already turned my stock dx hatch into a sleeper. started out as a 5 speed 1.5l 1988 honda civic dx hatch an i swapped over to a full b16a with tranny an everything for under $1500. twice as much power in a 1800lb car is incredible. all i have to say is jdm=wheeeeeee..going from 108hp to 160hp is a nice thing let me tell u. an thats still b4 mods. hey an u cant go wrong with all the aftermarket parts they have for b16a1 engines either. 1st gen si-r are the best deal although i still wish i put it in the slightly lighter crx. but hey i can carry 4 ppl now so. 8200 rpms here i come.
so 88 honda civic hatch - the best

yeah, for power to weight ratios civics are really good. although i like the looks of the 96+ hatch's better. maybe even the 92-95 ones. but personally i think an integra type-r is my favorite FF car. DC2, that is. DC5 is up there too. not sayin they're the best, just sayin they're my favorite.

for power to weight, i think the celica, if u really tune it well: it becomes one helluva car, 2nd would be an RSX, only problem is: it weighs more
and... btw... THATS MY AVATAR :P

I gotta give it up for the Acura integra Type-R, that's a hella sick machine stock that has an immesne amount of potential. sweet looks as well. With the split lights or the single unit.

Well, I said the Intrgea type-R earlier, but that's second place to my all time fave, the Volkwagen GTi 1.8T. Affrodable, responsive, tunable, styling all it's own. Yeah, it's "boxy" whatev, I think it's hot. It moves like no "box" is supposed to

I like the older Ford Probe GT/Mazda MX-6 GT. They were basically the first FWD cars that actaully handled good.

How old is it?

you honestly want to know my favorite FWD car from Japan? Well, for the first time ever in these posts, i'm going to say a hybrid is my favorite. Yes, the new toyota prius hybrid is my favorite japanese FWD. I was never one for civic and integra type Rs and such. I just never like FWD performance cars. The prius knows it's place in the world. It's transportation with a twist. Plus, the electric engine produces 240 ft lbs of torque, which is more than the integra R or civic type R.

Don't think so, I think it actaully was made in the USA. The Probe GT looked better then the Mazda IMO. They were made from 1988-1996(7).

are you suggesting that in any capacity the Prius is faster than the Type-R's? Cause that's what it sounds like to me. Anyway, the official website puts the electric motors torque at 295 lb-ft. and the net hp is 110. The electric engine puts out 67 hp and the fuel engine puts out 76 hp. something doesn't add up, so I wonder that the wheel hp is and what sort of twist this "torque monster" puts down.

And just for arguments sake, an '04 Civic Si beats the Prius hands down. Except maybe in style, which is always open to debate. It's less expensive, has four wheel independant suspension(prius only has front), has a manual tranny(prius is slush-boxed), comes stock with bigger wheels(even if they are only 16 inches), has better front seats, four wheel disk brakes(prius still has drums in the back), and I know that some people are all about dipslacement so I'll mention it has more than the Prius.

no no no no. I'm not saying the prius is more sporty than the integra type R or the civic Si. Not in anyway at all. If your in a comversation about fast FWD cars, the word Type R are always going to apear. But the Type R's are nothing really new if you think about it. Japan has always tried to makes smaller and faster FWD cars. But hybrid technology is new, and the toyota is the leader of the pack. They this hybrid thing down. Ok, so it still looks a little dorky and a tortise can get to 60 faster than it can, but it's extremly efficent, quiet, practical and better looking than the previous prius. It's alot more innovative than the type R's. Therefore, it's my favorite import FWD car. I told you i didn't like fast FWD cars.

also they have the civic hybrids from honda. they just put the same style hybrid engine in the body of a civic. pretty neat. my next car for sure is gonna be either a hybrid or a full on electric. save loads of money on gas.

My favorite FWD, hatchback car is the 2003 Toyota Celica GTS. with the action package (or whatever they call it) its a pretty kick ass ride. it comes with 180 HP and 130 lb-ft of torque. its a really sporty car and has styling to match it. The celica is the original, and in my opinion, still the best sport compact car.

i would still say my 88 honda hatch si-r has some hell of pull how often do u go up to 8,200 rpms in a 1800lb car an pull 160 horse before mods. it lil fast an 5 speed hooray an i own it wheee.an it would be considered a hybrid cause its not the stock engine but a race version, jdm power is great an i know all u guys say there is no replacement for displacement but i have a 1978 camaro z28 worked on w/ straight pipes an a good carb and its fun but gas cost to power the lil civic does it fine for me too.

technically there is no RSX-R. RSX is the american name for the DC5 integra. so the fastest RSX is the RSX-S. The DC-5 Integra has the Type-R version in japan and other places. so your guys' favorite would be the DC5 Integra Type-R.
1. i'm really kidding b/c it's no big deal, everyone knows what you're talking about.
2. just being nitpicky for clarification's sake. :)

I was going to say.... Yes, I would have to choose the RSX-S. If it was FWD it would be the MR2 next. Sleek, powerful, and mid-engine. Tons of capability.

FWD on a mid-engine car would be an interesting setup. This is kinda off topic, but are there anycars like that? I thought you want more weight on the driving wheels. Anyways I get the idear MR2 is a great car I like the 80s and early 90s ones.
