View Full Version : Looking for a Miura/advice

I've always had a crush on the Lambo Muira, ever since I can remember car-lust as a child she's been my goal.
I now have the means/patience to purchase one, which as anyone who's ever been in the same situation knows makes me a "mark". But I'm trying to contain my unbridled "lust" to make a purchase as free of naivete as possible.
So has anyone on the forum ever owned one or worked on them?(or seen a good example for sale?) I'm certainly not looking for a daily driver, I live in NYC so she'll be locked up for the winter and only brought out on sunny days for rocket trips to the twisties upstate.
I'm not sure whether to spend a premium on a restored late model in mint condition, or buy an earlier model in need of tlc/modification. Basically when it comes to Lambos I'm a novice, but willing to take the time to learn.
Any informed suggestions/advice would be appreciated.

I have never worked on a muira, but I do have experience with an espada. I had a boss who owned one, and I fell in love with it, mostly do to it being unique. I spent many hours under the bonnet of that car. I think , without looking to be sure, that they both run the GT4 engine. The six weber carbs are a pain to sinc. and the ignition system is not the best

sorry for the double post. I got booted offline, and I didn't get to finish. The distributor is a large primative thing with two coils basically operating like two old ford inline six engines that opperate in sinc. Feel free to PM me with any questions. If I cannot answer them, I know people who can
I have posted previously that I am interested in an espada. If you find a good one in your searches, for a reasonable price I would appreciate a "heads up". I will do the same for you if I find a Muira

I live in Poughkeepsie...
This must happen.
Anyways, now that I'm done drooling over the thought of a ride in one.
I'd suggest checking local exoctic repair shops. The amount of Muira's made is low, I'm talking, sub-900, I think it's about 720, give or take a couple. So, first off, before searching and finding one that's good, find out if it's even *worth* it. Find out if you'll end up bankrupting yourself over a car, hence why you should call a couple repair/ restoration shops. I'd also ask those shops for any info they'd have on owners who have done mid-seventies Italian exotic restorations. To get an idea of what you may get yourself into.
And to make this post more than just shooting from the hip:

A couple numbers to get ya' started...

Thanks Heretic- Espadas are even rarer than Muiras in the states (I think), but they are funky, have that "bread van" aesthetic going on. If I come across anything I'll be sure to give you a heads-up. I've actually never seen one in the NE, though I'm sure there's at least one tucked away in a garage in CT.
Ghalos- you bet, Poughkeepsie is on the way to the promised land of the Adirondaks and Quebec, so you're a welcome companion (none of my NYC friends will ride with me as it is- too *****!)
I've got a *spank* 3.0 csi (like in my avatar) stored in a garage in Hoboken, but my guy does German only. We're both ready for a challenge- I recently got divorced (thank god, she was a real spawn of satan) which means I'm no longer paying rent on a flat in London she used for business, I don't have kids and all the money I've been saving for a vacation house/kids is freed up (I never wanted that damn house anyway). So I'm willing, able- and to be honest my mechanic is also my friend and between the two of us I think we could at least duct tape the thing togther well enough for some thrills.
Really not any Muiras up here, seem to be mostly out west- which is probably good, I'm dubious to buy a 30yo Lambo which has ever touched a salted road. So the search goes on. Funny thing, I know some brothers in Brooklyn who....er...."import" Ferraris on the black market, if you know what I mean- but just Ferraris.
Looks like I'm going to need to take notes and fly to Ca/Az/Nv. In the meantime I'll keep dreaming of taking the PATH train to nirvana!

I've got the complete "Lambo Episode" of Top Gear, no voice-lag either, in case you want it to get your head in the game of looking and buying a Muira.
Completely forgot to mention. Check in magazines like The DuPont Registry, or Classic Car, to see what's availble and what isn't, furthermore, try and find out what is expected from a good, ok, and poor one when it comes to repairs. Specifically, bills.

I will be attending the lambo meerts on the west coast this year to look for a car. I would welcome the company if you want to fly out here, and go with me. I know the espadas look funky, but they definutely grow on you

Sure Ghalos, I'd appreciate you sending it- I'll send you my email in a PM.
I've actually already called Beverly Hills Classic regarding the restored '71 SV listed in DuPont Registry- beautifully restored car but astronomically priced, and I found it difficult haggling with the broker- it's all or nothing to him. But I'm keeping it on my radar, if it doesn't sell over the next couple months I may be able to talk him down to real life.

The Muira's, a good SV, in America, now, should go for about 150-180 grand...not knowing what this guy wanted obviously, I can't really comment other than pricing what I've found to be semi-accurate.

It is possible to get an Espada in the states, just not commonly.. and not in that (^) good of condition.
Oddly enough, I found a half-built Islero and Espada, but no Muira. Funny..
Actually, http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/8/8/82025988.htm
Make that two Espadas to no Muiras.
Good luck with your search, though. Its a fantastic car, as long as you know what you want/what you're getting into.

I do know where one is, but it is in rough condition. I want one of the early years, but would take whatever I could get for the right price

It was a standard NY Jew to LA Jew conversation- cordial while haggling intensely. Turns out Cohen (the broker) is hoping for some cash-intoxicated entertainment lawyer/actor to swoop in and immediately write a check. I can't blame him, he's got the buzz-words down for LA. I won't disclose his asking price but let's just say it's nowhere near what could be considered *current market*- he's hoping for a drunken ego-purchace. I'm betting he won't get it, even in BevHills. The Muira hasn't exactly gained icon status in CA while you can get a brand new Gallardo for not much more of a premium.
So we've got a bet on. He knows my number and interest. I'm betting he'll be calling sooner than later.
