IN Australia u like holden or ford. Ford australia that is. And the only aussie holden in the monaro. The rest are rebadged chevs or other gm cars.

as much i hate em it is a bargan. the Pontiac Gto here the Monaro CV8 is about $55,000
Aussie dollars and our dollar is about 78 us cents.
the 400hp monaro referd to as the HSV copue GTS is $99.000 aussie dollars while the
Ford falcon GT has 386hp and is $60.000 aussie dollars. and it has an extra 3 hp at the
wheels then the holden. Holden use a different system to messure engine power.

Sweet looking car, except it looks like it has saturn ion quad (redline) front lights, which in turn look like RSX headlights. Still the HP and performance still looks bad, on the other hand, its engine specs dont compete with the GTO...Whoos 385 HP...my bad...Sweet f'in ride man! :)

i like posing those questions so people actually read my forums  ... I was on www.skunk2.com and they claim to have a 95 Integra RS (fixed up) that does a 1/4 in just under 10 seconds. But i don't think it can be street legal...At least in Mass, or perhaps the US- Im not sure of those vehicle codes.

I know how to spell Massachusetts, im just too lazy to think about it!! What I can't wait for is the famously rumored Dodge Charger to come back out!! I mean its pretty great that Dodge has put Hemis into trucks because Charger enthusiasts could put a brandy new engine in their beloved pheonix we call a Charger R/T... However, I'm also not sure of the new Hemi specs. I need to check them out.

and this is one of the first monaros from the 60's.
If it wasnt 4 this youd have NO GTO
and the Monaro is going to be exported to the uk under the opal/vaxhall name
might be called the Calibra.

About $38,0000 or so.....well worth it.

wasn't the original GTO a 2 door Tempest LeMans with a V8?

That would mean that an old school monaro had nothing to do with the US having a GTO. And the only reason we have one off an Australian car now is because it was cheaper than designing a new model.

I thought it was...I haven't studied anything on it until today when I saw in-depths in Motor Trend's Buyer's Guide, and then I saw this guy just talking out the side of his neck spewing out highly-wrong info. I'd probably get one of these instead of the original over a NISMO supercharged 350Z or G35. But that's years down the road.

And for future reference, GM is; GMC, Chevrolet, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Cadillac, GMC, Saturn, Hummer, SAAB, and Opel/Vauxhall. Well, at least it owns all of these. Saab and Opel tend to be less......American companies, very much less like any of the other GM brands

From a performance standpoint this car is awesome. I just wish they could have made it look less like a Grand Prix. If you're just going to import a platform, why not create a whole new name? Using the name GTO, just doesn't really make any sense. GTO is a marketing ploy so that all those 60 year olds that had GTO's back in the day, are going to go out and buy them. Mid Life crisis kind of thing. The car is cool., don't get me wrong, but why call it a GTO. The original GTO was basically the birth of the musclecar era. Using an imported platform, and a commonly used small block V8 doesn't really live up to the original. Car companies have a tendency of doing diservice to classics. Just look at the Dodge Chrgers of the 80's. No, there was no 426 or 440. What you got was an Omni with a different appearance. What about the Chevy Nova? What the hell happened to that? Did you see those things? Ugghhhh......

First off I like its clean lines, and there will be a different more aggressive version comming out in '05. And as far as sharing a platform, the Monaro platform is a damn good one. The '64 GTO shared its platform with MANY other cars from GM, and its engine was in many a Pontiac of the day........I think calling it a GTO is great, hell it out performs every other GTO EVER made.

If it performs it deserves the name. Being that a real "muscle car" hasn't been around since the 96 Impala SS, this car may start something. Just like the original GTO. Maybe we'll have galaxies and falcons come from Ford now.

I like the idea of the Autocross version. they need to do this 'special package' deals with these already fast cars to really capture the muscle/performance car spirit
