The purpose of this thread is to create a resource with which to share your joy, or pain in owning a Mercedes Benz product, or to just give your general assessment of a Mercedes Benz vehicle you own.

well i have owned a mercedes in the past it was J reg 260E that makes it what 14-15 now? i spose. i have to say for it's age it was a really nice car..ran well..etc just like a mercedes should i spose.
until when it was about 12 it started playing up and things went wrong like the fuel pumps went and the centrel locking went. when we drove it to spain, crazy i know, it broke down in the middle of nowhere, and we got it to an official spanish merc garage and they still didn't know what had happened...got a couple of free mclaren hats though :p

My dad used to own a Mercedes-Benz E200. Though it's an old car, it rides well, audio systems not bad, and overall its just a great car! Too bad it was involved in an accident....*sobs*

My father owns an MB 190D 2.5l '87 and he says it's a good car!
I'm about to take the license and I have to admit is driving position is really good...maybe the car is slow related to modern cars but still cool enough in my opinion...:)
it has 90 hp and the top speed is 170 Km/h...:)
Overall grade is 7.5

My mom has a Mercedes Benz ML500.

Pros:
Interior really looks good and comfortable plus the navigation system is really sweet. It's has a V8 engine and is pretty fast.

Cons:
Maintenance costs way too much. One time the motor on the wiper broke, she spent over a thousand dollars to get it fixed. It also uses too much gas. 14 mpg on the city and 17 mpg on highway.

Yeah for some reason I like our LS430 better but all my friends reckon the S 65 AMG kills the LS.

Your friends don't have to reckon it kills the LS, it does. Actually, it flat out slaughters it.

LexusBoi
Jan 03, 2006, 7:05 AM
Well maybe with the engine but I reckon the LS is more luxurious!

Yeah, i guess you're right, the Lexus is ridiculously comfortable, heated/cooled/massaging seats. I mean, it just doesn't get much better than that. Unless the car came with a hot chick. That would be better.

They don't?!?
Guess all those car commercials are lying after all :(

As for mercedes. I drove quite a few.
My stephdad is a big merc fan. Having usually purchased a new one every 2 years he had quite a stack and usually gets those dealership options to test the latest models.

From what I experienced of teh small cars the have, starting with the mercedes 190:
The 190 is a very pleasant car to drive, feels smooth yet powerfull enough and drives just as comfy at 130mph as it does at 60.
The only thing that spoils this a bit is the powersteering which is very insensitive allowing the steeringwheel to wander a bit before actually steering the car.

It's younger cousing, the 1992 C class is not really similar to the luxury feeling the 190 does give.
It feels more like an average mid range family saloon with a somewhat more powerfull engine.
The powersteering problems are fixed and all components work well and without problems (even though we had to exchange the tacho several times and once lost a radiator cap)
It lacks the angle at which teh 190 front wheels were positioned and therefor is slightly more nervous at high speeds.

The follow up model C class (1995 I believe?) feels a lot better again. Not having the wheel angle restored but improvements in the chassis compensate for thsi as long as one does not try to drift the car.

The latest model of C class is the one I like least. It feels overall comfy and this is exactly the problem.
The driver does not get any response from the car. Sound is damped very effectively. Nearly noting from the outside world can be heard.
Same goes for suspension and steering feedback. None whatsoever.

Will continue with the list of E classes next, S classes afterwards, short excursion to the G class and Vito if desired and will shortly cover the SL class cars for the last 15 years as well after that.

That would be better.Mercedes SL has heated/cooled/massage seats. And then it has that weird button, where you can contol the seat position in hundreds of different angles. And best of all. - It is 1 of 2 good looking cars of the 21st century!

Or the GT500E's are registered as 2003 and 2005 cars... but. Yeah, it's still a '67 in the first place.

Hey the LS has heated/cooled seats aswell.

Tom Kristensen
Jan 03, 2006, 7:09 PM
Audi R8 has heated and massage seats too. The massage because of the vibrations at curbs, and the heat because you have to piss your pants, when you are 4 stints (3-4 hours) from the pit, and driving around drinking 4 litre of water, to avaoid dehydrating. It's true. But it has no cooling though, except the speedwind you will get at 330, at Mulsanne.

there is a 1980 450 SL sitting here in the garage. The seals are still good in the removeable hard top, the car is straight, and runs good. It is not my car, but the woman who ownes it is elderly and disabled, and has not driven it out of the driveway in ten years. I keep it up, and running. She has promised to leave it to me, but wants to own it until she dies. The good thing is that I get to treat it as my own. The bad thing is that it is painted yellow. It has a very nice ride for a sports car

On Mercedes, father used to have a Bengal Taxi which clocked 340,000 (count 'em) miles and used to score 12 mpg towing a trailer, round town, open road, up hills and basically everywhere else you could go. Never had a problem with it. Family friend has a 450 SEL which had a major gearbox leak which corroded every seal in it. Apart from that it is an incredibly comfortable car.
