I don't think it's really stereotyping as much as ignorance (racism) when it comes to Middle Easterners. Stereotypes are in place because over 50% of the population or group that you stereotype, fits that stereotype, and nobody honestly believes that over 50% of Middle Easterners are terrorists,thats just ridiculous.

What I'm trying to get at is stereotyping works in certain situations, it has it's up's and down's. After all, stereotyping is usually formed by a logical and realistic look at a group, not a biased one. Therefore it tends to be correct, more than 50% of the time, which in reality is helpful in certain situations. Stereotypes are categorized towards groups of people, who chose to be that way, or in that group. Racism is directed at someone who was born into their group that is categorized with racism. This is bad because we have free will, and as they say, "Don't judge a book by it's cover".

What's my point? Stereotyping shouldn't be looked upon as negatively as racism, and there's a huge difference between the two. However, modern society likes to believe that the two terms are interchangable.

You can even stereotype the time of day. Let's try and put them together: You're walking in some big city, 4 A.M, and a group of guys (doesnt matter what color) is walking towards you very quickly, they are all wearing baggy clothes, looking very "thugged" out. I think that some people on this fourm are blowing this out of proportion. Some things were said that may have been offensive, yes. But look at our current world and society today. It is filled with racism and discrimination. People need to understand that there will always be these differences in our world and need to just accept them, no matter how sad the truth may be. It is an everyday way of life to learn to live and deal with racism and descrimination. Now you may not think I am in any position to say this me being your average 20 yr old white american male, but if you think that then you are being somewhat racist and discriminatory right there. Hell, a recent example...do you think its fair that women and minorities get special consideration when applying to an engineering college and certain fields of study? No, but it happens and I deal.
I guess my whole rant with this post is that this **** goes on everyday, there are certain things in different cultures and race's pasts that many people are still bitter about, and hell they probably have the rite to be bitter because a lot of crazy **** happened. All Im saying is that only when people learn to accept that it is a part of everyones life no matter what race or religion only then will they be able to shrug it off and just go on with their life.
If if people feel that they have to leave because of a comment that was made, then no one can force them to stay if they feel that strongly about it. stuff was said before, for a long time, you wont believe how long on msn a(the few people i have off SCF) have been hating tabber and saying there should be something to do, but in reality, there was nothing that could be done, i wont abuse my mod powers, and we all know 1 person cannot change anything once he is under attack. The reason this has pushed me to breaking point is that despite numerous 'soft' warnings, he still proceded to push further, i was prepared to ignore him, which i did, for a long time i didnt even read his posts, but it went too far, and despite this being the internet, he hurt my friend, and for that i cant forgive or forget it, because at the end of the cable, we're all human, and some of us are just that bit more sensitive. I can't expect the majority of you to understand this, and Crossle, dont dig into it too much, i might be losing respect for this forum, but i'm not losing it of you, please dont push it :)

see all think that. basically like only 40% of albanians have the title "muslim" but they arent. Noone gives a crap about religion. and about 30% of these muslims go to Catholic or orthodox church. I have never seen ANY and I mean ANY albanians be muslim like real muslim. i respect islam because they are a religion they want to be, but I am not one.

History Lesson:

at the time of the turkish invasion, albania was very poor. everyone was looking for lands. The turks asked them to change religion and gave them lands. this was way back but now noone cares. and some info, almost 99% of the very north Albania, and about 99% of the very south of albania are real christians. the midle, where the turks foccused make up that muslim minorty.

I've been to macedonia and serbia many times and I see a lot of mosks build for the Albanians, especially in the western parts next to albania
And they are strongly commited to it

And my neighbours where albanians too, they always told me they where muslim but it's true that they never did anything that seemed to be muslim
