just get a big house with a huge garden and driveway, and if u have enough money to buy loads of cars u will more than likely have enough to insure them also

If you have a dozen cars, you do not drive a lot of them. Like jay lenno for example. He has a kazillion cars. He has not insured all of them because he just keeps them for the heck of it. I am sure about 3-5 cars in a 12 car garage, are basically never driven so they do not need insurance. But like they said above, if you have enough money to buy 12 cars, I bet you they are not all civics, or corollas, so you spent quite some money. So you probably have the money to insure them...

As for Storing, you can rent garages, or you can make your own in the back yard/basement. I have see someone who opened up his basement on the side of the house, made a drievway, slanting down to the basement, and just puts his cars in his basement. he has 4 at the moment I think, plus his wife's navigator...

His collection includes, a transam, a denali, a 2005 mustang gt, Silverado, and his wifes navigator... Now speaking of rich. COUGH!!!

I am all but certain that Jay Leno has insurance on all of his cars. I thought it was the law to have at least basic insurance but I might be wrong, and no doubt in my mind that he has theft insurance on all of them.

It is the law, only if you are driving the car. There are people who have old classics parked in front of their house, but it never moves. I guarantee you 200% that they do not haev insurance no it. Also how will the police find out I have a 1980s Mustang parked in my garage? ( if it was the case, but its not. )

My neighbor has upwords of 20 cars. He has a 3 car garage. 3 of his cars (Porsche, Murcielago, Mercedes) are in the garages, and he keeps two of his Hummer H2's in the driveway. The rest are stored at an offsite garage.
Another big car guy in Austin has about 30+ cars. He has an offsite garage (which stores upwards of 20) and something like a 16 car garage at his house.

Also, insurance per car goes down with the more cars you add to the plan. (For example, it could be like $3k per car for 1-2, $2.5k per car for 3-5, $2k per car for 6+)

We've never owned more than 5 cars. Our Garage has 5 car stalls, but you can squeeze in 7 cars. (Our two double-doors are 3ft wider than spec)

It all depends where you live

here in europe it's expensive as hell to have fast cars
Insurances here are crazy

for a good sports car you pay easily 12.000 € per year and that's only one car!!

Insurance doens't go down here with the more cars you have, it always goes up and up

that's the reason why everybody in western europe drive cars with small engines, they can't pay taxes and insurance

ugh lets see my friend, her father owns a mercedes, bentley, aston martin (mighta sold it) and a escalade. she has a 3 car garage with a lift in one of the space and big driveway. ugh if you have a collection of cars like 15 or more people usually get a warehouse. and my other friend who has like i think 13 cars his father just built a side garage wich i think stores 7 cars.

I have a 1989 Iroc(mine, forever babied), a 1991 LSC Special Edition(mine, selling), a 1996 Camry(who feels like owning it, might sell), A 1995 Ford Ranger(dads, work truck), A 2005 Chevy Avalanche(mothers, daily driver), and a 2000 Durango(I use it, daily driver), 1950 Fleetline(mine, project), Some construction equipment, among other things, I am expecting to have a C3 vette(sister) with in the next few years and I might pick up a 64 Corvair Convertible to use @ university(mostly because if someone steals it; its no big loss)...

Due to my abililty to drive cars through brickwalls, and my Iroc costing me 9K a year to insure. I no longer insure my vehicles and drive that Durango. I store the Iroc in a garage covered and on jackstands. The Lincoln and camry sit next to my driveway, the Ranger finds a spot, The Avalanche and Durango are in the driveway, the Fleetline was left in the middle of the woods because someone decided to get drink and hack at it with a brick on me. Which broke the frame, busted all the glass, busted the hood, roof, trunk, snapped off the door handles, dented everything, so I am going to strip it for the usuable parts because the car is beyond repair.

As an insurance agent I can tell you, you're exactly correct. Most likely what a guy like Jay Leno would have is a fleet liability policy that will cover his liability on any car he owns. The rates obviously take into account the fact that he can only be driving one at a time, or a few if he lends them to friends. Therefore, it doesn't cost as much to insure his 80+ cars for liability as it would if you 80+ cars with 80+ different drivers. It actually costs a small fraction of that. His physical damage coverage, (collision, theft, fire) is likely covered by a specialty insurer like Lloyd's of London. He may not carry collision on the ones he doesn't drive, but due to their value, I'm sure he has at least fire/theft on all of them. For storage of his motorcycles and cars, he has a warehouse/garage that occupies 5 buildings of various sizes at the Burbank, (California), airport. He probably also maintains a garage property/liability policy for this location.
