Here in America, there is simply the Type-S. In Japan(maybe other markets too) there is the Type-R and Type-S. The R version is more performance tuned and oriented(and I'm guessing more expensive too) I think so! Someone tell me if I just making things up, I'm not really sure

The Type-R is not for racing, it's street legal too. Take the Civic Type-R, for instance.

I don't know about the NSX but there is a street legal Civic Type-R. 2lt, 200PS.
It's a normal Civic but with a lot more powerful engine, stiffer suspensions etc.

This is what i read that's different about the Integra Type R from the RSX Type S:
forged aluminum front lower control arms
bushings
brembo brakes
ECU
lower weight chassis
aluminum hood
220hp 152lb/ft torque
smoother intake ported by very fine grains of sand
smoother exhaust ported by very fine grains of sand
Tri-Y header
Catalytic converter is further back because of this header
Pistons with a chromoly skirt and higher compression of 11.5:1
different transmission ratios with 4th 5th and 6th being shorter
Shorter final drive ratio being 4.764:1
Helical-gear limited slip differntial
Light weight chromoly flywheel
Chassis bracing... the Type R has additional structural baces strewn throughout the chassis making the chassis stiffer
Red Recaro seats
Door panels w/ red cloth inserts
Momo Steering wheel
I read this in Honda Tuning in the October/November 2002 issue.

very cool.thank you for the clarification! I knew the Type R was the better of the two  I can't wait for the Civic Type R to come to the U.S. :!: Kinda' wish all of the other Type R's would be here as well, like the RSX, Accord, and older Integra ones. Guess I'd have to import if I ever wanted one other than the Civic!

the rsx type S and the integ. type R are two completely different cars. the RSX is the next gen. integra which handles much better and doest accelerate quicker than the type R. As far as the civic type R goes that isnt even sold in the US but hopefully it will be in the near future :D

seems like this last 99 si guy got things clarified....the RSX is the new integra here in America....they like to confuse us...in japan its still called the integra....Type R's are street legal of course, theyre just like the top of the line for that model....

I wish I could just pick up the phone, call Japan and order an Integra Type-R.....stupid emission laws!!

Umm.. it's actually quite easy to get an Integra Type R. A quick search on Ebay and there about 10 alone for sale there. There pretty cheap too, you can get a 2K type R with roughly 25K miles for like 10 grand. Possibly your thinking about Civic type R....

Oh, sorry, I really meant the new one! The Japanese Spec one! I'd like Integra for the name of my car rahter than RSX, thats another reason :-p
RSX Type-R seems kinda repetitive, all those R's

Go for the civic type-R... Probably best Honda ever, except the NSX.

To the ppl that still didn't get it: The integra i was refering to is the JDM counter part to the USDM RSX. We call it the RSX, the japanese still call it integra. Oh, and 99 si trbo the integra i was talking about is virtually the same car as the RSX, except the differences that I, being a knowledgable guy, have already listed. I dislike it when ppl try to make me look like i don't know what I'm talkin' 'bout. I guess you caught me in a bad mood.

Nov 26, 2003, 5:59 PM
OK, I think that everyone is a little confused about what were all talking about. When I said that the RSX was a compeltely different car than the Integ. type R i was referring only to the US models, not overseas. In the other post I was dealing with overseas model changes.

Listen, 99 si trbo, lost gamer obviously knew what he was talkin' 'bout when he asked if the RSX (USDM DC5) Type-S was the same as Integra (JDM DC5) Type R. You thought we were talkin' 'bout the RSX (USDM DC5) Type-S and the old USDM Integra Type R. Admit it, (at least to yourself).
Fernando
Nov 28, 2003, 2:47 AM
Either that or admit you didn't know that this wasn't a US model only subject.
Fernando
Nov 28, 2003, 2:49 AM
Personally, I don't even think you knew that they stil call it the Integra in Japan until you came across this subject.

The JDM RSX/Integra gets 20 more hp and I don't know how much more torque. Another reason why I gotta move out of this place! I wonder how much more it costs to swap....that way I don't have to move

So, there an Integra Type-S? There's something I didn't know.

Jan 23, 2004, 6:25 PM
Well in Australia we have the regular Honda Integra and then the Type-R.
www.honda.com.au has details.
I can't believe some of the ignorant opinions on here - people who don't know the facts shouldn't try to improvise, just stay quiet and learn.
Saying there's no such thing as a new Integra Type-R. Sheesh.
By the way, I'm not so sure what the big deal is, in regard to 4 cylinder sports cars I don't see why the Integra Type-R is so venerated - I'd take a Nissan Silvia Spec-R or even better a Subaru WRX STi ClubSpec C or Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII any day of the week over an Integra...

I've been doing research on the RSX-s and the Integra Type R, and yeah they are:
RSX-s :
HP: 200 hp
TQ: 143 ftp
Integra Type R:
HP:220
TQ: 153(?) or 163(i might be thinking the h22a engine, prelude)

In the American market the B18C5 was only good for 200hp. I want to say the torque figure is around 150ft-lbs. Dont recall exactly though.

the DC2 type R had like 205 hp in the jdm spec. the DC5 type R has 220. and the RSX-S has 200. and yeah, the DC2 american B18C5 had like 195-200.

I assume you are talking about the integra type r (sold in the us in 98,97,00,and 01 i believe) and the RSX-S currently sold in the u.s. they are two completely diffrent engines, and fyi: the rsx-s has 210bhp and the type r had 195bhp

I know there is a 'teg-R, but there will never be a RSX-R (yes, I know they would be the same car, but it's not coming to the u.s. market and is not being sold under the acura name, so yes, there will never be a vehicle called the rsx-r)

Yep.. unless that integra type R above comes here, there will be no RSX-R.

the new integra type r and the new rsx type s look the same to me. the type r engine produces 220hp @ 8,000rpm and 206nm @ 7,000rpm (i have no idea how to convert nm to lb/ft of torque), the type s engine produces 210hp @7,800rpm and 143lb/ft of torque @ 7,000rpm. i don't know what is the weight of this cars or what is the difference in their interiors, i think the gear ratios are different though. well i would say that we have something really close to the type r and, performance wise, i don't think you are going to notice a big difference driving them on the street, maybe in the track but it's not going to be a huge one. if you don't like the rsx type s badge change it for one that say integra type r. the integra type r vtec, prelude vtec, and del sol vtec(not to be confused with the si) have the same vtec used in the nsx, nsxprime.com, so not to look down the civic type r but it's not the ultimate 4 cylinder vtec, the vtec used in the civic focuses more on fuel economy. and to answer the dude from australia that would take a evo, sti, or skyline over a type r, he is totally right, stock this cars would kill the type r, but the type r is a lot cheaper, with the money you save you can modify your type r add a turbo or twin turbo and this type r would compete with the evo and sti, not the skyline it has to more cylinders and the skyline is in another category and shouldn't be compare with the type r. type r super car for the poor man. actually it's the srt-4 but we talking about the type r. hopefully i'm not too late.

clementzzz
Jan 28, 2005, 4:48 PM
"no, is not the same," bibittes i would love to hear your reasons. plus i didn't say the were the same car; i just said their pretty close. and i take back what i said about vtec engines if modified can compete with evos, and stis; the vtec system that makes this car amazing, it's its own worst anemy when it comes to heavy modifications. actually i'm not sure because the vtec in nsx is the same one in the integra type r; i've seen and read about nsx that have 800+hp, so if it's the same vtec it should have the same capabilities, right?
