The Volvo C30 is a hatchback which you left off your list. Also, the V50 is still being offered...so lay off the wacky tobaccy.
BMW also still makes the 335d sedan, which is a nonVW diesel

Also, why scoff at trucks? They are quite nice for hauling things from one place to another. Good luck towing a track car to VIR in a Mazda2. Trucks and even SUV's have their place.

Also, The C30 is a hatch, not a wagon...and the Focus is a better car despite the Volvo being ten trillion times sexier...than just about anything near it's price.

The V50 is on the market for maybe a few more months. The V70 was the good stuff, and it's gone.

A good truck is the Ford F150. A good-ish SUV is the Acura MDX.

LOVE Mahindra SUVs.

If I could import one in the States, I'd do it in a heartbeat. If they sold those here, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

We used a similar model, the Mahindra Scorpio, when we were on vacation in India back in 2005. It was 2.2L turbo diesel with a 5 speed manual, and 4 wheel drive. The thing was an absolute TANK. Driving through small streams; driving on a rocky, dirt road in small villages; driving through pothole filled, bad roads; it was such a beast.

There were 9 of us inside and we had some luggage tied on the roof rack.

The thing STILL hauled ass effortlessly, and STILL got 13 km per litre (which is 31+ MPG of the calculation is correct) cruising at 130 KPH on the highway.

Very badass SUV.

Also, I've been a big believer of turbo diesels ever since.
