That 360 pay and drive is absolutely "dirt" cheap for a Ferrari! Did you go on it it or was that your father?

You took some magnificent pics of the country I badly want to live in/visit. It seems as if there is a yacht for everyone and the cars are just spectacular. The architecture and landscape is almost second to none and it just very beautiful. It is fun to see that even in a country so rich, a Lamborghini can stop people and leave them awestruck.

Thanks for sharing.

arrrrg, the rock haunts me again. see the green inflatable thing on the left hand side.

it's called the rock, and we had one of those at the pool I lifeguarded at, and it was a freaking nightmare. the kids always want to play king of the hill and what not on it, or dive under it, or do flips and stuff down the slide, and it'd be a helluvalot of fun if I could let them, but I couldn't, rules were one kid per climbing side at a time, and one kid down the slide at a time, and on your ass facing forward. totally alienated what could have been awesome into no fun at all due to having to listen to my boss. I understand the safety issues, but for christs sake's, should we sacrifice all our fun for the sake of safety?

it's like ol' ben franklin said, The man who trades freedom for security does not deserve nor will he ever receive either.

just substitute fun for freedom, and safety for security. same deal

ANYWAYS, cheeky, looks like you had a whole lot of fun, there's some nice cars there. I'm truly jealous.

good thing I get to see the world in the navy, otherwise I'd have to steal your photos and pretend I've been to all these places to all my myspace freinds I've never met.

j/k, all my friends on myspace I have met. the issue is remembering the meeting, ;)

Sure is! You pay almost three times the price in Bahrain to do 3 hours on a the track (the only one we have actually :p), that's 1/2 a track day, in your own car. not to mention the cost of maintenance and servicing your car needs after driving for 3 hours when it's 50 degrees Celsius with 90% humidity.

That's weird.. you went on an almost identical trip that I went on in '07. Cannes, Monaco, and St. Tropez. They're really beautiful places, aren't they?

Did you get a chance to drive along the coast towards San Rafael or take the train to Monaco? I've never enjoyed traveling somewhere more.. 99% of the ride you can see the ocean.

Nah, just Dad, you can only do about 35mph, and aren't allowed a to make any noise! These guys have 3 Ferraris, and they must make a LOT of money out of it, people have been known to queue for 4/5 hours!

Wow, I had no idea you were coming down here, when was this? Did you enjoy it? What did you get up to? Did you hit the town a bit? Stayed long? (sorry bout the questions... I just love to hear about what foreigners have to say about here!)

It's funny seeing pictures of all this, which is basically my doorstep. I was walking along the port just this morning... in fact I was driving on it 15 minutes ago!

Also, the guys with the Ferrari Tours, who would have thought? They started out with one 360, now they have an army of them (I think more than 3, maybe it's 3 per station (there are 3 stations)). They make ****-loads, the cars are running all day. Genius.

And the train ride, very nice indeed, running just above all the beaches from here to St. Tropez! Was on it on Wednsday to get to St. Tropez (which is also a beautiful place, but I feel it's so built for tourists and mega rich people that it lacks soul, Monaco thankfully has stayed a bit different, because the town actually lives and works all year round)

You should have let me know you were making way here! I could have given you tips on some nice places!

you better not be in the UK when i'm in NY pal !!!!

I'm in New York probably about end of March/ start of April, most likely end of March. I'm in the process of working out the timings at the moment for how long it will take to reach places along the route so I can plan ahead.

I will be back in the UK from the start of May though, my 90 day tourist/transit visa limit will have expired then!

I will be in San Francisco and Los Angeles for 14 days from 21st Sept next month... too bad its the wrong side from NY!

The load of flats you see in the background, closest to the Lady Moura are part of the Fairmont Hotel (ex-Lowes Hotel), the one the F1 cars drive under during the GP. Just above the hotel you see the back of the Casino.

Behind that, starting with the tall orange building (called Columbia) and going all along the sea front is the most expensive "neighborhood" of Monaco. You're not allowed to buy 90% of those flats, you're obliged to rent.

Interesting - everytime with the exception just once so far, Lady Moura has always been in Monaco whenever I am there, which is at least once, sometimes twice a year... guess we must just go at the same times :D

Lady Moura spends about half a year here (maybe a bit more these times) and half a year in Mallorca (which I believe is where the shipyard is if they ever take it out of the water).

The boat you see next to Lady Mora, Atlantis II, is always here, can you imagine, it never goes out! I think it belongs to some Greek guy. It's become just part of the scenery now...

Other than that, if/when i make it over there I've got a few people on here I'd like to hang out with, get food with, go to some track with a rental, and make my own hajj to the McLaren F1 display car ya'll have there.

^^^ just get yourself to Mercedes Benz world with SubKid, you'll enjoy it, a guy from work done about 4 or 5 laps around there in a CLS63 and took the new SL63 down the wet straight, but that's because it was an AMG training day. You still can get a good blast around it in a C-Class Sport.

And if you come north to the border I might be able to get you a new SL500 for a day. :D

WoW!

I would love to just see those killer residencials. It just boggles my mind that there is that much dough out there.

I grew up simple, I think I posted that somewhere. When I was a kid, the irony was that I lived in a 1 million dollar home, that is in 1960's dollars for those of you that care to do the math inflation wise. The home did not belong to us, but rather my grandparents that regularly mentioned that the home was NOT ours, rather a place for us to live. My extended family was not very nice, rather some rich arseholes.

Anyway, I still love to see extravagent homes and just view them. Just out of curiosity. Thanks for the update and the clarification.

I've been in a bunch of flats along there... some of my best friends live there. Many are not so extravagantly luxurious as you may think. Lots of them are very frumpy to be honest, but they have a fantastic view.

What's nice here, and in the Cote d'Azur in general, is that you can walk into some shabby looking house from the outside but it'll be beautiful on the inside.

For example up on the Rock...

http://www.francemonthly.com/n/1004/images/monte-carlo-1.jpg

http://www.yannarthusbertrand.com/yann2/Sortie_HTML/img/large/366/11-18-RVB.jpg

... they are all old buildings, very cute, but old from the outside. Yet inside many have been renovated and now lie some of the most stunning flats in the world.

If you want REAL incredible property though, you go 10 minutes down the coast to Cap Ferrat and Cap d'Antibes. There are located the most expensive houses in the world. In fact, just a few weeks ago the world record was (apparently) beaten, a Russian bought Safra's old house for MORE than 500 million EUROS. You should the see the house though . I guess it's ok when all your neighbors are celebrities though...

EDIT: Oh here's a picture of it!

The house looks very good, but 500 mil??? thats too much, a lot too much. I would consider it as wasting money. There are a lot of places in the world there everything is overpriced and as a rational (sometimes) human i just can not see the real reason to throw away that amount of money.

Those other photos, especially these too on the top they look great :) i really really like this kind of architecture :)

An ex-"fiance" of mine went to college outside of Boston over here and along the main road leading to her campus was the richest "hamlet" in the Eastern US.

To give an idea of *how* rich, there was a mansion with a guest house for the main butler.

...It was a guest house. That cost 12 million US dollars.

...wtf.
