Hey, im 15, going to be 16 soon and im looking for a car to buy and im not sure what to get. I have about 3000 currently but will have about 7000 in about a month but would perfer to not spend anymore than 5 grand because i need money for insurance/gas. Gas mileage isint to big of a deal for me, but i would like to get something for looks and performance but mainly looks since i dont have much to spend. I was looking at some firebirds. What would be some good cars/years and what should i look for? (i dont care if its manual or automatic) Thanks.

Well, you seriously can't go wrong with Honda. They make good cars that get good mileage and last a long time. They look pretty good too.
Just stay away from Acura Integra's and realize that anything with two doors is going to be WAY MORE on insurance than MOST anything with 4 doors.

1992-1996 Honda Prelude
1992-2000 Honda Civic
5th gen Honda Accord Coupe
1989-1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse
3rd and 4th gen Ford Mustang V6
3rd and 4th gen Chevy Camaro V6
1995-2000 Dodge Avenger
1994-2001 Acura Integra
3rd gen Chevy Cavalier
1996-2001 Hyundai Tiburon
6th gen Pontiac GP Coupe
5th and 6th gen Toyota Celica
All cars above aren't current generations. As in you won't find any newer than the year 2000 for 5k. (You hypothetically could, but then you would have 150k+ miles on them)
Remember, you don't need performance. Good luck.

Well, mileage really differs depending on the type of car you get. Personally I would VERY cautious about any car over 150K miles. Even Honda's. However, if you can find one of those cars on Clutches list...except for the Eclipse which is horribly unreliable and breaks down all the time and has TONS of mechanical problems, or the Integra which is really expensive to insure (Acura is a luxery brand, and Integra is a sports car, and Acura Integra's are usually driven by retarded teenagers who race everywhere and get in wrecks all the time)...see if you can get one with LESS than 100K miles on it.
Just make sure you drive the car BEFORE you buy it, and if it's a manual transmission, find out when the clutch was last replaced. If they say never, then realize that you're going to need to get the clutch replaced probably fairly shortly.

For your budget, you will have a hard time finding something with lower miles so you will have to settle with high mileage. Having said that, high mileage isn't always bad, it depends on how the car was driven and its previous owners. I would try to find something between 90 and 120k miles. Most of the engines on that list can go upwards of 160k miles without any major overhauls, but you want to find something as low as possible in terms of mileage.
I would also recommend you find an automatic car so that you don't have to worry about learning to drive stick. It can get overwhelming if you are a new driver. You can always pick up a manual later on in your life.

Dont worry about getting a car right now. Your 15, so im assuming you dont have a licence yet, and if you do, its probabily a learner's licence.
Wait until you are close to getting a proper licence, then choose a car. You can look up cars in different site, but chances are, your parents arent going to buy anything until a year or so later.

lol no i have century tel 3.0 but my internet is screwy right now sorry about that. And im 15 and get my license in about 3 months, so i am close to it. And IM paying for my car, insurance, and gas. NOT my parents. And I was looking in wheels and deals and theres this chevorlet camaro that i really like the looks of. Heres the exact description: 1988 CHEVEROLET CAMARO IROC-Z. Good Body, V8, TPI, Auto, Less Than 25K Miles On Motor, Runs & Drives Great. $2,000 Neg. What do u think about that? What questions should i ask them if i call them?

How many miles are on the car? Has it ever been in a wreck? When was the car last serviced? Has it ever needed any major repairs done? Why did you replace the motor? Who replaced the motor? What kind of motor is in it currently? Would there be any way I could come test drive it? Can I get a CARFAX report on the car?
Honestly, 2000 is a bit cheap for a decent 88 IROC. Yeah, it's pretty much the worst Camaro ever...but it's still damn cool looking, so ones that ACTUALLY run well and arn't falling apart are USUALLY a bit more expensive, so be mindful of that.

Hold on there Jethro!
First off let me start by saying you are 15. At this point, anything with 4 wheels and a running engine should do. You aren't John Force or Michael Schumacher. All you really need is a decent looking, dependable mode of transport to get you through school.
Pickyness is not a virtue. Body kits are turn offs. Don't start thinking about customizing your car until you get your hands on it. Don't believe the Fast and Furious hype. Grandma drives a Buick, no Buicks were mentioned at all.

A $2000 IROC Camaro will make you a broke pedestrian faster than any mentioned so far. When you buy an old sporty/performance car; some previous sport has used up more of the car.
My company '96 Accord has 318000 miles on it; 110K in 2 years. It's last oil change was over 25K ago. It uses 1 qt +/- weekly (1000-1100 miles) It got 28.6 m/g the last tank. Don't even talk to me about an Avenger, Cavalier, or Poncho GP!
i would say a Mustang around the year 1998, cuz thats what i just got, and that dude is gunna deliver it in 3 days, man i cant wait for my 2nd car, btw im 17, my 1st car was a chrysler van, and since you are 15 and soon you are gunna be needing a car with a big back seat(if you gota a girl) but since i got over that phase i got a mustang, and i dont think you should get a sporty car as your 1st one, you will want to drive like an idiot(i did with my mom's BMW 5501, w/ v8) so get a minivan, you will get laughed at in high school, so get some spinners for it, and a nice stereo. youll live longer in the long run.

I can't wait for my 2nd car. By the way, I'm 17. My first car was a Chrysler van & since you are 15 & soon you will be needing a car with a big back seat. Cause I think that a back seat is the best place to show a girl how much class I have. I got over that phase & got a Mustang.
I recommend not purchasing a sporty car as your first car. You'll want to drive like I do. An idiot.
So I recommend a minivan, you will get laughed at in high school if you get spinners for it & a nice stereo. You will not live longer.

lol self ownage. M16, learn to type properly & use full stops. Not everyone here understands or speaks English perfectly.
And Clutch is on the money. Your first car @ 15yrs of age shouldn't be of any concern. Aslong as it gets you from a to b & is reliable, functional & isn't about to fall apart, it'll do.

Hell, I'm 26 and that is all I can ask of a car.

A couple things here really don't add up in your favor, it's your first car, it is an old American car not exactly known for reliability, you are paying for insurance (two door sports car will be pricey), and it will not get good gas mileage. As for the ad itself, "Less than 25k on Motor" means it is not the original motor, which makes me believe this was a car driven hard, and unless the previous owner knew what he was doing and took care of it, I think the mechanicals will be a mess.
If you have a garage and want to spend some time fixing up the car, changing some parts, going to the drag strip, etc. I wouldn't buy it. It might be a fun car, but you need to have time and money to devote to it.
Your best bet for right now would be something cheap, reliable, and good on gas -- Honda Civic. I hate Civics, but when you can get 40 mpg, modify it a little to return slightly better horsepower (don't go overboard, please), and if you need parts you can raid a local junkyard, there isn't a better deal.
