I said I would post some of the pics! I have already mentioned in another topic that I was working with Lotus and with some of the most important people in the car world at this moment in time. so rather than ramble about that, here is the event!!! :

I'm afraid I have no photo's of the racing becauase I only got to see the start of the classic F1 race from the pit lane and the last race of the day on Sunday from the roof of the BRDC [British Racing Drivers Club - one of the most reputable and famous motor clubs in the world] building (I had VIP guest access for Sunday as my boss is on the board of directors for them) :)

These pics are just cars that I saw around the paddocks, i'm afraid there was no artistic photography used!!

Basically of the pictures below pretty much everything shown was raced, if it has a number on the car somewhere then it was raced in one of the many race classes! Some spectacular sounds from these cars, and a few rather expensive crashes! I didnt get pics of the smashed cars, but some of them are going to be VERY expensive to fix!

There were just so many cars and I did not get much time away from the Lotus display, they had F1 cars, LeMans cars, classic Aston racing, 60's GT race cars and so much more...

This was an old racing Europa, currently has a Shelby tuned Ford V8 engine in it... :)

Lotus APX - it looks **** in the pics but its stunning in real life, we had 10 people wanted to buy it over the weekend, thats 7 more than I got confirmed orders for the Evora over the 3 days!!!

http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/cc202/sagaris400/2008%20Silverstone%20Classic/DSC05506.jpg

The Evora clay model that they worked on to produce the final desing, was quite cool having that there seeing as how it is literally worth several million £'s (many million $'s). It was kept in a climate controlled room to prevent the clay deforming in the extreme heat we had at the weekend.

All of those pictures are great! It looks like you had a blast. But what in the world is a Lotus APX? I have never heard of it before on any level.

its a 5+2 (i.e 7 seat) concept car used to demonstrate the VVA chassis technology, which allows the engine to be front mounted, mid mounted or rear mounted in the car. This was to show the chassis used with a Front Engined 300bhp 4WD set-up. The engine was a Lotus built unit too.

It is the same chassis technology used in the Evora and next generation Esprit.

Looks really cool in real life, I was lucky enough to be able to go inside it (only a very few people have sat in this car), its just so cool for what it is. If i needed a sensible car this would be it, plus with 300bhp on tap, it will be good fun to drive too, since its made by Lotus it will handle great as well! It sits very low, it is no taller than a regular family car, much smaller than any SUV or corssover model on the market.

What a set of cars... absolutely beautiful. I recognize a lot of them from Goodwood !

I think I'd kill for that old Shelby Mustang or one of those Astons...

Parading your Aston adventures around eh? ;)

I don't know about you, but the unfaired headlight DB4 is amazingly good looking. Most of you know the DB4 as this:

http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/image/DB4%20GT.JPG

But in fact, only a few DB4s ever looked like that. The mainstay for the DB4 range looked like this:

Which, in my opinion looks even better :)

eh? what are you talking about??

the bottom is the style that usually drives around here, strangely off topic in an on topic sort of way...

Nice one Tom,

All looks good, as I said I didn't have a camera on the day:(

Should have popped over and said hello, didn't want you missing out on a potential sale though eh?!

Some real rare motors were on show, the Silk Cut Jaguar XJR-12 was simply awesome, as was the Porsche 962. Shame you missed out on the pretty much non-stop racing action, the 1970's GP cars were lapping past us with a Hawker Hunter just above them, it was epic!

Will definately be going next year.

Chris.

Yeah I'm saying the bottom style is the most common, but in my opinion, the best looking.

Chris, you shuold have said hi, I was there all the time so you coulda come back at some point :p

The last bit of the race I saw had the 2 silk cut Jag's, car 3 and 4 in it, the one with the exposed rear wheel (i.e. not covered) sounded awesome!

Yeah I'm saying the bottom style is the most common, but in my opinion, the best looking.

with what relevance to the rest of the topic though?
And the red one I posted had Zagato badges in a couple of places.

I know I shoulda Tom, but what a twat I'd have felt going up to some random and asking "Is your name Tom?!" And imagine getting asked that yourself, especially if I asked the wrong person.

I nearly bought one of those green and yellow Lotus Polo shirts, any idea where I can buy one online?

The red Aston DB4 was indeed a very rare Zagato GT, we (me and my father) spent a while staring at that one! There was a funny story about the DB4 Saloon parked next to it; apparently in the 60's-70's it was sold in the 'States to someone who had the boot converted to transport "Columbian Packages" discretely (ie. it has a hidden compartment) but was later imported (re-imported?!) to the UK where a DJ bought it and used it to transport his disco equipment - strange choice I thought, don't most make do with a Transit?!

Chris.

Well the topic was about pictures at silverstone, and the DB4 was one of the cars in the pictures ;)

Let's just say that towards the end of the pics, I became such a whiny little brat! lol

That Europa Race Version is gorgeously raw looking, if that make sense.

SO JEALOUS!

There were some female Lotus staff by the shop area, you could have asked one of them in full security you weren't going to make a fool of yourself! :p

And if you go to www.lotuscarswebstore.co.uk you can buy all the merchandising

Edit: and AM138, the point I was getting at was, yes there were pics posted, but it seemed a big sidetrack to randomly start talking about the car in different build types, yes it was valid information, but in a thread that wasnt about, or being focused on the DB4 :p
