A letter to the Editor in last Sunday's Everett Herald.(Washington state) This is the kind of guy I want to flip off when I'm passing him on the right lane on I-5.

We should move over for speeders?

I drive I-5 every day and sometimes several times a day. I usually travel from exit 215 to U.S. 2 and often further south. I witness so many traffic violations each day it has become commonplace.

In the interest of my own safety, I always put myself in the left lane and adjust my speed to about five miles over the posted limit, moving to the right about one to two miles before my exit. This is the way the super highway was designed to be driven.

I keep hearing how you must not impede traffic in the left lane. So how is it I am impeding traffic if I am already exceeding the posted limit? Is it my job to aid and abet drivers who want to speed excessively? Am I going to get a ticket in the left lane when I am at or a little over the limit? Are you telling me I need to move over so some moron can do 75 mph in a 60 mph zone?

The problem is we do not have enough troopers on the highway to make it safe to travel, so I make it as safe for myself as I can. We need more enforcement and higher fines for tailgating and reckless driving. Most accidents happen when someone crosses a line improperly, so staying in one lane as long as possible is the safest way to get where you're going.

The speed limit for cars should not be the same as for trucks; this just helps clog up the highway. I think we need signs posted that the Canadians can understand also.

This guy is an a-hole. You are not suppose to just cruise in the left lane anyway, as it is meant for passing. Also, if a police officer IS behind him, and he's just cruising at 5 over the limit, there is a good chance he WILL get a ticket.

Officers don't like turning on their lights unless they really need to get somewhere in a hurry and it's an emergency. However, they full well know that those lights cause traffic to slow way down. So if they don't have to, they'd rather not. However if they get stuck behind some self rightous prick who won't move over, then they get pissed off, and everyone suffers.

Also, I thought in Washington the speed limit on I-5 was 70 or 80?

the speed limits around here are too low, the drivers are too retarded, and the distances between major cities/work places too great. it makes traffic a hardcore *****, and this ninni pants little girl needs to pull to the right and let the speeders pass him, cause that why they dont get impatient and do stupid **** to get AROUND this dumbass so they can get on their way safely between the lines of one lane instead of manuerving between several lanes and posing a far greater threat that way they'll be LESS cars on the road when the traffic eventually comes to a stand still from people being stupid drivers, or people gawking at an accident caused from some idiot trying to get around some idiot going the speed limit.

Ohhhh, I did a little searching on the intertubes I found that it used to be 70 mph in some areas. But that was back in like 2005 when they changed it to 60.

I remember this because I had to drive my ass all the way up to Blaine Washington one time and I remember crossing the Oregon Washington border and everyone was flying by me going 80 when I noticed the limit was at 70. I was actually quite happy because the highway was huge and there wasn't anything in between Vancouver and Olympia cept trees and rocks.

My Dad stumbled upon a tactic that worked on rural interstates.

Do 80+ in the left lane. 1/2 mile behind the idiot quoted give a single short HI-beam flash. At 1/4 mile give 2 short flashes. At 100 yds give 2 long flashes. At 50 yds blow the horn.

This guy proved how much little grey matter is housed in his skull by taking a cheap shot at an entire nation. His narrow sighted statement ascertains that there is a country to the north of the USA that is entirely populated by people who don't know how to drive.

In New York State, you have to be in the right lane unless your passing. Everywhere is the Keep Right Unless Passing sign. And if a cop is in a bad mood they will pull you over for being stupid.

I for one think its just proper manners to get the heck out of the way. If there is an opening and its not going to slow me down to terribly much, i have no problem sliding over for the person behind me **anyways, they act as good bait for cops so I can speed up a little bit**

We should make a petition to the US gov't to have no speed limit on interstates, it'll help traffic flow, people won't be late for anything, people will concentrate on their driving at higher speeds (no makeup, shaving).

You only have to make the DMV test a worldload more difficult, on par with Germany, that's all.

If that guy wants to drive slow, he can do so. Just do it in the right lane.
