View Full Version : Persuade why I should get a Hummer H3

I know the reasons why not to, like single handily killing the entire cast of Happy Feet for example.
Here are the facts;
I do few miles per annum. I need a utility, I have a place to park it. I live on the outskirts of the nearest Town.
Somebody is willing to lend me an H3 long term, and eventually swap it for my Golf R32 (Got a Z06 so do not need to go any faster!)
Petrol is high and going to get higher so deals are good.
Go on do your best!!

This is kinda retarded, if you want it buy it, if not do not, screw happy feet.
are you 13 or so that you need people to tell you what to buy, and over the internet none the less?

Age:45....
Guess not...
The fuel bill on the H3 is going to be outrageous....your better off with a Z06.
Do you have R32?
If so, keep it.
It can still haul stuff I would assume, and the gas bill would hella less.
*EDIT*
L6....lmao..
.50 turret option....fo shizzle man, fo shizzle :D

Yeah, but why would anyone in their right mind persaude you to get a Hummer H3?
You might as well have created a thread on why you should kill yourself, and then get annoyed at people when people are trying to tell you not to do it.

This is the point, it is easy to fight against, but what about taking the other tack. You are at the Faculty, ask one of the philosophy people about Socrates, argue for and then against!
Anyway, it is good for the mind and for fun...

sorry friend, I am not going to persuade you to buy one. Enjoy the Z06 and if you NEED a bigger car like that and want a petrol because dealerships are offering them cheaper than diesels ? (wish it was like that in the UK!) Being in switzerland I presume Diesel is more cost effective, so I see why Petrol models are reduced. Why not a Cayenne or Q7 (too big in my opinion).
What about that new chevy thing i've seen driving around here, don't know its name but it seems similar in dimensions to an H3 for space, only much better looking!!

OK, no good arguments to get one. But a Cayenne. Wow. I will keep the R32, until something else comes along (maybe a Passat R36- Joke)

I did not think Al Gore had any tears left.

fo shizzle :DWhat ever you do, don't listen to this guy, he doesn't make any sense.
From what I hear, the H3 is an exceptionally capable SUV, just be wary of those who may mistake it for an H2.

last time I went down Napolean's route, which was pretty spectacular, after having stayed just outside Geneva, in the French mountains.
It is a route I want to do properly now I have some fun cars to do it in :D :D
I will keep my eyes open for your Z06 :p

My neighbor (a woman) has an H3, and she seems to like it. However, it seems like all the people I see driving the H3's ARE women, so it's a chick car...
I would imagine there is nothing seriously WRONG with it other than it's one giant gaping flaw that it's an SUV...so other than that I guess if you REALLY want one, I still wouldn't recommend it, but....I guess you could do worse.

Oh crap, I just realized that.
hehe.

But still, doesn't the R32 have a rear cargo area?
If so then it would still have more cubic footage than a Z06!

^I believe he is thinking that a sports car (Z06) and an SUV (H3) would be a more useful pair than a sports car (Z06) and a sporty hatch (R32). And I would have to agree with him.

OK, you want a H3? Its um..big. Thats probabily the only reason why you should get a Hummer...

I'd get a Cayenne Turbo before a Hummer H3.
You live in Switzerland, you aren't probably looking for a good offraoder. I guess that instead you are looking for a good SUV. The Cayenne drives explendidly well, has an amazing engine (tops at 270km/h) and looks rather good (IMO).
It's a Porsche so surely the quality is good. It'll be reliable and have better fuel economy than the Hummer performing 10x better.

SWITZERLAND
35000 USD, yeah right!
In his country they are around the same price. I don't know how much he paid for his Z06 but around here it's around 130 000usd which is about double what it costs in the USA.

max is right, foreigners have to pay WAY more than we do for American cars like the Hummer and Corvette.
Leman, here are my thoughts:
Buy it because:
-It is capable off road
-Its unique looking
-Its probably rare in Switzerland
-It has the Hummer heritage
-It is large, but isn't overkill (like the H2)
-V8 Alpha has a nice engine
-will give you more space than the VW (assuming)
-you can ford 78 centimeter deep water
Don't buy it because:
-Interior isn't as nice as some of its European counterparts
-Isn't considered "luxurious"
-sightlines are bad
-surprisingly not that much cargo room
-as all SUVs fuel gulper
-IMO, better alternatives, like the aforementoned Cayenne as well as some Land Rovers
In the end, I would test drive a few SUVs other than the H3, such as the Cayenne, X5, Land Rover, Q7, and the Merc GL class. I would also tell you to wait a while for the H3T, you might like the pickup version more. It would give you more room for your stuff, especially if you add a top to it. However, I don't know how soon they will come over to Switzerland.
Hope that helped.

I have sat in a Hummer. Can't remember wich one but guessing the H3. I was shocked of how little space there is on the inside. If you need something just to haul stuff get a cheaper SUV.

if u can't find enough reasons to buy it, u cant ask ppl to persuade you.. it doesn't work this way. you should alot more sure about a car than this in order to buy it.
I myself can't help you. cause I really hate that car.
get a land rover defender

One reason:
"It's a magnet!!!" -Borat Sadkiev :) :)
And since it could be confused with the H2 just switch the badges...
Really, It is so hopeless, GM is selling Hummer anyway....
Actually it gets only 13 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway
And if you are really giving away the R32 for that thing it is miserable...
If you hate the R32(VW), you can get an R33 (Skyline GTR) for the same money as the Hummer, which catches eye better than the Hummer (The Hummer's only real attribute), and since no one would do anything in the hummer but drive around..... yes, just get a Skyline if you are really 13... It is extremely easy to drive and it is relatively fast too!!! You can practice on that thing and when you are ready, you can get a real sportscar, if you will not feel attached!!!

Can you get a similar deal on any other SUV's? I haven't done a huge amount of research but from what I have seen/heard Hummers aren't really up to standard with other SUVs. However, as I understand it you would be trading an old(ish) R32 for a used H3. If you think you need the extra space and the Z06 will be enough of a fast car then go for it.
I would imagine that the R32 would be more practical for daily use than either. I'm sure you've seen the petrol prices lately and don't need to be reminded of the horribly sized streets.

But still, doesn't the R32 have a rear cargo area?
If so then it would still have more cubic footage than a Z06!
One of the reasons I want a utility is that last week we piled my dog (Australian Shepard) a bike, and 120 litres of earth (in bags of course) into my wife's FRV Honda- and we drove with the tailgate tied down!
The Golf is in fact only a bigger than the Corvette in height, and with the Golf rear seats up, the Corvette has a longer charge capacity. (I can fit my rifle in it, something I need to use the ski hatch to do with the Golf!)
Great to see you are all in the spirit of it now.
I had heard that a lot of women went for the H3, again a good point as I would like my wife to drive it!
And yes the Corvette has better fuel milage when driven at legal speeds.
My hesitation is indeed due to the European street sizes. I reckon I will get that bit covered when I try it out for a few days.
Savedisov; thanks for the tip, but look at the picture on the left. That is mine! So I have all the speed I need.
I do not if you all know this, but Switzerland is the Number one market in Europe for 4x4. Something to do with the fact that we have mountains and snow.
A Land Rover Defender would be my next choice, as I have driven a military version in the past and it was great fun. Just lousy on the motorway.
The Golf and Hummer H3 are actually the same price over here with similar options. (The H3 I will try has the low shift box)
And yes, I was surprised that the inside was so small! I guess the deciding factor is what 4x4 utility with reasonable road manners has air conditioning in the cargo area for my dog!! THE major complaint from my wife in summer, even though I let her sit up front sometimes. (The dog that is, not my wife! Well yes my wife can sit up front too sometimes.)
Clutch; I reckon you have it covered. The Alpha would be better, and the fuel economy is worse, but the Golf is not brilliant either, with the DSG box, I get 14L/100KM in town and 11 on the motorway, which is higher than the the Corvette! (Last trip to Zurich logged 9.8L/100KM)
One point though, one of my cars is covered by the company, ie I get a fixed amount per month for the leasing etc. It has to be four door and Auto. (but the auto bit I forget if you see what I mean).
I am surprised nobody has mentioned Resale, which is just as well as I have no intention doing so. Getting long in the tooth you see.

People in other countries view cars, especially American ones, differently. Every time I go to Japan, I always see dudes with riced out Chevy Astros.
Also hatchbacks are "cooler" than sedans in Japan (i.e. Toyota Altezza hatchback is considered to be more stylish and popular than the sedan version).
So it depends where you get what car. Personally, I loathe the H3, in terms of exterior appearance, but I hate most American cars so it might be a biased opinion.
