View Full Version : Porsche Boxster versus Corvette...YOU CHOOSE THE MODEL...

This is a childish way of showing someone how to do something, but I'm pissed off for two reasons:
1-I wasted about 15 long, well worded posts on a rigged comparison.
2-My jaw hurts because I might have to get my wisdom teeth out today...=(

So I will re-do the heated Porsche Boxster versus Corvette comparison. This time though, we'll be doing it CORRECTLY.

This is Fast-Autos Chevy column:
http://www.fast-autos.net/chevrolet/chevrolet.html
And the Porsche one:
http://www.fast-autos.net/porsche/porsche.html

THE Comparison at hand has three questions:
1-Which is the best bang-for-buck?
2-Which would you rather own? And why?
3-Which do you think would win a 1 hour endurance race?

I'm going to compare a 2002 Corvette Z06 and a 2003 Porsche Boxster S

The Corvette Z06
$49,905
19/28 mpg
3118 lbs
6-Speed Manual
5.7 Liter V8
405 bhp @ 6000 rpm
400 lb-ft @ 4800 rpm
Redline: 6500 rpm
0-60 mph: 4.0 sec
0-100 mph: 9.5 sec
Quarter Mile: 12.5 sec @ 115 mph
Skidpad: .99g
Top Speed: 171 mph
Braking, 60-0 mph: 104 ft
Slalom Speed: 70.3 mph

The 2003 Porsche Boxster S
Price: $51,600
Miles Per Gallon: 5-speed manual, 20/29 mpg; Tiptronic S, 18/26 mpg
Curb Weight:5-speed manual, 2,811 lbs., Tiptronic S, 2,936 lbs.
Type:Flat-6
Displacement: 3179 cc
Horsepower: 260 bhp @ 6200 rpm
Torque: 228 lb-ft @ 4600 rpm
Redline: 6600 rpm
0-60 mph: 5.7 sec
0-100 mph: 13.2sec
Quarter Mile: --.- sec @ --- mph
Skidpad: .90g
Top Speed: 164 mph
Braking, 60-0 mph: 129 ft
Slalom Speed: 70 mph

So...
1-Best Bang for the buck? C5 Z06
2-Which would I rather own and why? Porsche Boxster S, for three simple reasons...It'll be faster than most if not all other cars out there in it's price bracket on the street, it's got Porsche prestige, and it's fun as hell to drive a mid engined car.
3-Which would win in a track race? The Boxster S's brakes would likely last a tad longer than the Vette's, allowing it to keep pace with the Corvette for the race, so all in all, it'd be too close to call. 8)

Still put me down for the vette.

As prior stated for me... I like Porsche, but that model just doesn't do it for me... the Vette is still more impressive in ALL AROUND performance, hands down , end of argument.

BTW, thanks for starting this thread. I don't smell anything fishy ...yet.....

Changing the argument from the previous one you lost? OK.

I choose the Porsche Boxster "S" becuase its a better all around performer and does more than just accelerate strong. It brakes, corners, slaloms and changes direction better than the vette.

I'll pull a trick from your play book.

Bang for the buck, I choose a Mustang Cobra. Its faster than a Vette and much cheaper. I'd also compare the Porsche 911 turbo to the Vette Z06 any day. It a better performer in every category.

Tuna...I agreed that the Boxster S was faster...Read my post where I THANKED YOU for those lap times...Sheesh...
I didn't agree however, with your format for comparison's.
I could rip your argument apart since you ignored the title, read it again...And you'll see the Turbo isn't in here, nor is the Cobra. I have no ill will to your love of other cars, I love both those too, I just think the way you made that comparison was flawed. And you can look at other member's posts to see it's not just me agreeing on it.

Now, let's keep this crap out of this.

Ghalos, I'm sorry, but I think this is too ridiculous... Making a (silly) topic just because you were pissed at someone is not the way to go.
Anyway, I'll keep this open to see if it gets anywhere.

And something of interest for you all who keep talking about "bang for buck":
The world is NOT the US only. For me, the Vette (base) costs €85k, while the Boxster costs €80k. Guess which one I'm going to choose??

FYI: All the prior posts point to a trolling tuna.

When asked to express our opinions, people who disagreed with the fish were basicly told "your crazy".

So to pur fearless moderator......this thread is just hear to prove a point.

Doing what he did is not wise. Find a smarter way to counter his arguments, which btw were mostly true. If you ask me, those two cars do not have the same demographics and shouldn't even be compared.
Creating a similar topic with "you choose the model" added to it, that I do not understand...

I admitted it's stupid. My point is that this is how one does the format of a comparison.

But, most importantly is the statement "You choose the model" means, base versus base, base versus top, or something else involving Boxsters and Corvette's. And trust me I know about how cars throughout the world sell in terms of pricing. In America, an M3 is about half as much as it is in certain parts of Europe. Same goes for the Boxster here in the states.

Ya' know what, as the thread creator lock it, it's not going to get the actual discussion I did want to start going. That much is clear, I appologize to anyone who thought I was above this childish crap. But only about a month or so ago we had a discussion in the Sportscarforums section of this site on COMPARISON form. And how it was important to include performance figures and the goal of the thread in the opening post.

I appologize for this thread, but not for my comments.

i just look it as a stubborn member, a normal member and a comparo.

i dont know what id pick. im not sure if i love the styling of the boxter. when the top is down it looks pretty good but when its up im not so sure. also, i think the zo6 has more tuning capability. luxury the porsche wins tho. so i dont know. id probly go for the zo6 but its a hard choice.

Yeah, ironically, I just saw a navy blue Boxster S with a navy blue top. And I tell ya', oooooo...Soooo curvaceous...The top on the Boxster is better looking up than the Corvette's does imo.

I think I'll pick the 2002 Z06 over the 2003 Boxster S because it has better acceleration and a superior bang-for-buck value. Felt good to say that and thanks for starting this Ghalos. Good topic. 8)

around a track a z06 is faster than a 911 turbo, the porsche gt3 is faster than a 911 turbo on track, and the gt3 and z06 have almost identical times.
the facts are there, the z06 has better 0-60, 1/4mile, braking, skidpad, top speed, horsepower, torque, v8. and gas mileage is almost the same!

there isnt anything mysterious as to why the vette dominates in modded car classes, racing GT, and GTS class in Le Mans. show me a boxster that dominates in GTS class.
not even a 911rs is good enough for the GTS class

For you, yes, but not for me. Check my post above. :)

This is pretty sad.. What is so hard people?!

The Z06 is better than the Boxster in EVERY CATAGORY. Its even cheaper. The only difference is probably the gas mileage. Keep in mind we're talking about a Z06 here, the suspension is tuned to perfection. I don't see why this is so hard. Dont give me this, "its lighter so its probably better on the track" bullsh*t. It weighs like 150 lbs less. Not a noticeable difference. I think a better comparo is the 2005 Z51 to the 2005 911.

Yes I know, I just wanted to drive my point from the previous comparison home. That pricing really stink for you. That's what you get for getting the Focus RS when I don't! :P
