View Full Version : PS Comp: Dakar Rally
TBR 427
Jan 20, 2008, 3:19 AM
The Dakar rally has been cancelled because of terrorist threats, and the safety of the competitors is out number one priority.
Unfortunately, there will be no stunning shots of "scenery" this you, and I, like most of you, am lamenting the lack of off-road awesomeness.
So, in a return to the PS comps, and the first of the year, we should do Dakar Rally cars. That's the theme for (what's left of) the month.
You are showing off your creativity and your chopping skills.
You can make up to 3 entries! But if you do, they have to be significantly different from each other. Revisions after entry are acceptable, though you should indicate which one you wish to be entered.
Post your images here in this thread.
Also, post a link to the picture. (see below)
Post the pic in the SCF Gallery, then post in [img] format.
Please post it in JPG format.
In your picture please include your user name and the SCF logo.
You have until Thursday the 31st of January at Midnight (AUS. EST) to submit your entries, so there is no need to rush right away.
Quality takes time.
Voting will start 1st or 2nd of Febuary.
If you enter, you MUST vote. Entrants who do not vote will be penalized.
[P.S. Since mid-december, I've been trawling around the internet, trying to find somewhere to do some casual PS comps. I've been through digimods, etc, but they were all far to focussed on PSing, and had no chatty-stuff like on SCF. GMInsidenews.com has a bloody good PS forum, though, it too, wasn't as friendly or open as SCF. Ergo, I'm trying a variation of it's format/competition layout to see if I can kickstart/restart the PSing community here]
Some cars you could use are Hummers, GMCs, Audi Q7's, Cayenne's (:D), etc. Try not to use Taouregs (?) or Pajeros, or cars currently competing, try to do something new.

Does chopping include Vexels as well, or is the comp restricted real-life-looking images only?

here is one I started a LONG time ago one night when I was bored but never got close to finishing... maybe I will try finish it for this comp now, or probably easier to start again :p

I can i just state that the SCF gallery looks like it resizes your image to 1024x768, while I work with huge 1600x1200 images. It also reduces the quality of the image, so whatever work many people do would probably end up looking like it was saved on paint.

you could always load your images onto imageshack.us or photobucket.com or some other photo hosting site maybe... you can change the settings on photobucklet to accept larger images, default I think is 1280...

Yep, Vexels are allowed, though they must still comply with the rules. It's close enough to be considered 'chopped.

hmmmmm. That's strange; all my massive pics are still huge in the gallery. Perhaps you should ask Ghalos or Rollin about that.

As long as there's a version in the Gallery for me to post up as a thumbnail in the voting thread, and if you do post it somewhere else, please post a link.
BTW, I'm working on a Holden Captiva...found a nice pic of it kickin' up dirt :)

Eventually, I'm hoping to do a background change, and deck the car out in Holden Rally Team colours.

here is a VERY EARLY WIP, and very small for that reason, since the quality needs a lot of tidying :p

its slowly being converted to a Dakar pick-up style truck :) (or thats the plan anyway)
EDIT, just read all the rules... man you've changed these rules since I (we) started this competition!

I'm having a stab, and I've got a good idea for a car. Not what you'd expect though.

I might give it a try but i am currently doing the new m3 coupe into a cabrio, news facelifted cls in a brabus/ART mix, eclipse spyder, suzuki jimmy & dodge charger restoration.
Actually i have decided to opt out. As my other chops seem to have my time than comp cars.

That's freaking awesome! You pulled that off very well, though you should change the red bit over the front wheel...

well...I'm just surprised we've got a moderator competing in my PS comp. You do many PS comps before I was on SCF?

I started the whole PS comp thing off with 2 other members a long time ago!
I still enter the odd one, but very rarely and I dont put in the time or the effort I used to

I'm going to let you know now that those are ok pics for not being good at chops, but unfortunatly they could have been made that way in paint.
There is just so many things I could point out, but won't because I myself couldn't do that much better. I'm taking a graphics class so I can find out how to use photoshop better.
My only piece of advice is to look at some tutorials online if you want real specific skills, that's how I've learned some new skills.

here you go.
I'm pleased with the front, and the interior (CF helmets:D), and while I changed every panel, it still looks like a Captiva.
10th of Febuary is the new deadline.
Good luck!
^kinda Peugeot inspired Lion on the side there :), it's really nice, very proffesionel work!, but it still look a bit stock!, can't you add an rear spoiler?, or some grilles on the hood?, just too make it more "Racy"?

That would be the HSV lion. It's a usual appearance on the HSV V8 Supercars.
TBR, the lion on the side has an annoying bright red outline which is brighter the more it goes into the red area. The rest looks pretty great.

Don't know who was first, but i it still looks like the Peugeot Lion, or the other way around.

OK, I'll add someventy things, maybe that'll help. But only if it still is instantly recognisable as a Captiva. You've seen the VW Dakar cars? without the bit VW logo, you wouldn't know what they were!

I have not idea why that there, actually...I set the lion (white bit) to luminousity-so it should be completely desatureted :-k
I'll clean it up tonight when I get home from work, anyway.

Holden has always had a lion as it's badgy thing. And the racecars incorporated it from the early '90's methinks.
