So... what do you guys think the next one should be based on? It's already been announced that Treyarch is developing it but there's no official word yet on what time period the game will take place in. I would rather see a game that goes along with COD 4 but that probably won't happen until COD 6 when Infinity Ward takes over again. I have a feeling COD 5 will go back to WWII...

I agree in that they may end up going back to WWII, but, with the success of COD 4, they may consider sticking with the whole "present-day" gameplay. Personally, I would like them to stick with the current theme from COD 4. I'm sick of the WWII theme from COD 1, 2, and 3.

The problem is that 4 and 5 won't be developed by the same company. I have a feeling we're going to go back to being able to drive vehicles and stuff...

I have no problems with the ability to drive Jeeps and stuff, but 1 man running a WHOLE TANK?!?!?

Why did Infinity Ward give up the rights to make COD 5? Or is it just a contract that they had that ran out?

hmm.. back to vehicles. Must be a tough competitor for the new upcoming Battlefield series.

I think I did read that they are going back to wwII for the next one. They want to go back to the series roots or something like that.

I just hope they don't do the bf2142 thing... and make it all futuristic and such. I mean BF2142 is a good game, but call of duty shouldn't try the future thing if you ask me.

I think that cod5 will just be kind of gimmicky and a game that just uses the title to sell it. Nothing new or special(weather it be ww2 or modern) just new campaign and story. Thats not the say the game is going to be bad, cause im sure that it will be good just like any COD game, but i'm just saying i wouldn't expect too much until infinity ward takes over. Now what would be kinda cool, would be a game based in Vietnam, just because only a few games get based around that war, i enjoyed bfvietnam a lot.

My 2 cents

How many people do you think it takes to drive a tank? lol

Infinity Ward didn't give up the rights to COD. Activision wants a Call Of Duty title released once a year. That's too fast for a develoment company to create a decent game. COD 4 took two years to make. That's why COD 3 was licensed to Treyarch. Infinity Ward is now working on COD 6 which will probably continue on after COD 4. Treyarch has been in pre-development for COD 5 for quite some time. Like I read earlier... "It's better to have a great game every two years than a so-so game every year." lol

Its just a rumor though, noone really knows except the designers.

I really don't mind, I like WWII. Or games about it at least, I'm sure the war wasn't to fun to be in.

It should be the revolutionary war.

I think COD5 should be set in the jungle, Vietnam or somthing.

I think CoD 5 could keep the modern day thing...

Just more black ops based...

Something between Asian and the Allies.....Noko maybe.

monkeyfkker
Jan 17, 2008, 5:01 PM
I like the modern thing but I think for 5 I'd rather have something like BMW BOSS said... a jungle warfare thing. Then save the modern stuff for 6 when Infinity Ward makes their next one...

i do think vehichles is a good thing but expand it more, for things like choppers, jets, ect, it worked amazingly well in bf2

I would prefer it to be set in modern day. Theres just so many WWII games out there, i don't think we should need any more. Although we do need some variety so i prefer both to be honest.

But i agree with BMW BOSS. Jungle warfare sounds like a great theme for COD5.

I think the bonus mission in COD4 is a demo of COD5.

skyline_luva19

i think its just a bonus level,

COD5 is not going to be made by infinity ward, so its definatly not a demo.

Although I am not a big COD4 player, I think the present day action is something they are interested in continuing. I actually see COD5 going somewhere in the near future, say 10-15 years down the line, and have a game take place in a WWIII ravaged world.

Hey, I have an imagination and I use it sparcely, so work with me here.

I never liked futuristic games, another reason why I didnt buy BF2142.

BF2 was awesome.

BF2 was AMAZING IMO. However, even if COD5 does go back to its roots, I think it would be interesting to see their spin on the future soldier. We have a few who have gone out there, but not COD.

skyline_luva19
Jan 18, 2008, 7:48 AM
I think if they did something in the realistic near future that would be interesting, not laser guns and plasma rifles but more developed assault rifles and snipers ect.

I have always been a big supporter of Vietcong so if they could somehow replicate COD 5 into a Vietnam style scenario then it might make for a successful game and be good for a change away from WW2, Especially seeing as the Allies actually lost the Vietnam war...

it'd be very very very repetative and bland..

If they go with WWII stuff, it will be fine. I'd rather prefer the modern day stuff, similar to what they have done with 4 but whatever, it's the CoD series so it's bound to be bloody good.

astonmartin138
Jan 18, 2008, 2:21 PM
I think the cold war/vietnam war/something in between would be good, although it seems strange to go back on yourself. They may have jumped the gun and gotten too excited over modern day combat to consider where the franchise will go next.

BMW_BOSS

Yeah, a lot of places seem to be saying that COD5 will go back to WW2.

Now that that conversation is done, what about COD6. I say it will be in the near future with a WW3 like storyline....:D

monkeyfkker
Jan 19, 2008, 8:14 AM
Nah... COD 6 will be Infinity Ward's chance to continue on COD 4... Terroist type storylines but with more advanced weapons.

I'd be open to vehicles, but only done is a realistic way or else it would ruin the gameplay.

First off, I'd make a stinger missile, or two AT4s and or a SMAW rocket as options in the loadout under the same category as the claymores or extra grenades to balance the vehicles. The AT4 is anti-tank, but less smaller and less powerful then the SMAW so you would have two shots (one of which would significantly damage a tank and could be finished off by the second shot or other weapons) and totally destroy a hummer. If you chose the SMAW, you could totally take down whatever you were shooting at, but you had one shot which is good and bad (less exposure to the vehicle but only one chance) with the weapon also being more accurate and predictable. The Stinger is obviously anti-air, one shot only, and prone to countermeasures. RPGs would remain as a multipurpose weapon with relatively light damage that could be shot at people, tanks, helicopters, etc.

Second, I wouldn't make it haloish where cars and tanks can reach anywhere and everywhere, flipping over and jumping hundreds of feet in the air to do so. You're limited in the places you can drive to, you can get stuck, and then you just become a huge bullet magnet.

Third, I'd make sure the vehicles took damage, so you could pop tires, break treads, knock out the main gun or secondary weapons. I'd also make it so people could take damage if they were shot through windows, so you could shoot out the passengers or driver.

Forth, you drive from inside the vehicle. In a tank, this means looking out a tiny little slot but you should have the option of using thermal or nightvision cameras.

And fifth, and already said, you shouldn't be able to man a tank by yourself.

And while we're on the subject of changes to the game, the down button of the d-pad should change a weapon's rate of fire, that would be awesome. The a-button should be integrated into a cover system like gears of war. And the loadouts should be down more realistically as I described in my rant in the previous call of duty thread.

I'm done, thanks to anyone who read that.

Wow, those were actually some good points there Phil. If all of those were included in COD5 or COD6 it's guaranteed to be the an awesome shooter. Combined with a great single player campaign as always.

I highly agree with that. It would be great if you could switch your M4 Carbine for example, to fully automatic when your infiltrating a building or in close quarters combat. And then switch it to single-fire for sniping across the map.

I think they have already squeezed enough out of WW2 and I think many will agree with me that WW2 stuff is not interesting anymore.
COD5? I think we'll see some of Iraq and Afghanistan war in it.

In WW1 their helmets were soo heavy, soldiers had sore necks all the time. I remember my teacher sayin his father had a WW1 helmet weighing in at 20+ lbs.

Like I said... how many people do you think it takes to drive a WWII tank? Now, I agree that if one is driving he shouldn't be able to fire the turret...I said "man", not drive, meaning that one person should not be able to drive, aim, fire and reload a tank. I'm fine with one person being able to drive a tank, but not do any of the other tasks. :p

Thanks GTKing, I really wish they would patch COD4 to allow selective rates of fire. It seems like it's something so obvious but I can't believe they left it out.

In AA, jamming gets pretty freaking annoying. But I guess If you want to play a real fps simulator type of thing, gotta keep it real.

Honestly, i would love to have a modern warfare game set in japan. There could be a few different settings to, it could be like modern japan with like flashing lights and stuff everywhere, and then there could be like the old style japan with the cool buildings and whatnot. So, in a sense, kinda like vegas, except in japan.
