Last week I bought myself a nice, White 1990 Rover Mini Mayfair 988cc, I've got 1275cc Cooper engine to rebuild and put in as well as welding the new front end.
I've built up a list of things i plan to do it and i want to know if any of you think this is ricing.]
Here we go: :-s
¬ Respray White with black roof
¬ Group5 or Sportpack Wheel arches
¬ 12" or 13" widened Minator alloy wheels
¬ Genuine MiniSport Cooper exhaust system
¬ K&N air Filter
¬ Halogen Headlamp Upgrade
¬ Road Bucket Seats
¬ "Adjusta Ride" Suspension Kit
¬ Rebuild Dash (newer Dials and gauges, possibly of newer Rovers)
¬ New sound system (new headunit, co-axial speakers, 6x9 speakers and a Amp+Sub pack)
¬ Maybe Brake Upgrades ("green stuff" discs and pads)
honest opinions please! :)
EDIT: how i plan to make it look

ill get some,
it doesn't look great at the moment, the front panel, wheels arches and bonnet has been removed so i can rebuilt the front end and for easy access to the engine bay.
EDIT: i've put a pic in my 1st post of how I plan to make it look.

the second you start talking about doing anything under the hood in the name of performance, it's in no way a ricer in my mind. Good luck and have fun!

Who cares if people think it's ricer, do what you like to your car. Cars tell about the drivers personallity, and from what I see, you got some nice plans. Good luck!
Mr. AMG
Dec 25, 2007, 9:13 PM
If its a Mini, then ricing is impossible. lol, love the idea man.

Who cares about what others think? Its what YOU think thats important.
p.s. I havent seen a riced cooper before....dont think you can really rice it out.

Dec 26, 2007, 11:45 AM
Man it's not ricing , and it will never be , if you follow the actual idea the car will look very classic and clean , you're using original and functional parts.
I really liked your idea , but in terms of brakes never put "maybe" put them as a priority of any project that you have , suspension stuffs as well.

^^Hehe,
So far doesn't sound like ricing, just keep your car clean looking in the exterior.
Mini looks like a nice little project car, good luck with it. ;)

Dec 26, 2007, 2:09 PM
This has to be one of the first times that I agree with the Brazilian.... look into the brakes. My '64 had stock brakes, and well they did their job, but once you play with the car for a while, you loose braking power very very very fast.
hyphon12
Dec 26, 2007, 2:48 PM
^^^ Rover worked on them though, they put bigger brakes on them hence why the newer ones can't use the 10" wheels, they use 12" or bigger, 13" is the biggest anyone should go.
Cooper "s"
Dec 26, 2007, 2:53 PM
hmmm but 15" would look nice tucked inside the wheel wells. hmm, might have to re work all the sheet metal for that one.
hyphon12
Dec 26, 2007, 2:57 PM
13" Is the biggest I will go, any bigger and i would have to fabricate wheel arches which is too much hassle.
Cooper "s"
Dec 26, 2007, 3:16 PM
Yeah it will be a pain but man it would look very sexy. I was wanting to do that, someday If i ever find another original mini for a reasonable price in the us. I would love to fit 15" in the car, and maybe go with a rotatory engine, straight out of an rx-8. imagine that a real wheel drive mini.
hyphon12
Dec 26, 2007, 3:44 PM
I think 15" are a bit Over the Top but ive seen a mini with 14" and it didnt look to shabby to be honest.

sounds like a great project you've got their.

i just had a thought, i could somehow, dunno how but somehow put some Merc stuff into it :p, maybe... a Merc Instrument cluster? nah that wouldn't work.... hmm maybe the washer jets??? i dunno.

it would be pointless having a speedo that goes up to 160mph in a car that would only do about 100mph :p

if we had all said thats a terrible idea it will be awful would you have changed your mind?
hyphon12
Dec 30, 2007, 9:56 AM
maybe? i always like a 2nd or 3rd opinion, but in this cause, no.
i really thought i should ask because my mates are saying in turning it into a boy-racer car which im adamant its not, i just don't want to end up a ricer, ive seen come really badly riced minis, e.g. i saw a purple mini with Golf mk IV headlights for sale in the December MiniWorld Magazine.
EDIT: Changed my mind on the colour, i thinking of going with Gun Metal Grey or the Mercedes Gun-Grey Pearlescent.

I've thought about making it black aswell but the roads i use to get to work are usually kick dirt up onto the car and it follows a river so its likely to covered with flies and black is hard to keep clean hence why im now thinking of a silver or grey colour.

Best idea ever, make it look like Mr. Bean's cooper. It'll attract alot of attention.

Bean didn't have a cooper :p just a standard Austin Mini, might just make it look like his bonnet :p

To solve the dirt that kicks up, mud flaps should solve that problem
The only protection I could think of for the flies is a hood protector, which obviously keeps only the hood clean. A hood protector looks like this:

hyphon12
Dec 31, 2007, 5:46 PM
a hood protector...? on a mini...? prrft :D
Mud flaps won't fit on the car very well if i get Sportpack arches.
I'm still considering black though.

nah, i dont want anything Flash at all, im not having chrome at all apart from the parts that are chrome as stock.

hyphon12
Jan 06, 2008, 3:14 PM
I'm gonna use the 998cc engine just to start with but im gonna build up a 1275cc block and when i can afford the insurance im gonna put in a Metro Turbo engine (1275cc bored out to 1380cc).

Also, if you put a VTEC in a mini, mmmmm torque steer.
They are atrocious for it, and i wouldnt want to drive it in Scotland on a normal, rainy day, you'd be into a tree faster than you could say och nooo!

HAHAHA that made me laugh.
Seeing as how we own both an old one and a new one, i can really say that the new just don't compare to the old. In a mini sort of way.
Don't get me wrong though, i still like the new ones a lot. But they aren't real minis.

Don't get a black motor! They are really really hard to clean mate, stick with a lighter colour.
I have a black car, I washed it last week, then after one trip out the exhaust fumes had made a nice cloudy mark on the bumper (it was cold etc.) so don't do black!
If it were me, it'd be like so-
Silver bodywork
Black top
Black Cooper Stripes
Black arches
Silver Minilites
^ That'll look good. And be easy to keep clean, because silver just goes a darker shade of well, silver!
