Top Gear 330i driving itself on the track...
Driving a car yourself is much more fun of course. But pretty cool technology though, would be usefull to get to work early in the morning!

I saw it on top gear on sunday. If it was the M3 it'd be more exciting.

Well Jeremy said on Top Gear that you could put that technology in an M3 which would be awesome.
I wonder how you turn that thing off if you were driving to work and you needed to stop. Maybe you just use the car ahead of you.

Modern cars can apply their speed to the cars driving in front of it?

There is probably an extra key or button to press to stop it. He was just joking around about not being able to get out for comic effect most likely.

No, I meant by crashing into the car infront of you.

Yeah, I kinda figured that, he always does things like that. You probably just have to press the button which turned it on again.

I thought it was pretty interesting. I'd rather ride in that than a roller coaster for a few bucks lol. It didnt seem like it was really really flying, Im sure with more time they could make it faster than it was. It did hit 120 on the back straight though which isnt too bad. It's certainly another glimpse at what the future may hold for us in the world of cars. Reminds me of I-robot in a sense.

It also reminds me of Terminator 3. Robots taking over the world. Technology these days....

Does anyone have any idea of what kind of lap time it got? I wonder how it compared to a human controlled lap.

That thing wasn't driving itself, it was just copying clarkson's original lap.
The only way it could beat the stig is if it was driven by someone faster than the stig and recorded the lap.

It was a pretty nice effort. Think of a in a few year's time, quite a few cars on the road might have that technology.

But it not good for the thrill or adrenenaline-kick you get while driving a sportscar.

That's what I was thinking.
The trouble with this system is that it needs to learn it's path before it can actually do it. It needs to be told where to brake, where to steer etc. Therefore, it's really just a novelty system that has no big use anywhere else.

that's sort of how you program racing games' AI, it has to learn the path first. Pretty neat though...
