So as the title states I decided today to watch a car oriented movie marathon. I did some research into some of the greatest car movies of all time and hunted them all down off mini nova. I started off with the classics, Cannonball run 1, 2, and 3. These movies, especially the first and second were likely not only some of the best car movies but also had some of the most star studded casts in movie history. They are packed full of comedy, great scenes, and great cars. They truly reminded me of how much I love the Countach and old school muscle as well as exotic cars. I went from the cannonball series to Bullit. Obviously this movie as most of you know while not really car oriented possesses perhaps what it considered the all time greatest car chase in film. You have your 68 Stang fast back and a 69 charger R/T. Both amazing cars, looks and sound wise, two of my favorite classics. After bullit I moved on to Vanishing Point. This was the first time I have seen this movie and man, what a great flick. A man and his modified 1970 charger R/T blasting across the country, hopped up on amphetamines, ditching the police, racing through the back roads. It is truly like easy rider only with a car. It is certainly worth watching. Finally I ended on Gone in Sixy Seconds. Don't have to say much about this movie. Great cars, great scenes, Angelina Jolie, and most importantly Elanor and what I would consider the second greatest car chase behind Bullit. Anyways just thought I'd share some movie knowledge with everyone, Id highly recommend any of these movies to everyone and anyone who loves cars.

If you're having a car movie marathon , god have mercy upon your soul if you did not watch Smokey & The Bandit , Dirty Mary & Crazy Larry & HotRod.

American Graffiti, watch that.

Oh and if you're a true movie fan you know who Quentin Tarintino is, One of his lated movies called Death Proof....watch that...some straight raw driving scenes in there, but it is kind of boring at times...but it has some sexy sexy cars in there, the same challenger you mentioned from vanishing point, and a charger, and a nova, and a sexy mustang...

i used to have wednesday war movie marathons..

from about 7am till i went to sleep non stop war action...

From the old greats like Big red 1, platoon, full metal jacket, apoc now ETC ETC...
to the new classics, like saving private ryan, black hawk down, jar head, etc etc

most of the time i wouldn't be able to fit them all in...and that never included the Band of Brothers Series.

Whoever hated the movie Black Hawk Down should go sit in the corner. That movie was awesome. They had very nice HUMVEE's. I still dont get how the RPG's didnt really blow up the HUMVEE's... i mean they aren't rocket proof.

RPGS aren't rockets..they're grenades...and in the event they lose momentum they wouldn't destory it completely because Grenades/RPG's are not as strong as IED's..IED's make humvee's go BOOM

BTW the one in black hawk down your talkin about was a "dud" and did nothing but penetrate the humvee door and spear the guy but never detonated.

Driftster (or anyone else, really). have you seen Band Of Brothers? I would say that that series has been THE most influential piece of moving image in my life.

If you look at the impact, i think it has enough force to detonate the explosive.

I'm a film student and I can say that no matter how much of a sucker i am for car porn/movies with car chases and anything auto-oriented, REDLINE is by far THE most abysmal story involving cars (nice or otherwise) ever allowed to be bound in celluloid. Seriously, that movie is god awful. I watch movies all the time as my job, no matter how bad they are I sit through them, usually the bad ones are at least good for a laugh. But rather than being funny-bad, Redline is the first movie I found to be absolutely painful to sit through. do not take my words lightly.

for a humorous touch of car fun, you guys should go watch the old cult classic "Death Race 2000" by no means a great movie, but a funny concept and Sylvester Stallone is even in it before he became a star.

And on one other note, there are many chases I would consider better than the Eleanor chase in the 2000 Remake of Gone in Sixty Seconds, take for example the ORIGINAL Gone in Sixty Seconds, which everybody seems to forget even exists, thinking the Ang Jolie and Nic Cage version is the only one or something. The Director H.B. Hallicki wound up dying while filming a scene for a sequel to that original flick, he loved his cars...

And for the record, the very first movie I ever watched was the original Herbie The Love Bug. I think that's what sparked my interest in cars. I re-watched that movie constantly from age 3 to 10, fantastic thing to grow up on. And yes, the car does split in half during the big race, lol.
