I remember him doing it with a Aston Martin DB7 with some sort of sports pack, but I don't remeber him doing it with the Z06. I could be wrong though, and I am sure you could do the same with the Corvette.

Jeremy does like the standard C6 Corvette, and just doesn't like some of the things that have been done to the Z06. A lot of other people seem to think that the standard C6 is the one to go for, and as Bossesjoe has shown in the past with a bit of 'tuning' you can easily get similar performance numbers from the 6.0 Litre V8. You could also tune the Z06 for more horsepower and torque, but I think it probably has enough already.

I remember when I saw my first Bentley Continental GT, I was absolutely incredulous. It 'cut me up' at the roundabout where he/she should have given way, and I just so happened to be going the same way he/she was, so I started to drive a bit faster to see if I could catch up with it. I remember getting to the slip-road to the dual-carriageway just in time to see him/her move into the inside lane, floor the throttle - I am assuming they floored the throttle, because if they didn't it was even quicker than it appeared to be - and move across into the outside lane, and then virtually disappear from sight. I have never seen anything move so fast in real-life before. It think he/she must have been upto at least 150 mph, when I saw him/her hit the brakes because some poor un-suspecting soul was in the way.

The point of this story is to show that in the real world there are a lot of very fast cars that the statistics fo not do justice to. People look at something like the Bugatti Veyron and 1000 hp+ cars and forget how quick something like a Bentley Continental GT or a Corvette C6/Z06 actually is. People seem to get caught up in the whole fantasy about how much horsepower cars have, although I think the Z06 has enough horsepower for anybody.

Anyway, the Z06 is an amazing car. Did anybody else notice the hiccup it seemed to have coming into 5th gear? Probably a driver error. Either way I want one.

As for liking the C6 more because you can get as much performance out of it with tuning... couldn't you theoretically do that with pretty much any car if you are smart enough, and have the money, time and ability to put into it?

Yes, you can. The thing about the Z06 is the engine. It's an amazingly brilliant piece of metal.

Overpriced? I'm sorry, but over here the Z06 costs over £62,695, whilst the XKR costs a modest £67,500 (compared to its true £82,700 M6 and £99,897 SLK55 AMG rivals) it is great value for what you get. I'd pay that extra £4,805 anyday for all the extra comfort, luxury and looks. Underpowered? Last time I checked, 420bhp and 570Nm wasn't underpowered. It may have 80bhp and 60Nm less than the 'Vette, but it doesn't matter; it's how the XKR puts its power to the road that counts. It's extremely comfy, practical (huge boot, spacey interior, plenty of storage areas) and so quiet and refined. Any reviews I've read of the 'Vette havesaid its refinement is awful and its interior is dissapointing. I agree. I've been in a (quite sexy-looking yellow) Corvette C6 that my neighbour's brother bought over from America. Its interior was absolutely horrific, disgusting, scratchy plastics and parts of the interior felt flimsy and all-to-easy to break. The leather also felt like a cheap plasticy substitute. I can't be bothered to go on about the interior, it just isn't what it should be for the price, that's all. It's not so much that it's full of plastic, it's that it just looks so dim, boring and cheap. Why post the 911 interior? You know I don't like the 911, the 911's interior is boring.

The zo6 is LHD and costs a lot more here than it does comparitivly in the US so it's not really that good a deal for britain, but if you lived in the US it would be hard to beat

the point is that the vette has not got abad interior at all, the jag has a luxury interior and thats what that car is all about, its for 40+ yr old men who wanna go fast in comfort, and it does a great job at that, its just not to my taste.

I've never bragged about the ST as such, just talked about it... I loved the car, it was great, a proper thrill.

Yeah, there isn't, but the average person doesn't ever do a single trackday in their own car, so that point is near invalid. A daily driver for around £70k? Well, the best in that area are definately the Jaguar XKR, Porsche 911 Carrera 4S. The S5 is also a decent sports car.

but for outrignt performance the zo6 spanks them and if they do want a track day as im sure most vette owners will then itsa great buy. also the c5 vette i sat in was a very nice blue convertible and was only £12k

^Aston, as much as I love the VXR8/Clubbie its in no way comparable to the Z06. Its a 4 door sedan vs a 2 door, mid engined coupe. Aside form that the Z06 has a 100hp and 400kg advantage.

Power and speed for another £30k and having to live with a LHD car isn't preferable to a powerful enough, practical car over here - but I can see why you'd prefer the Z06 elsewhere.
