View Full Version : Porsche Comparison for all you Porsche lovers

I started a thread about the new Nissan Gt-R being a serious Porsche contender. Needless to say it caused an uproar. So I decided to show my love for Porsches and start another commotion by seeing which one is the best Porsche out there. They are not similar and this goes by comparing over all car performance, looks, speed and if you just like it more.
I want to make it clear that all Targas, Boxters, Caymans and Cayennes do not count as they are annoying or entry level boring IMO and this is my comparisson so I can put whatever I like :D But if you must have them, go ahead and say why. Here in Europe they are a fairly common.
So we have the following, all are claimed numbers and vary website to website:

911 GT2
Power: 530 Hp; 505 lb/ft torque
Acceleration: 0-60 in 3.6
Speed: 204 mph
Driveline: Rear Wheel

911 GT3 RS
Power: 415 Hp; 300 lb/ft torque
Acceleration: 0-60 in 4.0
Speed: 193 mph
Driveline: Rear Wheel

Carrera GT
Power: 605; 437 lb/ft torque
Acceleration: 0-60 in 3.9
Speed: 205 mph
Driveline: Rear Wheel

RUF R Kompressor
Power: 435 Hp; 347 lb/ft torque
Acceleration: 4
Speed:186 mph
Driveline: Rear Wheel

RUF Rt RT 12
Power: 650 Hp; 642 lb/ft torque
Acceleration: 0-60 in 3.7
Speed: 220 mph
Driveline: Rear Wheel

1987 911 CTR Yellowbird
Power: 469 Hp; 563 lb/ft torque
Acceleration: 0-60 in 4.8
Speed: 212 mph
Driveline: Rear Wheel

I find it interesting how the Carrera GT is not that powerful compared to the 911 GT2. The turbos are probably the reason. Yellowbirds are classic cars i always liked.
RUF cars are just interesting for what they do to them. But the GT3 RS is my favorite, it doesnt have the top speed and the top torque but its way nicer IMO than all the rest. It comes stock with a rollcage and its made for the track. The colors are fast and it doesnt look like the typical Porsche. Not to mention its all engine, no supercharger or turbos to make it fast.
I didnt bother with the Carrera line because they arent as special as the rest, but they still deserve a nod of respect. Everything from the "S" up are great cars.
If I am missing any, as I am sure I am, please list it. With specs please.

You got the specifications wrong for Carrera GT. It makes 605bhp. It's the lightest among all of them, probably. Just a dry weight of 1380kg. Likely to be the fastest around tracks. It's V10 makes the best tune among all of them.

You said the Carrera GT is not that powerful compared to the 911 GT2? Let's have someone to try a rolling start, what about 60mph? The GT2 probably wouldn't catch up. The GT2 might have a faster 0-60mph but when it reaches higher speed (eg. 100mph), the Carrera GT is likely to take the lead. The GT3 RS isn't really what I want. I would prefer the GT3. It might not be that hardcore but do you really need a really hardcore car? Ask yourself. As long as I could drive happily on the streets and also tracks, I'm satisfied. I don't really like the other tuners. RUF is the best though. Edo Competition's GT2R isn't really bad either. You would need more time to find better tuners. In my opinion, the R Kompressor shouldn't be in this competition. Maybe the Sportec SPR1 should be here, it's very fast.

Thanks for the correction, I had it right before I dont know what happened. Fixed! Anyway, the Carrera GT is just God ugly to me, but I know its the better car. I would think it was a lot more powerful but you are correct on the weight and other things such as suspension. I've seen two on the road and was mildly impressed. The R Kompressor just looks nice to me (the colors mannnn) and its a little more powerful than the GT3 RS but then again its got a supercharger.

The CGT . Its the most complete porsche supercar since the 959 .

The car is just absolete and flawless IMO . Looks stunning , wonderfull and V10 motor . snug racey cabin . and lieghtweight .

as much as i love RUF but tuned porsche's are not my style (with some exeptions ).

so a close 2nd choice place would be the GT2.

as much as i love RUF but tuned porsche's are not my styleRuf Porsches are NOT tuned cars. They are registered as a car builder. They are the only company licensed by Porsche to take their cars, strip them to the frame, and rebuild them using their own specs... therefore becoming a Ruf, not a Porsche. Much different than the millions of 'tuning' companies around the world...

Ugh.... this is hard...I'm torn between the Yellowbird and CGT.

I guess I'll take the CGT.

The Carrera GT is heart stoppingly beuatiful, has a gorgeous interior, is about as a fast as you can possibly get in a road car, it's quite handily one of the best sounding things in the history of time, and it's a modern legend (in my eyes).

The Yellowbird, while being super-duper-mega-OMG-wow-awesome, when get down to it, only has a nostalgia advantage over the CGT. And I know that CGT will be just a special in twenty years time as the Yellowbird is if not more so.

And I think I might be a little tall for an old 911.

Yes i understand but just looking at a Ruf , you can tell its basically a tuned Porsche :p

RUF does a pretty good job building they're cars to there specs .

lol... a 'tuned' car is a car that is taken from the dealer, modified with parts added, and body panels screwed on, then sold as a tuned car.

Ruf takes the car to the frame, as well as the engine to the block, and reassembles it as it's own car. That's why when you buy a 'tuned' Porsche from any other company and register it, it's registered as a Porsche. Ruf's are registered as a Ruf. Ruf is licensed as a car builder.

I voted the CGT. It's just awesome.

And the Targa's and Caymans are not "annoying or entry level". Drive one. Or even the Boxster or Cayenne for that matter.

And you definitely forgot the 959, and the '73 2.7RS, and the 911 930. Those are incredible.

My favorite Porsches are the Carrera S, GT3 and 911 Turbo. They aren't as aggresively tuned as these souped-up 911s, but they are still ferociously quick. More than quick enough for me. Paying extra for more performance would be silly for a someone like me because I'd never use it. I'd be much happier with the extra comfort from gentler suspension settings.

Of the choices listed, I like the CGT best. You may ask why I'd choose the fastest and most expensive choice after saying I wouldn't use all the performance. Simple. The CGT offers more than awesome performace. It looks exotic, offers topless entertainment, and is exclusive.

Are those things really worth the price of admission? Not really. There are lots of other Porsche convertibles, and any Ruf creation is exclusive. That's why the CGT isn't my favorite Porsche. Price aside though, I really like the CGT's precise handling and good looks. The lack of a roof is the real deciding factore though...

The CTR Yellowbird comes in second. It's been surpassed in performance, but it's still damn fast by any standard. And it's a piece of history being Ruf's first car.

You could include the Turbo. Some people may prefer it as its probably the most drivable on a everyday basis, whilst still giving a decent amount of power. And Gemballa's, their body kits can be a bit over the top, but they can look quite nice.

Anyway, I would still choose the Carrera GT. Its one of the best sounding road cars imo, and looks great too.

Well the CGT is clearly in a different league than all of these. It is a balls to the wall supercar, and completly amazing. I'll take it.

But as for my favorite Porsche of all time, and possible favorite car ever in general, that would have to be the Porsche 917/30. It was a Can Am race car, and it tromped in every race it entered. It won the championship easily. Then again, the twin turbo V12 engine, producing 1500 hp certainly helped out there. Combined with Mark Donohue's amazing driving skills, it was unbeatable.

CGT forsure, that exhaust, and the looks, and crazy stupid light flywheel is just insane.

For the "regular" porsches, I'll easily take a GT3RS in Orange or Green please, that's my favorite car right now, and is the only semi-realistic one to own for me in the next few years.

Yellowbird comes in at 3rd, that car is bad a$$.

And the GT2's aren't too shabby either, but after just coming home from the porsche dealership and feeling tingly looking at the GT3 RS, that's the 911 to have for me.

But yeah, CGT because I wouldn't be able to pass on one, but realistically i'd take a GT3.

Oh my God, i should have never added the Carrera GT. I mean I know its the best but what a suprise that most people would vote for it :-s I would have liked to hear some more original ones. The GT3 RS i was suprised came in 2nd, but it is a great car. I could have sworn the GT2 was going to be 2nd.
But honestly, a true Porsche fan would not forget the great 917. It was the first overall Porsche winner for Le Mans. 0-60 in 2.5 and over 245 mph. Or if you fancy a road car, the 959.
Nostaligia aside the Carrera GT is just not impressive, its not a forerunner and its not even available in hardtop only. You also have a big engine putting out mildly impressive power. In my opinion I would rather a well engineered car or a forerunner to a mildly impressive supercar with a Porsche name badge. Everyone is too impressed because its a "supercar" and its a Porsche. Take away it being the only "supercar" looking supercar Porsche has thats not a race car and you get a mediocre car.
But thats my opinion, its still a bad a$$ car and it would find its way in my garage if I were rich. I just nit pick on the smallest details...

Do you know what makes the Porsche Carrera GT so special?
It's sweet V10. It's out of production which makes the fans love it even more. It's quite a bargain in my opinion. Around £330,000 it's quite a bargain. Its rivals are so much more expensive and some of them being slower, the SLR McLaren. It's the second fastest on the Nurburgring since Zonda F took the record for the fastest.

Where's the Cayman?

Slap a ricecooker on that puppy and you have the best Porsche ever made.I think the Cayman is one of the most beautiful shapes to come out of Germany since the old air cooled whale tail wide body... Throw a new 911 Turbo motor in it... boom... best car on the market...

I'll take a Porsche 911 Carrera 2.8 RSR if we're talking any Porsche...

...but of the options I'd like the GT3 RS, then the Yellowbird.

Edit: I had to correct the spelling in the title because I keep on seeing this thread and reading "Porsche Compassion" which continually confused the heck out of me :D

Torn between the RS, CGT and Yellowbird...

Argh... Such a hard decision.

I suppose I'd take the Carrera GT - offers the best of both worlds in comfort and performance, the GT3 RS is just too extreme to be a daily driver I reckon.

I would saw the Carrera GT would be the most difficult every day car, and the GT3RS would be the a little easier. But hey, that's just my take!

The logical choice for me is the GT2.
But since the CGT is so wild I had to go with it.
