View Full Version : Aston Martin versus Ferrari

Well, this one's been cookin' in the old crock pot for awhile now. And since I don't have class until SIX at NIGHT tomorrow, I'll do it tonight. (By the way, I'm laughing at you high schoolers)
The reason I came up with such a broad topic is because these two companies attract two different customers. And while yes, alot of owners of one has the other and they BOTH perform very closely in instrumented tests. But they have two verrrry different characters.
For Aston Martin I will simply state some agreed-upon views...
-Stately, Elegant, Stylish in both those ways...
-Fast, 007 stigma, usable...
-Prestige of ownership, "mature" owner-class stigma...
And for Ferrari some more agreed-upon views...
-One of the most famous names in cars, period.
-Racing trophies galore, passion to make men weak in the knees...
-Racing knowledge transferred to owners via their cars, prestige of ownership...
So, I don't care what cars you use to describe your allegiance, or your motives...
But I do want to start a discussion of why you prefer one company over the other...What emotions get to you and pull you in one direction?
For me: Aston Martin, in performance it's more than I'll likely EVER need. As for styling, at this current time their vehicles are arguably the best looking metal THINGS on the planet. And in my family I always looked up at what my parents liked and they were always big British car fans. Jaguar, Lotus, and of course, the king: Aston Martin...

well, this is a tough one. I think i will have to explain my point of veiw on both companies:
Ferrari is the color red. Plain and simple. If you say ferrari and dont think of fire red, you dont know cars. However, the color red can be interpureted diffrently. When i hear red, i hear the national anthem of italy. I picture the cobble stone alleys and thousand year old buildings. When i picture red, i picture a sparkling 550 maranello or 355 berlinetta. I hear the high pitched and obnxious yet intoxicating rasp from their exhausts. Ferrari, like the color red, is loud and soulful. It can represent evil or passion. Red is also sexy, like the curves of a 250 GTO. It's beauty and bertrayal all in the same package. Red will tempt you then stab you in the back if you dont treat it right. The color red reminds me of a robust wine. It takes a pro to get the most out of the color red and truely appreciate it's greatness. However, rich snobby rookies can also own the color red, yet they're time will come when they dont pay attention to the awe inspiring nature of the color red.
Aston martin, to me, isn't a color. It's an attitude. Aston screams "i'm better than thou". Normally, this would be a needlessly cocky remark. However, aston proves that it's better than you. You can't deny the fact. They're faster than you, better looking, better handling and more luxorious than anything else. They're big, bold, strong and handsome looking. If aston martin was a guy, he'd be the rich country club kid with long, slicked back black hair and devilishly good looks. The only difference from him and the real aston martin is that aston martin will kick your ass. They're silky smooth V-12s fire up with a powerful burp, but idles in a calm, comfortable and elegant manner. As you open the throttle you begin to feel it's muscles. Aston martins are beasts. Which is another reason they're better than you. The cabins are probably my favorite part. You wont find any carbon fiber bits and pieces, no dumb looking buttons and switches. It's refined to the core. They're cabins rival such luxo greats such as rolls royce or bentley. Again, they're better than you. I can't say aston martin is the definition of "british bulldog". Bull dogs are ugly and mean. Astons are strong and handsome and amazing and better than me and i love it.
So, to answer the question at hand, i'm going to go with............................both. It's an impossible decision. It's like choosing which one of your children you love more. You can't choose one over the other. I love both of them like a son. VIVA ITALIA!!!! LONG LIVE THE QUEEN!!!!

For me it is very easy, if you are looking at classics, then Ferrari would win, but at more modern cars, then Aston Martin for me, its just so much cooler "lets take the aston" and everyone loves an aston, not everyone loves a ferrari... and rightly so, the Aston says that you have taste, the ferrari just says you are a rich person with too much money  ok ok thats a bit rich, but I think you get where i'm coming from :P

I agree with everything Mopar said so for me it's a tie. It would be unfair to pick one of these two. I just love Aston Martins and Ferraris (alphabetical order :D ) .

you know, my father owns an old DB4, as you all might know. He also owns a 250 GTO and a 250 Tesstarossa. Both of them are really nice, but i like the aston martin better. It's just more rich boy looking, which i am. So obviously i want to drive a car that makes me look like one. My dad is going to buy me a DB9 and a 575m just to see which i like better.

Look at your sig, and all of your posts. I personally don't mind, but every post you've made has had that. I don't blame ya' considering the stuff you've got, but when I ask, "What Manufacturer do you like?"
And this is the VERY first thing you write :
we own both a 355 berlinitta and a db7 gt (as you all probably already know)
It would have been a little less "in your face" (I know you didn't mean it that way btw, and if you did, leave this site please)...If you had written which one you like, with a wrap up with, "Well, I believe this because I've had personal experience in..." 8)

if you read the ****ing rest of the post, thats how i base my conclusion that i like ferraris better, since i have experience in both of them, i can make a fair judgement
as for my sig.... i just posted the cars we have because that seem to be what alotta people post in sigs

dude... come on... you mention your precious AM or Ferrari or Porsche in nearly every post you make. I'm not trying to fan the flames of this argument... but if you don't want people to make fun of you, try not to mention cars that most people on these forums would give up a nut to drive as if they're your normal, everyday mode of transportation. We're car crazy here, and we get jealous easily... or at least I do.
And I seem to remember that you're pretty young, right? Have you driven either the Ferrari or the DB7?

Just understand nobody likes it when people flaunt stuff, and when you start answering questions with immediate references to what your family owns it makes me a little jealous. I'll be serious, I know of alot of rich kids around my county that have Supras, 300ZX's and three R34's and an R33. And none of them are self sufficient, so look, I personally don't have anything against you. But if you look at a laaaarge number of posts you've done, almost 150 of them likely have something in there about them.
Just be a little more understanding of us "paupers"...NOW, on the FLIP side, I'll likely own an R33 GT-R, NSX, or C6 in about 3 to 4 years. And my parents miiiight have a DB9, but that's up to whether or not they want a big house or a normal sized house in their old age. :P
And once again: ASTON MARTIN...

ohhhh... you got me there... I certainly am not a pimp. Anyways, Aston Martin for me. They will always seem so much more classy than a Ferrari (to me). I'm willing to sacrifice a little performance just to say 'I drive a DB9.' Also, I think Aston Martin is getting better and better (what with the Vanquish S and DBR-9) whereas Ferrari, while not necessarily going downhill, isn't really improving on their image (Enzo doesn't count... a car that ugly should only be used for racing).

Hmm it is difficult to choose.
I guess Ferrari would put up a smile on my face each and every time I drove it.
But Aston would make me feel clasy with it's elegance and styling.
I honesty can't choose. I don't think we should directly compare companies anyway. I love them both.

i only know one person's dad at my school with more cars than you, and he is a multi millionaire who used to own an oil rig, otherwise the rest of the rich kids mostly have porsches and ferraris (but only 1)
so sorry mate, but you are rich, i'm not getting at you, but you cant deny it, i consider myself lucky at the moment, i have a good home, a nice place to live, and a good school, and a small car, i know people on both sides of my situation, hell the poorer people would kill you for saying your not rich
anyways... returning to the topic in hand... Aston Martin :D vs Ferrari :?

Oct 09, 2004, 10:49 PM
yeah. I'd like to add a follow up question if it's ok with you ghalos. Why do you think the choice between ferrari and aston martin is so tough? And please, put it in your own words.

The Aston Martin has this certain feeling of being exclusive. Its basically setting yourself up to fit the James Bond character. The Vanquish has this certain feeling about it that the Ferrari just doesn't have. Getting a Ferrari is just like the gotta-have-it factor, while the car is amazing the manufacturer has a big influence on it. I think that I would mainly get the Ferrari to keep it in my garage and wipe it with a diaper and take it to exclusive parties on the weekends. The Aston Martin, however, would be my track car. I would take it out on the weekends or whenever I needed to relieve some stress and let loose. I could let the tail end swing out and rev all 12 cylinders to redline before up shifting and hitting the straight away. I would love to own both cars equally. The F430 is a piece of art and performance, while the Aston is like getting an invatation to the playboy mansion. Pure exhiliration.

why would the aston be your track car? I'd think the ferrari would be your track car. They seem like something that'd be more fun to throw around.

Aston Martin! The epitome of style!

Oct 11, 2004, 1:31 PM
Good follow up, track weapon would be the 360CS in particular of an F40...But regardless, the passion and heritage of Ferrari just screams "RACE!".
And the sounds and ferocious power of a mid-engined exotic instead of a "comfy" long range GT exotic...It just seems more racey than Aston Martin...
