I remember reading a while back about tuners in America putting Camaro engines in RX-7's. Needless to say I think thats a strange thing to do considering the heritage of both cars but i am interested. Has anyone known anyone or owned or heard anything about this? If this is a re-post of the same topic I apologize...

if your talking about the ls1 ive heard that conversion done before more than once i think its a great idea because personally i cant stand the noise the rotary engine makes and i would prefer a v8 anyday

Yeah, I was watching some program about drag racing (it was pretty crappy, it was sort of like Pinks, but wasn't as bad), and they had an RX7 with an LS1 in it. Ran mid 11's.

Not quite sure about camaro engines since I, so far, only heard about LS1 and LS2 swaps.
Those LS1 and LS2 engines are relativcely light meaning that when replacing the 13B with turbo and peripherals you hardly gain weight.
This weight gain is an important aspect since the 13B offers a 50/50 weight distribution, which is one of the pleasant things about RX7's.
Personally I'd stick with a rotary engine any day. Maybe swap to a 20B somewhere in the future.
At the moment I don't have $6000 to spend on a 20B engine so I'll stick with my 13B.
A swap from 13B turbo to LS2 makes you gain about 50 lbs as far as I heard from a few people performing such a feat.

I've heard/seen many LS1 swaps in RX-7's and I think it's badass as hell.

I remember in the previous year San Jose Grand Prix, there were RX-7s drifting. I quickly noticed that all of them were running loud-as-hell V8s.
Sure, they sounded awsome, but the tradition of the rotary engine (IMO) shouldn't be killed like that. It doesn't change the fact that it still has that good weight distribution, as the solitaire said.....

I know a guy that has an LS1 in a second gen RX-7. And I've seen another second gen with an LS1 on the local seen around here. So, if kids are doing it in Minneapolis, it has been done for many, many years elsewhere.

NOOOO!!!! I hate this world now! All these nice imports having ls motors in them! First was a friends supra wanting to put an ls in it, then a 300zx in sportscompactcar mag with an ls and now this!! It's like, when all fails, go LS. No! A 300zx has a vq, stick with that! An rx-7 has a rotary, stick with that! A camaro has an LS, stick with that !!!! Oh well, what ever makes the guy happy.

MY GOD YOU'RE RIGHT! It's almost like the LS1 is a better engine then their original engines! Quick, run and tell the world, RUN I SAY! RUNNNNNN!!!!!!!!
A guy I know put a Ford 302 into his FC RX-7. He had to redo a buncha mounting points and change some tubing around. It makes pretty good power though. I asked him why he didn't just swap in a LS1, and he just kinda walked away because I'm pretty sure he damn well knows how much easier it woulda been.

Easier? A buddy of mine is right now, at this very moment swapping in a 302 into a FC RX7. Less than 2 miles away in fact.
The Ford swap has its easier points. One being Distributor location. The firewall had to be beat in to allow for the motor to fit. Imagine if it had a distributor on the back towards the upper firewall......
The 302 is also significantly lighter.
Either engine in an FC would be deadly quick, but truth be told, the "Easier" swap, is the 302 into most RX7's/240/260/280Z's.

Huh, that's strange. I guess the guy I was talkin about just wasn't that good at putting engines into other cars.
