Yay, more Hot Hatches...But this one at least has alot of choice...BUT..Out of that list, we American's only get one of them, which may explain my inate distaste for them.
And the one we get?? The 30 THOUSAND dollar R32, the same price as an EVO or STi...
We also get the Civic Type R as the RSX-S, and I've heard rumors of the S3 coming stateside.
But really, I don't care, I actually like the Focus RS's looks. It's got very, very impressive performance. It's got my Blue Oval and on top of all of that, I simply cannot have it...Which makes it too nice to pass up.
In a verrrry close second place is the Alfa 147 GTA, everything I've read about it says it spins the inside front tire like there's no tomorrow under hard cornering. But having that engine, with that tranny, in a body like that and an interior so chic and stylish...Woohoo!!! :P

From that list the R32 for sure, but ideally I would choose the Nissan Pulsar GTiR, even though its over 10 years old, it had 4WD, 300bhp, and out accelerate any half decent Porsche 8)

Focus RS. It has good looks, some of the best Ford has produced recently, and I've heard a lot about the performance and handling. I would buy it if I was in the market for a hatch.

1) R32
2) Astra
3) Cupra
Tough decision, they're all great cars.

I'm gunna go with the R32 and the S3 Quattro because of their AWD. Could come in handy in some snowy weather, not to mention some fun rally impersonating action. I mean if romping arounda snowy parking lot is fun in an Audi 80 Quattro(my friend's brother took me on one a wild ride :P ) then I would imagine that the experience is magnified 10 fold with cars like the S3 and R32.

The Pulsar GTiR is the ulitmate hot hatch\sleeper car. Its got the same engine as the Silvia.
There's quite a few around the place i live in
Back to the topic.
I'll go for the S3 - Reason being i'm an Audi fan and I like AWD + Turbo hatches. Cant wait for the new one to come out

tough choices  geez. ahm, I admire the Alfa to a great extent because of the fact that it is a functional peice of automotive art. The Focus RS is really sharp edged and has performance as a #1 priority. The Civic Type-R is classic hyper hatchback that just needs a little more power. Hmmmm, this is the hardest choice I've had to make. I wanna say Alfa 147, but I won't. It's Civic Type-R for me. just needs some Mugen loving and a super/turbo charger.

I had a hard time choosing between the RS, the GTA and the S3. I finally choose the S3.
It has great performance, killer looks, AWD, and a great deal of class and luxury so it's a complete offer. It also used to be a dream for me when I was younger so I can't resist it.
A better combination would be the chassis of the RS, with the engine of the Alfa and the AWD of the S3.

R32 without a doubt. It's certainly the most polished performer overall and not to mention chunky looks which look absolutely awesome! Second has to go to the Astra, because of it's wonderful engine.
BTW, the GTiR is still one of the fastest hot hatches, even though it is getting a bit long in the tooth by now. The SR20DET is shared with the 200SX/Silvia/240SX and has the ATTESA ET-S AWD system from the GT-R. Which basically garantuees it a place in the hottest of hot hatches category. I wouldn't be suprised if a GTiR shames at least one or two of these more modern cars.

I like the R32 but its so expensive :( So with that in mind i pick the alfa 147 GTA. it's got great performance specs, great looks, fastest 0-62 time of the lot and that engine bay 8)

1) R32
2)S3
3)RS

The Focus killed off everything with its Chassis in 1998, and the fact that it has some of the best Chassis engineers in the Business. Also, everyone is still playing catch up to the 1st Focus in handling.

hatchbacks are for *** ricers, and these one's were comparing here are just damn hideous
First off, please stop swearing so much here, the constant "gay" and "***" references I can deal with for awhile. But that many is waaay too much.
Also, before you start b*tching about how hatchbacks suck, look at the way they perform. They're sporting fun with unquestionable daily usability. As for the hideous aspect, the 147 is gorgeous in the eyes of lots of people worldwide, the Focus RS, and R32 are both understated and aggressive at once.
So while you and I both agree that hatchbacks are somewhat boring and "ho-hum", try to at least respond with less retarded generalizations like "hatchbacks are for *** ricers" because I own one, and I am definitely not a "ricer". And hatches tend to be peoples first cars because they're inexpensive, and in the cars here, alot of fun. 8)

I agree. Not many of us can afford ferraris and aston martins and super extreme gembella cayennes. We want an equal amount of fun with practicality and in a sane price range. Hatchback such as these mentioned provide it for the common man. They may not be my favorite kind of car either. Personally, i'd like to see all of these cars in sedan versions. But hatchbacks are just hot right now. Hence the topic title.
(BTW: with a signature like yours ckg690, you dont have any room what so ever to call anything or anyone a "***")
Maserati Man
Oct 09, 2004, 1:52 AM
i was kidding about what i said earlier but hatchbacks can be nice cars. you dont always need the fastest car either. when you get in your car to go somewhere in town, you dont plan on racing there, so why do you need a race car. besides, how i look at hatchbacks is that they are a scaled down suvs for the more poorer of us. you have an suv, if it was 1/2 the size and 2 doors with a not so extreme engine, it would be a hatchback too. hypocrit. (not really but ive never seen a riced hatchback except for the honda si and personally i like hatchbacks so i dont see how you dont. open up your mind a little and live outside the ferrari dude)

sorry, i was really generalizing, its just the only hatchbacks i've ever seen are honda civics, ford focuses, and volkswagen golfs, which half of all of those end up being 'riced' and i am very very very very very very very very very very very very very much against ricers, i've never actually seen or some heard of some of the hatchbacks, the only ones we get here in the u.s. are the r32 and s3(maybe?)

For once i think you are wrong, i'm ford bias i know, but i really dig the alfa style + interior + engine sound, but the Focus Standard is GREAT, awesome platform, great grip, and it has the best road feel of any compact avalalble now bar Mazda3 (which is based on 2nd gen focus).
The RS shares basic suspnsion geometry with the WRC car, and that is great, it's the IMHO best handling FWD car now, and maybe ever. Previous great handling fwd cars in my opinion have been Fiat Coupe Turbo, Ford Racing Puma, Alfa 145 Cloverleaf.
I had a hard time choosing between the RS, the GTA and the S3. I finally choose the S3.
It has great performance, killer looks, AWD, and a great deal of class and luxury so it's a complete offer. It also used to be a dream for me when I was younger so I can't resist it.
