Golft GTi. Every comparable attribute is better IMO.

GTi also, it's just a classier, easier more refined car. More of the "adult" sport compact. Just a quick question, my mind is a little slow tonight, the GTi is FWD, because I know of lots of AWD VW's.

exactly what i thought.
and ghalos they are both FWD i just checked them but the gti i would assume has good handling because my parents passat has really good handling and the gti is another vw.

I'm going with the 1.8t because I love that engine and it has worked well for VW over the years. Now they even have it making 100hp/per liter! Great engine, to bad its being replaced soon, right?

ya... with a 2 liter 200 hp engine. still 100 hp per liter only better.

Not a fan of that dash mounted one eh?
Me neither, it's neat, but not for me.

The shift knob is supposed to make the shift action faster, but IMO it just looks like the gear knob of some japanese people mover.

The only civic that i like is the previous 1.6 VTI and the type R

Personaly I own the Civic 1.6 V-Tec and I wish to buy Type-R and I don't like the Si but still I vote for it just because it's Honda.

the shifeter on the Civic Si is a performance designed component. watch some rallye coverage and telll me where the shifter is when they switch to the cockpick camera. the shifter is right there and you ahve much better control.
Onwards! This is a really rough choice for myself. Both these cars are highly desirable and somewhat attainable. I'm gonna modify both of them slightly to the level at which i would tune them.

The downfall of the Civic would come from it's lack of the 200-hp engine and 6-speed transmission both found in its wicked twin, the Type-R. The painfully small wheels are slight blow as well. So, to remedy those ailments, the first step would be to JDM the hell outta that sucker. K20A engine, DC5R transmission, and a storm of Mugen pieces. Slap on some alrger wheels and upgrade the brakes with RSX stock ones and you'd have an Type-R beating Si. This is under $15,000 worth of upgrades and gets you 0-60 in under 6 seconds and through the quarter mile in the low 14's.

On the VW side of things, it's a little better in stock configuration. What it calls for is the 6-speed tranny(whcih is normally only on VR6 and the anniversery GTi models), and a wicked sweet Super K04 turbo upgrade from Neuspeed. A brake kit from Abt would serve it well and some minor supension upgrades are nessicary. So for under 5 grand you get a really fast GTi that still has improved control elements.
Ther'es no doubt the Civic has much better handling and the engine would be much more relaible, but it's gonna cost you more to get it moving anywhere nearly as fast as the GTi. If your wallets in a crunch, go for the slightly fatter, more easily speed injected VW, but the Honda has better pure potential. (didn't even mention the Jackson Racing supercharger kit that would throw the Si's numbers over 330 hp at the crank{Super K04 kit gets the GTi about 265 hp at the crank})
if money's no question, Si.
if I'm on a budget, GTi.

GTi for me b/c its faster, I hate the shift knob also on the Si, and the Si is considered in my area to be a rice car everyone I see w/ one thinks its the fastest thing on earth by reving their engine at stop lights and just doing stupid stuff like that

Same here exactly...
Another alternative is to wait for the new GTi (V). Now that will be a good car.
