I'm guessin' you want 2003 SVT and 2000 SS??

In that case I don't think a case can even be made in defense of the SS, it's just over powered in all racing critical areas, braking, slalom, etc... It's cheaper yes, but which is still in production??

BTW, I see you live in Albany NY, that's about an hour and a half north of where I live. I go there all the time, family and friends live up there/ go to college there.
Either way, welcome to SCF! 8)

well, if we r gonna talk about camaro's and cobra's, then lets talk about the best models of both. the ss is a special edition where around 8000 were made, and there were about 300 cobra r's made. the cobra will beat all production muscle cars except for the Z06. the cobra r has a 0-60 of about 4.4, 1/4 mile in the high 12's and a top speed of 170. Engine specs are a 5.4L V8, 385 hp 385 lbs/torque. It is a production race car. The SS cant really compare to that, unless u look to the price, the cobra r is $54,000.

and the cobra r was only made in 2000, and neither of them r still in production

True, the Cobra R is basically a race car. I'd still take it despite the price, even over a Z06, simply due to it's rarity. It's only in red too if I'm not mistaken. The SS was only different from the Z28 due to its exhaust and that just gave it about 10 horsepower more. (I believe...) 8)

When you make a comparison, ALWAYS post specs and pics of the cars.

This had been done many times before.

Yeah, but the previous one has been locked, so I'll leave this open for now.

SS for me, the cobra does have better performance (unless we're talking the older cobra), but the SS is just so much more in my eyes. Some guy down the street turned his '00 SS (or is attempting to) into a track car... real nice IMO

SS I just love Caramos. Much better stock than a stock Mustang. I'll stick with my old friend even when the chips are down and it is outclassed in some areas.

Camaro is my choice. The 02 SS was far faster than the 01 Cobra. Also, I love the styling of all Camaros, especially the 60s and mid 90s.

I just have a part of me that will forever love the Camaro, all the models even the 70s ones. I'm sure people feel that way about the Mustang as well.

Guys, he said we're talking about the '02 SS and '00 Cobra R

And once again, the SS is simply outclassed compared to the R.

i love camaros too thats my vote. i could care less if the cobra was faster i hate the front end and i dont like the current mustangs either. now the '05 'stangs is a totally different story. i cant wait for those.

I like the mustang body's more than a camaro, cause a camaro just looks like a big oval. Yes, the SS's are nice, but they r too plain and i would rather go with the cobra r. The cobra R looks so mean with that front bumper, spoiler and its side exit exhaust. I think that the mustang would be a little more intimadting, when it rolls up next to you and the front wheels lift off the ground.

Ditto, even if this were SVT versus SS, I'd take the 'stang due to it's massive power and lower body style. 8)

An '01 cobra is as fast as an '00 ss. in fact, the cobra comes off the line harder (thanks to its IRS) and is ahead of the ss until it hits 3rd gear and the ss will catch up. If you look up the specs on both cars, they each have 320hp, and a 1/4 mile time of around 13.5-13.8 @105-107. Being an owner of both cars, Id go with the cobra.

Am I the only one here who know's we are comparing the COBRA R, to the SS?!!!

Not the 2003 SVT Cobra, or 2001, or whatnot...Try to focus on this pleeease... 8)

I know that the SS is outclassed by the R, but my passion for Camaros influenced my decision and thats why I posted that other stuff.

And on a side note:
Were there ever any plans or even ideas for an SS type R or something like that?

EDIT: You should probably change the poll option from simply "Cobra" to "Cobra R". That way people will stop talking about other older models... Just a thought...

OH... cobra R? i change my mind. :) BUT.. i think it's unfair to compare the cobra R to a camaro SS, as it's not exactly a purpose built track-car like the cobra, would be a little more fair to compare the cobra R to the '01 Z06
