Is anyone going to be brave enough to tell us their results?

Did you do well enough to get in to do Biochemistry PancakeBoy? Where have you applied to? Sorry if I sound nosy but I am interested in Biochemistry and related matters, as you may know.

What is everybody studying?

Whenever I did well at something at School they always said we can't possibly post the results up for everyone to see, and when I did badly they insisted on posting the results around the entire School and even getting on the loud-speaker to announce my results. I have never really minded other people knowing my results though. I think that a lot of exams are down to ability as much as hard-work, and you can't change who you are. The main thing is to have had the opportunity and to have done your best. As George S. Patton said "If a man does his best, what else is there?".

I got:

General Studies: B
Psychology: B
Media Studies: D
Business Studies: D
Philosophy: D

They aren't brill, but there only my AS-level results. I wasn't working as hard as I could have, so I'm gona work my arse off for A-levels next year. I'm sitting maths next year too, so I can take engineering at Uni.

You did very well then. Did you expect to do a bit better in Chemistry? If you want to study Biochemistry you will have to do a lot of Chemistry. What exam board did you study for Chemistry? Also what University are you going to? You don't have to answer if you think I am being too nosy. I am just interested to hear. I don't want to be negative but Biochemistry can be a very hard subject if you are not very good in Chemistry. What career are you thinking of doing, or have you not thought about that yet?

Ouch, I did crap. I didn't try at all this year, hardly revised; it wasn't what I wanted to do, but I still did my exams so that I wasn't totally wasting my time. I wanted to be an engineer, and I now am, so that's all I care about. I can comfortably laugh at my results...

I got:
E in Chemistry (was predicted a D)
D in General Studies (was predicted an A or B)
D in PE (was predicted a C or B)
E in ICT (was predicted a D)
I got quite a few U's, too, I've just put my 'best' (:o) results down.

I'm sure with proper revision and hard working I could'a got them, but it was useless as I wasn't staying on, anyway.

The grade boundaries are so high, it's crap... I got 59% in P.E. yet only get a D? What the hell... Is an A 95% or something?! lol

I expected AAB, however the chemsitry paper was kinda weird, everyone that took the test thought that the paper asked about calculations that we had not learnt about. Half way through the course the college switched from AQA to OCR. I managed a high B in As chemsitry but wasnt able to maintain it to the end. I personally liked the way AQA worded there questions better.

I think you are lucky that you don't attend my old School because they would have probably not let me take the exams if they thought I was going to get the grades you got. I am not having a dig at you, I am just telling you how it is. If you went to a FE college though they are sometimes more relaxed about grades, although the one I attended has been getting rather 'snooty' about the whole issue lately.

I was wondering how many AS subjects you took. Is it normal to take over four AS levels? Anyway the main thing is to get what you want out of life and enjoy yourself while you are alive. Good luck with the engineering apprenticeship because the 'academic' route is not always the best route to take in life. I think that as long as you can accept the result and move on then that is the main thing. The worse thing you can do is become bitter and regretful about what could have been.

Came back from orientation at school. 7th period... I have Algerbra 1 9th grade math and I will get two high school credits through the year if I at least make over a D+. I'm pretty happy about it but, my post count will go whey down. I'll probably oly be on the foums early in the morning or on the weekend after this week.

Can you guys explain the grading system over there to us Americans?

And if this is a report card, many of you are terrible if an A is great a B is good a C is average, a D is passing, and so on.

Psht, and I thought I was having a bad year with a B in my Advanced Algebra class.

In the SATS curriculum (from when you're 5-6 years old until you're 10-11 years old, called Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 - primary school), it goes:
Level 1
Level 2
Level 3
Level 4
Level 5
Level 6
Level 7
Level 8

In the GCSE curriculum (from when you're 11-12 to 15-16, called Year 7, Year 8, Year 9, Year 10 and Year 11 - secondary school), it goes:
A*
A
B
C
D
E
F
G
U (stands for ungraded)

In the A-Level curriculum [it's not compulsory, you choose whether to stay on or not] (from when you're 16-17 until you're 17-18, called Year 12 and Year 13, or Lower Sixth and Upper Sixth - 'further education' or Sixth Form), the grades consist of:
A
B
C
D
E
U (again, counts for ungraded)

Canadian:
from kindergarten to grade 6 - you get marks in grades(letters A,B,C and more)
and after grade 6... you get them in percentage...
High School
our requirements for OSSD(Ontario Secondary School Diploma)(only for those in Ontario)
-you gotta get 40 hours of volunteering work
-you gotta get 32 credits - each course you pass(except some) you get one credit
-some courses, you get .5 credit
-most of the schools are semestered and have 4 subjects in one semester *one semester is about 4 to 5 months

until i find more.. or you people tell me more - i'll edit the post...

The college I go to the maximum is four. The college in sunderland, apparently where I live, you can take up to 6. Needless to say, some peoples grades from there are terrible.

I only really put enough effort into my work to get a pass. I could have probably got A's and B's across the board, but I didn't have a good enough reason for motivation. My main focus is finished my A levels, and getting into Uni, for that auto engineer course. The only thing I don't like about my grades is that they don't look all that good on my CV.

Actually I'm still looking for a place that does autop engineering appreticeships, but I haven't passed my test yet, so I can't travel all that far. This is a back up plan if I don't get into Uni.

how did that happen, did you do it in crayon.

I don't understand U's, how can they say unmarkable, the paper is clealy on front of you, and unless it is in crayon, your job is to add ticks or crosses, even if it was a low mark, it can clearly be marked.
A U sounds to me like the exiamaner couldn't be bothered to get of his fat ass and mark, for all you know it could of been an A*

It means ungraded, not unmarked. I got a U in moral philosophy, all it means is I didn't even reach the lowest standard of grade. It doesn't mean unmarkable, that would just be silly lol.

^ It's when you get below 40% in A-level... The marks are as follows:

~39 - U
40% - E
50% - D
60% - C
70% - B
80% - A

As you can see, the grade boundaries are stupidly high. 60% for a C? Damn, I got 59.4% in P.E! :( Another 0.1% would'a been enough for a C, doh!

You have to be careful not to confuse UMS scores with percentages Frewin. I got 96/105 before in Biology and that would be 91%. However it isn't 91%. The UMS is adjusted according to how other people who are sitting the exam do. If you have a very hard paper then a low percentage can be enough to get an A grade. I don't know of any exams where percentages are used and not UMS marks but correct me if I am wrong.

Yeah, i have my one GCSE of the year coming on thursday, i hoping to get an A*

We had a practice one, which our teacher combined the results of with our coursework, to give us an idea of what we would of got, if it where the real exam.
So when she said A*, i was raging, the only A* ever, and it was the practice. But i hoping to do well, even though i hate math.
