some very bad news for SAAB or Opel

STOCKHOLM, Sept 2 (AFP) - US auto giant General Motors has decided to shut down one of its two mid-size car-making plants in Europe next year, a decision that could force its subsidiary Saab to close operations in Sweden and slash 6,300 jobs, the Swedish metalworkers' union said on Thursday.
"During the first quarter next year, General Motors will decide which place is the company's future for the production of mid-size cars. There are two possible solutions. One is Trollhaettan (in southwestern Sweden, just north of Gothenberg). The other is Russelsheim in Germany," the union wrote in a statement.
About 6,300 people work in the Saab factory in Trollhaettan, while approximately 5,600 people work at GM-subsidiary Opel's factory in Russelsheim, according to Swedish news agency TT.
"It is important that all of us inside Saab Automobile help to create a powerful competitive alternative that will allow Trollhaettan to ... continue activities," the Swedish metalworkers' union along with two other unions SIF and CF and Saab management wrote in a common statement.
If GM does choose to produce its cars in Trollhaettan, the Saab factory there could see an increase in production by about 300,000 cars each year, according to the Swedish metalworkers' union.

HAHA its happening!! I knew it, GM is killing off Saab, soon Saab will be a minority sales in europe, all sales are already being directed to the US, all the 9-X models go there, not europe, the end is coming for SAAB in europe!!
It was going to happen, but this is sooner than I thought!

and GM are nott gone close SAAB the company.
They are maybe gone close the swedish factory. but if they are closing the factory then GM will start production of the new SAAB car at the Subaru factory

hey, its an S not a C :!:
it wasnt a laughing haha thats funny because people lose jobs, its a haha because I already knew it would happen soon.
I know GM are not closing Saab, they dont do that, what they will do is use Saab like an oil well, use it, find better ways to make more money, and when it dries up, they will sell it on to the highest bidder (if you get my meaning).
I seriously doubt that Saabs will ever be made in one of the many FHI factories, more likely in an Opel factory (as many Saab parts already do come from Opel cars).
My other point was, what is GM doing to Saab, selling the new 9-2X and the 9-7X only in the US, plus it is making the new 9-3 and 9-5 for the US (Europe and rest of world are off shoots of the US spec in the new design phase).

I dont mean to be obstinate, but the process is starting, I dont expect anyone else to believe, or to follow what I say, just bear it in mind :!:

now i'll shut up and go hide somewhere :P

yup, how else do you think the 9-2X and 9-7X get their engines and power trains, chassis and overall design features... Subaru :?

Actually, the 9-7X derives from the Chevy Trailblazer, not a Subaru...

that is so true, I was making a guess on that one, for I knew that the 9-2X is a down-tuned WRX estate with a saab style package on the front... :D
