iDrive is optional in the 3 Series, like the 1 Series, and I'm sure I've already made a topic abou the leaking of the E90 3 Series.

Admist all these not-as-good looking cars
BMW are making record profits.
They make good cars, just that the styling has gone a bit hay-wire
what engine would the M3 use?
(hopefully this question hasnt been asked already)
if its been asked, sorry

BMW aren't using a V6, they will use the NG6, which is a straight-six with a magnesium block.
The new M3 will be using a brand-new 4.0L V8.
I personally love the new styling as with most new BMW's.

It's a mistake in first post BMW is using straight 6s not V6s. As MTechnik said.

i guess the design "grows" on you. The more you look at it, the better it becomes.
But IMO its still no beauty. Maybe except the new M5.. =P~
Ghalos
Aug 24, 2004, 9:37 AM
Yeah, i gotta agree, most of Bangle's styles were crazy at first and grew on me, but the 6 series rear is just plain ugly, the front looks like a Chrysler Concorde, hell, the whole thing does, it's not any better in person either, and IMO those 3 series pics are goin' down the same road...which is a shame really, the 3 series is a benchmark car in popularity...Looks count in that contest so we will see how it sells...

I have already made a comment about the new 3 series. In a way i was kinda prepared for a radical change of looks. It was obvious the e46 would be bangled. So the e90 looks ok for me except the taillights. hey but everyone forgot that pics remain pics because when you'll see the car right up in front of you you'll get another opinion about it. About the new M3 i think it will be a monster of a car for sure. I can sense the new V8 with a high rev concept (as to stay true to the M breed) with a liittle more torque then hp. I heard of 400hp. but a guy from the dealership said that it will be way over 400hp. hmmm? i think that 400 hp will be the exact figure. And yeah i'm curious if it would beat the M5 from 0 to 62mph. as it happened in the past (5.2 M3 and 5.3 M5)

This car shouldn't even be released yet, it is still at least a year from the 'official' release of the E90, so therefore, naturally, the M3 should be about half to a year after the E90, so you'll see official pics until late next year/early 2006.

What fins are you talking about? Side ones? Those , i think, are particulary made for looks and for aerodynamics. Or for the one on the top end? I think that comes from the idrive or gps. Anyway if you're talking about those lines from each side...i like them alot, it gives a unique shape and character. And looks awesome overall.

Remember the days when the 3s used to look agressive? The car doesn't have that appearance anymore. It used to be one of those little bad boyz on the street. Now the 3 series just went "metrosexual" on us, for lack of a better word. In other words, I dont like it. The only good thing is that they made the i-drive optional, because its useless.
TYRONN7
Aug 27, 2004, 7:27 PM
Yeah. Maybe so. Maybe youre right about it. But well sometimes it had to be done or it was just a matter of time.I agree about the i drive. BUT at least BMW stands as a bmw through the engines they produce. So i think that with a little help of ext modifications you can still make it look like a beast. Wait for the new M3 to show up and then we'll talk about agressive stuff.

Malin, in answer to your question do you mean the conventional row-your-own stick shift? or the SMG?
Anyways, it took me a day or so to notice the major problem with this cars butt problems. Its tailights are identical to Hyundai's Elantra, along with the trunk, and bumper.
I hope this thing changes BIG time before it's introduced.

Well excuse me if i went out of line there but i told you what i think, i think it became alot of fuss about that tiny fin bangle put on the 3 series. Not even sure if all the stock 3 series will come with such a fin. AND even so if you dislike it so much and put so much accent on minor details like this, then you can always throw it off. It doesn't need to go so far back in the past and to relate to other cars that were equipped with fins. For me the past was the past, i live in the present and i don't care too much about a huge fin or ....whatever that is, jaguar put on their car 50 years ago. If it were so damn good all cars would have sky high fins.
BTW: no offense i still consider that car "crappy" no matter the performance, i don't quite like classics (maybe the shelby is an exception).

Ok. So overall the new 3 series i think will be a better car. It must be. I like the new specific output of the new 3 liter engine. I am so damn curious what will be the output of the new M3 and how much could it compete with the already super M5. I mean to keep all the credential the new M3 would have to beat the M5 from 0 to 100km/h, and that could be quite difficult since it would have to go under 4.7 seconds. The old M5 had "only" 57 hp more but alot more torque and did it in 5.3. So......

The new E90 M3 will have a 400hp 4.0L V8. And I don't think the M3 should beat the M5 to the 0-100km/h benchmark, since the M5 is the flagship of the M range, and should keep a reputation of the fastest M car. My guess is that the E90 M3 will go about 4.9sec, roughly the same time as the E46 M3 CSL. But I'm sure the M5 does faster than 4.7sec. BMW always put out fairly conservative performance times, so I won't be suprised if it can get 4.5's. Then the E90 should cover it with a 4.7sec, with the M2 goin low 5's or high 4's.

I don't like the new 3 Series, not because it's a bad design, but because it doesn't look like a BMW. It's way too japanese for my taste. I rather go with the old E36 or the the E46.
If it were'nt for the grill, I'd look like a Mitsubishi Lancer.
And I have to agree with you guys, they should hide thatr "fin" somewhere its hideous. I was at the local BMW dealer and there were a couple of 5's, Compacts, and 7's. It trully looks like hell.
But, in he other hand, performance is great. HP, Torque, and everything refered to the engine and drive train (6speed). Beneath the skin it still reamins a true BMW.

That's what's important for me, and btw I could cope with the styling, I don't find it bad.
