I have good friends in bike shops in both areas...but you don't really strike me as the hard core biker type.
Search a product called Killer Glass. The owner used to do suspensions on IRL and F1 cars. He works with Gangsta Choppers now. He would be the one to ask about performance goodies in the LA area.
PM me, if you end up wanting contact information for him

If you're in the bay area and dont mind a 3 hour one way drive (Depending on how you drive) you can go to Summit in Sparks, NV.
There is also a cool store called Tognottis located in Sacramento that has an enormous amount of sales floor with pretty much any product you'd ever desire. They have some cool displays too. Sacramento is a 1 hour + drive from SF. Where in the Bay are you going to be at? If you have time, hit up Sacramento Raceway on a Wednesday night, or a Saturday from I think 8am to 3pm. Saturday is Test-N-Tune and you will see alot of the big players in the Sacramento area dialing their cars in, Wednesday night is the Fun Drags. That would give you an idea of the street scene.
If you want to see some cool stuff in San Francisco, and you have a lady friend. Go to the Embarcadero, and play around on Fishermans Warf. Stay down there until its dark and you will see some mind boggling street performers.
Go to Ghiradelli Square too. Ladies love that. :)
Then there is the RainForest Cafe. You sit in a jungle full of animated creatures, and enormous fishtanks while you eat. Try to get there when there is no apparent line. There is also Ripleys Believe it or Not right down the street from there. As well as the Wax Museum.
All in all you should have some damn good times out here.
Do you surf or bodyboard? If you do hitting the beaches in San Diego is a must. It takes about an hour to get to SD from LA. I recommend Tamarack for beggining surfers, and Ocean Beach for more advanced riders. Thats when you're there early AM and there's good sets anyways.
Also check out the Gas Lamp District in San Diego. I walked through there once and stopped off at a Club, the chili peppers were playing. Just like some random club I cant remember the name of (Across from the roller coaster on the walk though).
Tons of stuff to do man. ;) :D

Yeah the little one loves that place, food isnt bad either.
The coolest thing about San Francisco is the night life. On top of seeing all sorts of freaks (if you go to the far end of the Embarcadero lol), and street performers. The Break Dancers are unbelievably good, and there is a guy who using nothing but spray paint and a straight knife makes some of the most elaborate (not to mention cool)pictures you would ever see. I know, I have a few of his pictures.

Im taking photography now in college for some extra credits and i have the most kick-ass black and white photo of one of thoose breakdancing dudes in a mid-air backflip. It landed me an A, haha. yeah the guy with the spraypaint is cool too, unfortuantly since thats been getting big there have been a few imitatiors who cheat with stencils....anyways i work near there and get to see it often.

--side note--How in the hell do you afford to live in Cali?? From my perspective, you have to be on the verge of loaded to live there! Fixing violins and being a Musician just doesn't cut it, I suppose. Ah, at least I do what I love.
God bless VA and cheap Real Estate!
...Oh, have a fun trip, jjo! Why are you not taking the SRT? Exhaust too boomy for a long roadtrip?? :D Seriously, have a good time. The West Coast is a place I've wanted to visit for as long as I can remember. Never have, being that I'm on the other side of the country, but I'd love to visit some day.

Well if you're like my dad who works at UC Bectyl (I think that's how it's spelled), then you can afford to live in a nice home that costs at least $750,000.
I'm guessing during your trip from NorCal to SoCal, you might not even pass through the East Bay (unless you get on I-580) which is where I live. I'm like the only member here that lives in the eastern (more like mideast) area of California.

I was born in CA have lived here most of my adult life. Northern CA is MUCH different than SO CAL. This is where everybody retires after making their fortunes in SO CAL. As for property value...I like it being high. I work in land development and construction, and my lady is a realtor. The higher the property value, the more toys I can afford:D
