There are a lot of cars that were great in their time but have since been forgotten. Great cars like the Mangusta, and the Studebaker Avanti. I thought that we should post some that have been forgotten like the Oldsmobile Aerotech, Mercedes-Benz W125 record and the Ferrari Mythos and why they should be remembered.

The American and the Fezza were concepts but made such an impact and should be remembered. The Oldsmobile was supposed to have done 278mph. The Merc... 1930s and faster than a Mclaren F1 and a Fiat Panda put together. 268mph until the chasis ripped taking the driver. It could have done up to 300mph maybe why not. Can any one think of any more?

Jaguar's C-Type racer, the first car ever to use disc brakes... which in turn bought lap times down hugely, due to the far increased braking distances/times. this car really seems to have been forgotten.

also supercars like the XJ220 and Ferrari F50; they aren't talked about much nowadays, either, although they were some of the wildest, fastest and most wished-for, exotic cars of their time; the XJ220 was one of the first real supercars of which are as fast as some of today's top-notch supercars. madness.

also, don't forget cars like the Golf MKI GTI which bought performance to the masses a a price...

if you ask me, the D-type was more of a legend,
I even wrote an article on it, and the C-type
the d-type was a legend thanks to Ecurie Ecosse, a racing team who took 5 d-types to the top 6 postions, an amazing win if you ask me.

Nice to see some peeps appreciate cars invented in a previous millenium.

Lambo Jalpa and Silhouette were both evolutions of the Urraco; an example of which a poster a year or 2 ago was restoring. Take note: the Urraco (debuted at Turin in 1970/first sold in 1973) was a welded steel monocoque; a technology Ferrari did not use on a production car before the 360.

The 1949 Crosley Hotshot used 4-wheel spot disc brakes.

Please don't post pics of McLaren F1s w/doors & covers open! It looks like a beetle just before it flies away!

PS. I once saw 1 pic of a prototype DeTomaso small, 1.6L, MR sports car. I have failed to find any further info.

I think some of the greatest cars that were huge in their day and are now only seen on auction blocks or museums are the cars that Harley Earl created in his hay day.

One such group of cars I will mention, even though there are numerous from the LeSabre Dream to the original Vette, are the turbine powered Firebird Series.

1. the Mclaren F1, geez, I cant believe its been forgotten now, it was the fastest set of wheels back in the 90's and its irresistable looks are definitely worthy of remembering...

2. the ford mustang SVT cobra, that was a really good car, unfortunately ford isnt currently working on a new one, becuase I'd love to see a new SVT cobra come out... that really is a good car and one of my favourites.

Man, that was looking so promising. A 4.6 litre V8, relatively low weight, a good top end and good accelration, and lightweight aswell, and great looks, then what did Rover/MG have to do, go and get bust as soon as they were gonna release a V8 coupe. :(

Shelby GT350/500. I don't know the difference.Just the engine options, I think. The GT500 always used big blocks, and the GT350 was using small blocks.
From 65 to 68 the GT350 came with a Ford 289 rated at 306 HP, in 69-70 it came with a 351 rated at 280 HP. The GT500 came with a 428 rated at 340 HP, and an optional 427 officially rated at over 400 HP.

Oh ok thanks. Another is the tatra T603. For those of you who do not know, it was made in Czechslovaki in the 50s, 60s and 70s under Communist Soviet rule. The interesting part is this: It was reserved especially for members of the Communoist party. Even Fidel Castro had a white one with air conditioning. If you were to buy one today, It will have been owned by a member of the Communist party. It was rear engined despite being a saloon. Here are pics:
