I've seen the Shockwave jet truck a few times at airshows. It drives around the runway spewing flames, smoke, and impressive sounds, then races an airplane down the entire length of the runway (often winning). It really is an impressive show that I highly reccommend.

Anyways, I found this video featuring not one, but TWO jet trucks drag racing each other. The video doesn't do full justice what must have been a truly incredible performance, but it is still pretty neat. Enjoy:)

I saw the yellow one in Pamona while racing in 1989 and in Vegas in about 92. i think it had three J48 jets on the back of it. It just ran exhibition, but it was amazing. You could actually feel it in your chest when the jets lit.
They would not allow any of the race cars behind the truck. It apparently had enough thrust to shatter windows 100 yards behind it

Wow, I didn't know that Shockwave has been around since the 1980's. I only found out about it a few years ago. I'm surprised that such a incredible machine has had so little competition over 20 years.

Those trucks are as much about making a memorable show as going insanely fast. The flames are basically fuel being sprayed out and ignited. And the roaring sounds they make is absolutely incredible in person.

That it did. I'm surprised the trucks were allowed to do that so close to a combustible material. They usually do the flames in an open area. Actually, I'm impressed that the sign didn't just topple over. It must have been well built.
