what kind of car do you have? And why are you doing burnouts? If it's for dragracing, it's fine, but if it's just for show, it's not really smart. It eats through tires. Since i've never done a burnout, i'm just guessing. If you have a FWD car, put the parking brake on. Remeber to do this on a smooth part of aspahlt. You want some friction, but nothing that would really grip. Drench the tires and ground with water, to create less friction. Hit the accelerater and go. When you want to go, let up on the parking brake. Again, i wouldn't advise this. It would not only destroy the tires, it would seriously wear the brake. Do it only a couple times. If you have an RWD car, you should buy a special brake called a line lock. This locks your fronk axle and lets you do a burnout without hurting your brakes. But i must stress that doing burnouts often wil probaly do more harm than good. If you got the money to buy new brakes and tires every other week, this is probaly the best to perform this.

For a car with an automatic transmission couldn't you just rev your car up when it's in neutral and switch to drive while keeping your foot down on the accelerator?

For manual it's as easy as putting your car into 1st gear while you're at a stop, rev the car up, release the clutch and gas. Because you're going into first at a higher RPM your tires should start moving fast enough to lose friction with the ground, you can then keep gearing up. When you want to actually move from that point just release the accelerator a little and you should take off.

Burning out centers around the idea of having a car that is standing still suddenly try to accelerate to the point where the wheels lose traction with the ground and they rotate in place. Pressing the accelerator while your brakes are engaged will cause the car to try to move forward while standing still. It would put a great strain on your engine and brakes and I doubt it could really result in a burnout.

I currently drive a 1992 Lexus ES300 with an automatic transmission and FWD. If you rev the car while in Neutral then put the car in Drive you should be able to experience a burnout. Water might help, but you don't need it to burn out. Just make sure you have a decent set of tires and keep in mind that they will wear down much faster if you do manage a burnout. Although I don't really see the point of trying to burnout in an older Camry like that. The one advantage of a small burnout is they heat up the tires which allow them to grip the ground better.

You have a better chance of burning out an AT car starting in neutral. I know from experience... And yes camrys are FWD. Nothing beats a standard car, so when and if you get another car, make sure you get nothing but the best. hehe

May I ask why you would want to burnout a '93 Camry anyways? Just curious

ok, you lost me. You planning on bracket racing with a Camary? I wouldn't do a burnout in a 10 year old car without any re-enforcments. You could really, really damage the engine. You have to think about which is more important to you, looking cool or saving $10,000 on engine damage.

Honestly I don't think there's any way to look cool doing a burnout in a 10 year old Camry. People would probably think it was completely unintentional just from the type of car you're in.

"Shiftng" from Neutral into Drive at a high rpm can really Screw over your Transmission. It aint advisable. If you really want to do burnouts it is better to just sell your tranny and trade in for a box...

the topic is nearly a year old,
any chance for a lock on this or something, because its pointless to leave it open IMO

Ok here we go
Step one wet the ground with water

Step two pour 1cup of bleach on each drive tire

Step three hire a real driver and go in the house and look out the window where its safe

on auto put trans in 1 not D roll forward about 3 feet then put in R back up 3 feet as fast as possiable drop shifter all the way from R to 1 while flooring the pedal

stick put in 1 rev to 8000 release clutch all at once if you have 500 or more hp then sit back and watch the birds fly by
Hope this helps

I think it's time someone who's done this weigh in...I decided to race my dad's Mustang, it's an auto, and it's the 6 cylinder version, before you guys and girls all whine, he drives 80 miles roundtrip per day for work, gas mileage was a major concern, and the GT is awful..
Here's two ways to do it:
1-Step on the brake and hold the e-brake while giving the car gas, it's power-braking and basically all you're doing is loading the clutch with force, which is bad, but hey, you wanna do it for a burnout...When you have enough revs drop the emergency brake and let go of the brake pedal and slam the throttle into the firewall...That should be enough to loosen the tires and once it get's going just keep the gas planted...

2-A neutral drop, it's just as bad if not worse, but somewhat easier to do...

First keep the car in neutral, and give it gas, obviously you want to be stationary, so keep your other foot on the brake. AS you drop the shifter into drive release the brake that'll send every single rev of the engines power straight to the driveshaft, and then to your wheels...You're basically going from no power to like, 75% full power in a second, so you can see the damage being done...

Either way, I wouldn't try it in an auto, get a manual transmission, it's easier and less harmful...Also, you're gonna look pretty weird doin' it in a 93 Camry...But eh, if you do this, have fun, and keep a cell phone and lots of money handy, because you're gonna need to call a tow truck and a garage to fix your busted car... :?
