If you want a car that'll go fast, save your money dude, Go for the Dodge SRT-4, stock its got over 200 horsepower. The RSX isnt all that great of a car, Acura tried to replace the Integra and failed miserably. And I hate Civic's, so I cant be of any help there. The SRT-4 is a little bit more money, but you'll see why you saved it once you get it.
I'd go with the RSX type S. It's just all around a better car than the civic. Although both cars have roughly the same weight, the RSX has more power, speed and as far as appearance is concerned the Civic can't even compare. Now you have to consider the price difference of nearly $5000.
Assuming you have $25,000 to spend you could always go for a Mustang GT, Accord LX V-6, Eclipse GT, Mazda 6, Altima or Neon SRT-4. I believe any of these cars will outperform the RSX and Civic. Not to mention that I believe all of these cars look better than the RSX and Civic.

I think the Mazda 6 is a nice car...but not sure how tunable. Kinda new. Im pretty sure the RSX is better than the civic though. Check and see which engine has a better aftermarket. The Civic uses a K20 or something like that. The K series is new. I have no idea whats in the RSX. You could get an old Integra GS-R with a B18 in it. They have tons of aftermarket and proven to be the best honda engine so far.

The RSX is one step above the Civic...So the obvious choise should be the RSX...

it all depends
for 20 grand you could get a ford Focus SVT, SRT-4, Mini Cooper S and the relativly unknown MAZDASPEED Protege. The SVT is a great handler. It shoots around corners, and it looks great. It's a hatchback, so it has almost no room. And it's slightly underpowered. The SRT-4 would probaly be the best bet if you don't care about crappy interior and less than great looks. It can out accelerate a 350Z and an a WRX. The Mini cooper is like a go cart. It has flat acceleration and corners like it's on rails. The cons are that everyone has one and it has a limited storage capacity. Thats the sacrifice you have to make to be comfortable, in the front and the back. The Protege is really nice. It's got a solid little 4 popper with a turbo and intercooler. It's a sedan, so it has alot of room everywere. It's really cool looking, espacilly black. It's got great handling, a little understeer, but thats expected from a FWD car. My dad's mazda has lasted 250,000 miles and 17 years with regular maintnence and has no sign of stopping. So, no worry over durability. Lastly, almost noboy has one, so you will definetly stand out in the crowd. The Protoge is overall the best in my opinion.
How tunable is the Mazda SPEED Protege? The SRT-4 does not accelerate faster than the 350Z, where are you getting your numbers from? The fastest 0-60 time I found was 5.6 (0.1 seconds behind the 350Z) and fastest 1/4 mile was 14.2 (at least 0.2 seconds behind the 350Z).

You know what? even if the Stock 350Z is slower than an STR 4 or whatever it's called, It beats it in looks by a LONG shot and I know it handles and brakes better. The 350Z is stock N/A and the STR 4 is a turboed stolen I-4. Get the Greddy twin tubro kit for the Z and you're ready to slay at will and with heaps of style.
