I have a pearl white 94 VR-4 for sale. clean title, no accidents, etc.

The engine runs flawless. it JUST has the 60k service done less than 10 miles ago for peace of mind (I don't know when the previous owner did it, and he had no documentation of it. So, I had it done just-in-case). The turbos are in great shape. no shaft play, no smoking, etc. they boost quickly and smoothly... no stuttering, hesitating, etc.

The transmission shifts like it's brand new. no grinding, or blocking out of gears.. smooth shifting. The entire drivetrain has 60k on it.

The car has no leaks, and is in perfect running condition. all maintenance has been done, and all fluids have been changed within the last 10 miles (yes, 10, not 10,000).

The interior is PERFECT. one dash vent has started to crack, but is not lifting at all. the drivers side bolster has some very slight wear, but overall, in excellent shape for a car that's 12+ years old.

The body of the car is in excellent condition, except for some spiderwebbing on the front bumper under the passenger side headlight, and a 4" gash on the rear bumper.

The car also comes with the 95+ vr-4 18" Chromies. They are in very good shape. not perfect, and have some slight pitting/bubbling, but nothing noticable from 5 feet away.

I'm asking 10k for the car as-is, or 11k for the car with the front and rear bumpers fixed. The car has been serviced by one of the best 3000GT/Stealth shops in the country. I've sold quite a few 3000GT VR-4's/Stealth TT's in the last year, and all of my cars are top-notch. I wouldn't sell anything I wouldn't buy.

If you have any questions, shoot me a message here, or you can e-mail me at ECoppola@gmail.com or, feel free to call me on my cell at (914) 393-8257 anytime (i'm up till at least 1am eastern time, every night, and up every morning at 10).

I'd like to sell this car pretty quickly, so, I'll entertain REASONABLE offers. The car is located in Easton, PA, and if anyone local wants to come look at the car/test drive it, you're more than welcome to swing by the garage. We're here every day, all day.

My friend has a purple '95 3000GT SL that his dad bought off some guy for I think $4,000. Even though it's not TT, but it sure is quick though. He actually revved it to around 4,000RPM and it sounded nice. BTW, how do you get 12 VR-4s?

Unfortunately, we don't get RHD in the US. But we do have a US spec 98 vr-4 (different body styling then you guys got overseas), and we also have a few stealth TT's and early model 3000GT VR-4's. All of the cars we have are Twin Turbo's. So, it's pretty much, just pick a year and color :D haha

I use Wheeler Shipping. I've never had a problem at all, and the prices are fairly reasonable... a bit higher then the lower-end of shippers, but she had no negative feedback on any review website I came across. And the cars always got where they were going quickly, and in perfect shape.

You need to tell me more about it.

how much is he asking for it?
what model is it? (base or SL)
is it manual or automatic?

ask him how the transmission is, if it was ever rebuilt (very important if it's automatic) and how long ago if it was, how it shifts, does it make any noises (grinding, whining, clanking, chirping, etc). does it shift smoothly, and does it slip in any gear.

ask him if the car smokes at all. how's the gas mileage (they should get upwards of 20mpg, if it's significantly less, there's something wrong).

umm... light lifter tick is normal (a very light tapping noise coming from the valve cover). a loud knocking noise is NOT good... it's an indication of a spun bearing/rod knock (that means the bottom end would be completely toasted)

the non turbos really don't have all that many problems. a 96 with 105k on it, i'd pay probably around 4-5k for it, depending on the options it has and overall how clean it is and if it's in great mechanical shape with no problems.

It's a '96 base model, brand new transmission, replaces last august, new clutch and flywheel about a year ago, new brakes about a year and a half ago, body is in good condition, no knocking noise, doesn't smoke at all, not sure about the mileage. Shifts smoothly but it's a little tough with the racing clutch. Very grabby.

Wait, wait, waaaaait...you're looking at a base model 3000GT with a racing clutch, as a daily driver?

Why does it have a racing clutch? It's got an n/a motor.

Some people...

Still, dude, from one person who drives a stick in lots of traffic to someone looking at that car...the clutch alone will kill all fun you'd have in it.

E-TEC 4
Apr 11, 2006, 12:03 PM
That's what my dad always tells me when he's in the pickup. If there's a bunch of traffic everyday on the roads you drive, there's no point in sitting there and playing with the stick (erm, not in THAT way). ALso, probably the only thing a racing clutch would do for an auto is allow you to neutral-slam faster...

Porscheboy
Apr 11, 2006, 2:44 PM
I know, I know, it's a pretty stupid idea. Maybe he thought it'd go faster or something. But I don't mind driving a clutch in traffic. It doesn't bother me like it does to some people. But i just know I'm gonna stall it often, their's no rotational mass at all coming fromt he engine. The flywheel is almost too light.

But I love a challenge, and it will be worth it once I figure it out. AND, nobody but me will be able to drive it :D .

EDIT: and e-tec, it's not an auto, just incase you didn't see that. It's a 5 speed. tranny just replaced last august.

I had a lightened flywheel and a racing clutch in my galant vr-4. i usually really don't mind driving stick in traffic, but with the racing clutch and light flywheel, it was BAD. way too heavy, and would really hurt my leg after a while, and the rpm's would drop way too fast and almost cause it to stop even during regular driving, let alone in stop and go traffic. There is NO need for a racing clutch in a stock vr-4, let alone a non turbo. If it wasn't for that, I'd say it sounds like a good car. But if it's your daily driver, then I'd test drive it first, and see how you do with it. If you stall it a few times, and you normally don't have a problem, then i'd pass. You grow to dislike it very quickly.

check out www.3si.org in the cars for sale section. there's usually a few nice non turbos in there if you're not looking to spend the money on a vr-4.

Well I just found out it needs at least $700 of work in order to get it to pass inspection. So I'm going one last time to see if they can't lower the price, or I'm gonna have to keep looking. The clutch would get on my nerves too, I would need to be paying too much attention to the clutch, which isn't good when you're jsut driving around in a city.

So I think I might go for it.

Definitely take it for a test drive in stop and go traffic. See how you like it. If you have ANY problems with it, or get frustrated at all, pass on the car. Just think about driving it, and getting frustrated like that every day :)

There are a MILLION non turbo's running around, especially up your way.

are you looking specifically for a 5 speed? A friend of mine is selling his blue 94 SL with a 97 body conversion (much nicer looker, IMO) for about 4k or something around there. He's up near Boston I believe.

if you want to drive down to PA to our shop, we could do it for you here (we specialize in 3000GT/Stealth's specifically) :) it'll still be cheaper than having a dealer do the work up there for you even after gas and tolls both ways. lol

at the dealer, changing an accessory belt, will probably be 150, we charge about 60 plus the cost of the belt, which is about $20.

60k service at a dealer, will run you about 1400. we charge $700, including parts (genuine mitsu parts, not the aftermarket replacement parts). I can give you the number to the shop and you can get in touch with the owner and talk to him about it if you'd like :)

no offense, but on the SL, price doesn't vary too much depending on mileage, unfortuantely.

any quote you get from the dealer, will be about twice what a normal place charges.

a friend of mine just drove down from NH to central jersey (comparable distance from NH to here in PA), and it took about 5 hours or so, with hitting traffic.

No it won't? You should pretty much never buy a crashed car, unless it only needs a bumper, and that's IT. The frame might be bent a little bit, making a permanent wobble, or you might have electrical problems, and stuff like that. In my opinion, I would NEVER buy a crashed car.

Well, I'm getting sick of my car. It's going in to the shop for about $1000 of work. It just needs those two things I mentioned before, (Timing belt, and the wheel bearing). After that it should be fine. I might keep it, but if I don't like it by the end of the school year, it's goin up for sale.

So if anyone's interested in a black on tan 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT, let me know. I'm thinking of selling it for $6,300. that way I'll at least break even.
