I cant really reccomend you buy any new Russian car. When the new Lada series came out a few years ago, the only good thing about it was the fact that it was really cheap, but that came with a price of it's own.
Lots of models had all kinda faults, like wheels dropping off after the first 100 meters of driving away from the dealer (yes, that actually hapened) and so on and so on...

Offcourse, sometimes faulths can be found on the best cars, but there rare, with Russian cars - it's rare if you dont have them.

Yea, it might be so... I just had those fact that I told. UAZ is not a good car, but the attitude. You will be spending some serious qualitytime with it, if you happen to buy one... That's for what I heard. Finnish army still has some old 31512 models in use, and they sure are a lot of fun (I've had mine). It's fun and challenching.

That shouldn’t surprise me if the Finnish army still use 31512 the Finnish army have the same philosophy as the Swedish army, why throw things away when we can put them in a big mountain garage… not far from me there is a big mountain garage with about 400 old Volvo *PansarVärnsPJäsTerränGBil* Try to pronounced that name in Swedish

Old UAZ is one of the best off-road vehicles ever... No current SUV can go where UAZ can... It looks ugly; it has no comfort... But if you wanna get to some place where there are no roads whatsoever it's your choice - it will get the job done... I don't know about new models, though...

Here is couple of links; you may find them interesting:
