Default SLR is a auto?!?!?!

look at the brown interior pic of:

http://seriouswheels.com/cars/top-20...n-Roadster.htm

you would think for a 620+ hp car (espically a MB) would have a stick

haha i guess i just havent noticed. It is nice though that a 600hp can be an auto for those who dont like shifting or for people who just want to floor it and not worry about the clutch nd shifting, etc

Mercedes has like no manual gearboxes left in their topend cars. None of the AMGs have manual gearboxes

It is because there isn't need of a stick. Their gearbox changes faster than you can change manually.

the SLR is basically a Super Cruiser. Luxury and Speed in one, where most super cars are all about performance. If you watch this it may explain what an SLR is supposed to be.

Why should it have a stick?
Automatics can be as fast and faster then a manual.

CLK DTM has a 5-speed auto to, and that's a hardcore track car

If Mercedes decides that an auto is the best option, then so be it.
They probably didn't decide it with heads or tails.

I know, but he's saying that you'd expect a stick from Mercedes Benz, while MB hardly uses manual gearboxes at all in their fast cars.

Why should the SLR Mclaren have a stick? Its been a 5 speed automatic since it has same out. It a luxury coupe.

^The transmission wouldn't have been able to deal with the torque and power that the SLR makes.

To all those people who keep saying that the auto is better just because it can shift faster, I disagree. Unless your racing the whole point of having a sports car is having fun. In my limited experience and lot of more experienced people agree is that manuals are more fun to drive.

This quote sums up what I mean in a different context.

Seriously, I've driven both (not the way overpowered varients, but they regular ones) and you really gota control the way to drive to drive it to the limit. It is a blast to do, but sometimes I just don't feel like being that keen on my driving senses. Sometimes I just wanna blast down the highway, or powerover a corner, or just make a really scary engine revving sound to drown out the rice rockets next to me. I just think I would have MORE fun with the VXR8. All the cars are gonna be ridiculously fast, it's not like I'm gonna be in a racing league where milliseconds mean the difference between life and death. I live in the real world, where FUN is the point in getting a sports car.

I agree with you that a manual is more fun. But I think if you have bought an SLR, you must have considered the Carrera GT. And that does come only with a manual.
