Default New Seat Ibiza Cupra [1.4L TSI twin turbo with 180hp and 7speed DSG]

Quote:
Just a few months after it launched the new Ibiza, Spanish automaker SEAT is expanding its supermini’s range with the reveal of the sporty Cupra model that is equipped with the latest version of the VW Group’s 1.4-liter TSI engine. The new twin-turbo engine now delivers 180 HP and is mated to a seven speed DSG gearbox with steering wheel shift-paddles. SEAT say that while developing the same output as the 1.8-liter turbo in the previous generation Ibiza Cupra, the new engine delivers a noteworthy reduction in emission levels and fuel consumption thanks to its smaller cylinder capacity. Compared to the other Ibiza SportCoupe (3door) versions, the new Cupra gets a relatively aggressive bodykit with new a front bumper that features a lip spoiler and air intake vents surrounding the central grille, 17-inch alloy wheels and a newly designed rear bumper with an integrated difusser and a centrally placed trapezoid tailpipe. Oddly enough, and although the Cupra is the top-of-the-range model in the Ibiza line-up, it does not get side skirts. Apparently SEAT will charge a few hundred Euros extra for them…
According to the VW’s Spanish subsidiary, the Cupra will come equipped with standard ESP, ABS, TCS + EBA, driver and passenger airbag, head airbag, Hill Hold Control, tire pressure loss warning light, twin chrome headlights, fog lamps with cornering function, “easy entry” system on the passenger seat, CUPRA suspension, CUPRA sports seats and aluminum pedals. The Ibiza Cupra will make its worldwide debut at the forthcoming Paris Auto Show in October.

I must say that this is impressive. I mean the output of this car.

Well i'm not a fan of downsizing but here's a great example.

Looking forward for the first test drives!

I have always loved the cupra. But these later generations look heavy.

I tried to find a pic of the original one i guess but could not find one.

nice engine though.

Its nothing impressive unfortunately. The design is nothing you can expect from Walter da Silva, I believe he hasn't worked on this project. Its aggressive but ugly, looks like a chinese car. Da Silva's SEAT's were so beautiful and that...

And the output - you see, its VW engine which made 170hp in Golf last years. I'm sure the new Golf 1.4 TSI will make 180hp, too. DSG is put right from VW also, and not to mention its basically a Porsche invention.

Briefly, nothing new. The good thing is that it's cheaper than a VW with the same parts. Really interested in the tests, mostly comparing it to VW and Skoda.

the only thing that would make this car better would be if the huge FAKE brake air intakes were REAL. But regardless of that, the car simply looks great. In speciall the wheels and the single central exhaust wich i`m a huge fan of the concept.

I loved the old Cupra/FR! For ages I wished the Ibiza would be my "first car"!

But this new one is, well, underwhelming. Styling is too conservative and it looks rather heavy.

Shame really

Well it's the first time this new generation of tsi has been released they never had twin turbos before, the golf you mention had 1 turbo and a mechanical supercharger. I'm pretty sure it's the first 7 speed DSG box too. So VW and Seat are using the same components, it's nothing new, certainly no reason to write it off.
I think it should be a pretty cool little car, might look into getting an older cupra.

I would have read the whole thing but we don't have seat in the states and I'm wondering why it's a good looking car.

It's incredibly ugly for a Seat. I think I'd rather have the previous generation although this one's engine probably kicks ass hardcore.

Some of you seem awfully confused... these are the previous generations.

Shame the new one doesn't look more like this...

Is there any chance that Seat could come to the U.S.? To my
knowledge there aren't any dealers for Seat here.

I don't like it at all.

The central exhaust looks good but no on this car, the rear lights spoil the design of the car. Shame that as the rest of the car looks great but the tailights let it down & not even the sporty cupra model can change my mind.

I'd take the previous gen Ibiza cupra over this new model.
