Default Buying A Car

hey guys long time no hear from my side.

Anyways, my Father and I have been thinking about an M3 Sedan DCT for a couple of months. And today was the we went to go buy one. Very exciting! The dealership had the car that we wanted

M3 Sedan with
DCT
Mdrive
Exec. Package
Dampner Control
19 Inch Rims

And the final price including everything was $92,500. My dad said $85,000 cash and we will both be happy and the dealership did not give us that.

So my question, are we asking for to much here? I mean its bloody $7,500 and the economy is sh*it, and the dealerships are suffering.

Response?

Wow, that is really suprising! I wouldn't think that it would be better for the dealership, a. Because your paying cash and b. Because it is a car that doesn't sell as often as the lower models...

Very interesting. I got a 2K discount off a civic I would very much think that you could get 7 off a M3....

BMW isn't in a recession. Company policy is that if you can't afford full price, they don't want your business.

Glad to see you didn't budge on the 85k. Did you take the offer to another dealer?

BMW dealers in Canada prices their cars according to the MRSP. So, i dont think there is too much flexibility here...unless your willing to give up some options and lower the price that way.

And MMF1: M3 is not JUST a 3 series...just like how a C63 AMG is not just a C-class...And if you really want to put it that way, couple thousand dollars for a Civic is just bullcrap because all your getting is bunch of metal and plastic...

Don't kid yourself, the M3 IS just a 3 series and the AMG IS just a C class.

Of course it is just a regular 3 series. Seriously, though... after surfing their BMW Configurator with the items that you want equipped would cost $87,500 + PDI, Tax, etc.

While a C63 AMG fully loaded with everything (literally) would cost you $73,550 + PDI, Tax, etc. Do the math. It's literally 14 grand cheaper.

And... apparently, you can't get an RS4 in Canada. Or atleast they don't have it on the website. Wicked.

My advice to your father is to shop around and be more considerate of the negotiating. Sure, he has the money on hand, but its a business, they don't just 'give' cars away for any old price. After all, you aren't exactly buying a Dodge Grand Caravan here and expect $10,000 off the MSRP.

Now, I know you probably won't listen as you've said your dad has his mind set, but has he considered a new CTS-V?

Its a very good alternative, and it will cost about $30,000 less than that BMW. Just tell him to go test drive one, I am sure he will be impressed.

The RS4 was discontinued in 07/08.

Also, I'd rather pay more for the Beamer than get the Merc.

So you and others know... the dealership actually makes more money when you finance because they get a cut of the interest. Also offering cash doesn't mean a damn thing I work for Saturn and we don't care whether you pay in cash or blood... just because you come at us and say, "hey I'll offer you $4K LESS than sticker but pay cash!" We will say, "Take a hike!!!" cash doesn't mean anything in today's day and age... if you can't afford the car DO NOT TRY TO BUY IT!!! don't lowball the dealer, wait until you can afford the car or buy something else. Welcome to the world of car buying!
Besides BMW is so over rated... bunch of stuck up bean counters......

BMW= Big Money Wasted or Bought My Wife

and now I can't wait to hear the nasty responses... keep 'em comin' !!!

Dealerships prefer cash sales because it's cash in hand, not a trickled revenue stream or a lump sum they have to wait x number of days to clear through the finance company. It's also easier on the books.

There are very few businesses who will prefer a credit sale to a cash sale.

not true... come talk to my finance manager he'd love to straighten that thought out for you... dealers make very little money on straight cash deals (except used cars...) they do make more on financing... OTHERWISE ALL dealers would advertise cars at CASH value and not even offer prime rate financing... I WORK THIS DAILY........

Nutter, keep in mind that with financing that $92,500 turns into $100k+.

BMW would lose around $20,000 with that deal, not $7k.

A good video to show your pops on why they charge $90+k..

PS- The M3 is not a standard 3 series. The E46 M3 shares less than 30% of its parts with the non-M's. It looks similar, but that's all. To give you an example.. the front bumper, hood, side skirts, rear quarters, rear bumper, trunk, wheels, and side mirrors are all different. And that's just the outside..

I would buy something cheaper. CTS-V is a good choice... 135i, 335i is not so bad too and i guess much cheaper.
