Default 2007 M5 gets a stick shift...FINALLY, and Porsche make's another fast car...=P

BMW-For those of you naysayers whining about us punks and our die hard love for stick shifts saying that we're "primitive" and don't like F1 because it's more refined, well..Ya'll can stuff it, BMW announced recently that due to increased pressure from, where else, the US market that in 2007 BMW's flagship sport sedan the M5 will be given a proper 6 speed manual transmission. Furthermore, the US market is the only one getting the triple pedal and stick layout, so HA!

Finally I can full heartedly like the M5.

Porsche-Announced recently that the Cayman S is a go for the 2006 model lineup, and surprisingly will actually be targeted above the base 911 Carrera. The price for the 291 hp 3.4 liter flat six Boxster coupe? Around $75,000...

Manual is great. I hate automatic gearboxes. But there's also SMG. All manual, no clutch. Though I'll miss the clutch, SMG is great. I drove an M3 with SMG, I did miss the clutch, but the feeling was still great. Besides that, I think we'll see the 6 speed manual M5 in Europe too, sooner or later.

WHOO!!!! M5 is pretty much perfect.. nothing much to complain about. Maybe nitpick on looks; but otherwise it's perfect.

I hope that we get the Manual box soon, although its strange its got only six-gears when the SMG has seven. Although, would you use seven gears, I sruggle to use six on the road.

I must admit that i like the BMW sequential gearboxes in all the M series, but it's was imminent that they would put one in the new M5 anyway.

the Cayman S is definitly not worth the price. arent coupes supposed to be cheaper than the convertible/roadster variant anyway?

but now i think i like the M5 a lot more now, just because of the stick.

If the land of the auto transmisions get the manual gearbox, we should get it as well. Anyway, I can't afford a M5

The Caymen S is supposed to have the speed of a 911, but the handling of a Boxster, so I don't think that it's overpriced at all, it should be one hell of a car.

This makes the Porsche range too confusing. Is the Caymen supposed to trump the 911?

Yes, the base 911, not the Carrera S. It's the best of both 911 and Boxster, for a very decent price. IMHO All my info is based off Porsche forums, not Porsche themselves.

I'm still confused. Is it just a hardtop version of the boxter?

Not exactly, it is like a hardtop version of the Boxster however it has a new front end (911-ish) and has a larger engine (3.4L > 3.2L). It has the advantage of only two seats, lighter weight, and a mid-engine design for better weight distribution. If you have ever driven a Boxster you'll find it has wonderful handling yes is underpowered, so this should solve that. I can't wait for the "Cayman Turbo S"....

The ghosts of departed 914-6's are smiling.

Yes but this the Cayman should be more aerodynamic with its hatch and new front end and faster with its larger engine.
