why would they restyle something so new? This didn't leak out. If you mean the cabriolet, it's nice.

Okay, so right now Pontiac only has the G6 base and G6 GT out. The only performance difference between the two is the GT has sport suspension and a manumatic transmission. Otherwise both use the relatively dull 3.5-liter OHV V6 that finds its home in the Chevrolet Malibu and the new set of super-boring minivans from Buick, Chevrolet, Pontiac, and Saturn.
Before long, Pontiac will debut a G6 coupe, and, supposedly, a G6 convertible with a retractible hardtop. No Pontiac convertible has made it more than, I believe, five years since the 1970s, so don't expect much. Hopefully around the same time, they're scheduled to come out with either a G6 GTP, which would feature a supercharged version of the current engine, or a G6 GXP, which would feature a 3.9-liter V6. Hopefully they debut both, but I'm more certain of the GXP (though I don't guarantee a 3.9, but the engine will be larger) so count on that and don't hold any high hopes for the GTP. Finally, Pontiac will be adding a base engine to the G6's bottom end around the same time as the performance versions. Assumably it will be the same 2.2-liter four used in the Chevrolet Cobalt, Saturn Ion, and base Chevrolet Malibus. No excitement machine, but the hope is for a complete range here - a base model for advertising low prices, plain-vanilla and slightly-performance-oriented 3.5-liter models, a coupe, a convertible, and at least one truly-performance-oriented model. The only engine I'm sure the coupe and convertible will carry is the 3.5; no word on whether they get stuck with the 2.2 as well or if they get a shot at a performance version. Most importantly, the hope is that the Grand Am will finally be cancelled by the end of the year. Truth be told, if you want a good deal on a fully-loaded vehicle and don't mind a 1999 design, head to Pontiac - I wouldn't be surprised to see them letting go fully-loaded Grand Ams for high-19s or low-20s (that's with a power sunroof, chrome alloys, an MP3 player, leather, and satellite radio - plus a 175hp 3.4L V6 doing 0-60 in around 8 seconds, EPA rated at 20/29mpg). Not a bad deal |
