Nissan Versa
Chevy Cobalt Toyota Corolla Mercury Mountaineer Jeep Compass Ford Ranger Chevy Colorado Land Rover LR2 Lincoln Town Car Mercury Grand Marquis Mitsubishi Galant Mitsubishi Endeavor I would take all those off the list and add(on top of my head) VW diesel vans, Caddy Escalade, and GMC Astro to the list.

C'mon people. You're missing the point of the list. None of these cars are necessarily flat-out "bad". They are "bad" strictly by the definition of the author and "bad" by comparison. And his reasoning is they don't measure up to other offerings in their class.

Because here a Smart costs 9,950 euros (8,715£ in the UK), whilst the Civic starts at 19,950 euros (15,426£). The Civic is small and seats five, but the smart is tiny and only seats two. The Civic 1.4 (smallest engine available) gets 49.6mpg on the combined cycle, whereas the most efficient Smart achieves nearly 63 (and thats the petrol, the diesel will return 83mpg) |

Here in Americaland it's a different story
Smart Fortwo: MSRP: $11,990 - $16,990 Fuel economy: 33 / 41 mpg out of a 1.0L engine that makes 70 horsepower Honda Fit: MSRP: $14,900 - $19,110 Fuel economy: 28 / 35 mpg out of a 1.5L engine that makes 117 horsepower These numbers are all from Yahoo Autos though. Almost every single real world test I've seen puts the Smarts average fuel economy in the lower 30's mainly because you gota strain the engine to hit 65, which it also takes forever to hit because it's so damn slow.

Still, and i say this again.. as a secondary car to go to the store, or to best buy, or whatever its the great, and it costs what it costs because its not a common car.
33mpg city is AMAZING... I do half of that and on the highway. maybe someone should ship me one of those diesel Smarts from euroland.
