Default Mitsubishi announces new Colt range!!

Mitsubishi announces new Colt range
[02 June 2004]

Mitsubishi has revealed details of its new Colt range, which will go on sale in Britain on 1 September priced from £8999 to £12,499. Powered by a choice of 1.1, 1.3 and 1.5-litre petrol engines and a 1.5-litre diesel, this will be available in four trim levels and offer options including a six-speed automated manual transmission.

Something of a make-or-break model for Mitsubishi on a global scale, the new supermini will offer dual front airbags, ABS/EBD, central locking, 15-inch alloys, CD, alarm and colour-coded bumpers as standard equipment across the range. All models available at launch will share the same five-door layout, with a three-door due to join the range next year.

The familiar Classic, Equippe, Elegance and Sport badges will be appended to the vehicle from the word go, with a pick-and-mix of engines available depending on which you go for. The entry-level 1.1 is a three-cylinder affair developing 75bhp, while the 1.3 gives you 95bhp and the 1.5 petrol tops the range with 109bhp. The direct-injection 1.5 turbodiesel also puts out 95bhp; all four are, of course, Euro IV compliant.

All engines come as standard with a five-speed manual 'box, but all apart from the 1.1-litre can also be had, at least in some trim forms, with Mitsubishi's AllShift six-speed Automated Manual Transmission. This hints at the fun-to-drive ethos behind the vehicle - though it won't be short on practicality, either, thanks to a wide, tall profile which Mitsubishi promises will offer class-leading cabin space. Key to this is a 40/60 split rear seat, each side of which can be individually reclined, folded or removed altogether - thus creating up to 645 litres of load space.

Mitsubishi reckons it will sell 3000 new Colts in the UK during the third of 2004 for which it will be on sale, with the introduction of the three-door model helping bump this up to 15,000 in 2005. 'Colt will be the third all-new Mitsubishi model to be launched this year,' said the company's UK boss Jim Tyrrell, 'and will truly cement in people's minds the new spirit of the brand and the new face of Mitsubishi.'

New Colt prices:

Classic 1.1 - £8999

Equippe 1.1 - £9999

Equippe 1.3 AllShift - £10,999

Equippe 1.5 diesel - £11,499

Equippe 1.5 AllShift diesel - £11,999

Elegance 1.3 - £11,499

Elegance 1.3 AllShift - £11,999

Elegance 1.5 AllShift - £12,499

Sport 1.5 - £11,499

I saw most of their range today at the motorshow, and the convertable concept based on the colt. I would never buy one, but they will sell loads here in the UK, there are lots of old people in the UK, and they like cars that look like that

It will be a very good car IMO, bot not sth that I would buy...
Not quite fond of the design, but pretty good engines and quality.
It will really help Mitsubishi get out of their trouble IMO.
