Default 5 years, 5 months and 7 days...

Thats how long it took me from joining this forum to buying my first car.

Despite some of the advice I've recived, I ended up getting a 2003 Holden Astra SXI.

I picked it up early this afternoon then pretty much drove straight to work over the otherside of town.

Its got 195,000km on the odo. Thats something like 120,000 miles. It has aftermarket wheels on as well. Not exactly what I would have chosen but not terrible. They are the right size for the car and not overly flashy. They still look good so I'm happy.

I'm pretty happy with it. Its got a nice, torquey engine (compared to what I'm used to at least) the gear changes are the way I like them and the steering isn't too light.

The only problems with it that I can tell so far is that one of the headlight bulbs has blown and my feet are too big. My toe keeps catching on the bottom of the dash when I bring the clutch up. It also smells like ciggeratte smoke and every time I open a new storage compartment I find a few more buts. There is also what appears to be tabbaco all over the interior but a vacume shoudl clear most of that up.

I don't have any of my own pictures right now. I haven't had a chance to take pictures durring the day and the only camera I have is on my phone, which I lost the computer cable for. So here are the sellers pictures.

As 308 said, the only badges are 1.8 and SXI.

Yeah, that body shape is definatly the looker of that generation. Also, with the back seats down there is a lot of luggage room.

The only "mods" Im planning on are a new bulb for the front headlight (changing to one that works) and a St Kilda Football Club membership sticker. Untill I'm off my P plate (another 3 years) modifactions would make the car illegal for me to drive as it would be a "high powered car" then. For the record anything with 8 or more cylinders or forced induction is also considered a high powered car, as are a few 6 cylinders. There are a few exempt from the forced induction rule though, The Daihatsu Copen being one example.

Nice Astra LoH, my friend had one - it was badged as Opel ofcourse - was a nice ride... He had 1.6 16V + sequential lpg, it was closing the clock at 185km/h. Your should go +195km/h on ease.

Haha, good to know but I'm not planning to try that out anytime soon. I'm neither a racing driver nor exempt from the law so I'll stick to enthusiastic acceleration as far as on road antics go for now.

Thanks Jpete.

That's a neat little first car, I remember looking at a few when I was shopping. You will enjoy it no doubt.

Ah well, I'd still love to have something similar to the FC you had a few years back, sadly that wouldn't have been either practical or legal for me to drive.

I'm not in Switzerland anymore, moved back a few months ago. Come to think of it, income based speeding fines wouldn't have been too bad back in Switzerland when I was earning 1000chf a month. Still, I'd rather just not get caught.

I don't know why, but it reminds me of this...

...or maybe it's just me.

Anywho, congrats, man!

Enjoy the car, and be safe.

Practical really only comes secondary with most interesting cars. The FC however did have more luggage space then the camaro. Still I managed to drive 4 people, and a 5ī9" chicken to a casino driving the camaro

The pertinent question, how much?

Tis a very nice car. I absolutely love those body style Astras. The rear reminds me of this car:

Anywhoser, congrats on your new car and ULTRAFAIL for not getting in 2 days earlier.
