I know nothing about Brazilian history. Did the Portugese put up a fight, or was it peaceful?

well around that time Napolean was taking over Europe and he had occupied Portugal. Then when things cooled down, the royal family deciced to head on back home. The prince of the family (forget his name) decided that it was time for brazil to be its own independant country, and decided he'd be the one to lead it. "Independance or Death" is what he proclaimed to the monarchy that was leaving back to brazil. There was no war and brazil's been keepin it real ever since.
In fact they haven't been in a war since WWII, and all they did was send a couple of troops to italy after they joined the allied forces. we dont like wars.
