Even funnier is that when we had to paint the Vega it cost us about 60 bucks for spray paint! lol... The Monte Carlo is his baby though.

Bottom end is done. Mid 70s chevy pickup block. Four bolt mains of course. Skat crank, (forged, but only because I get a good deal on parts, and have a tendency to overbuild), 6 inch rods, Silvolite hypereutectic pistons with floating wrist pins, and teflon buttons capping off the holes. I could have went with cast crank, and pistons because I do not plan on running this engine for anything but a daily driver, but I always overbuild, because when you have a toy like this you always want something else done to the engine later. I considered having the pistons ceramic coated across the crown, and teflon coated on the skirts, but decided that this was too much for this truck. The block was drilled and tapped for the girdle that is used with hydraulic roller lifters. I have not decided on a cam yet, but I think I want a gear drive just because of the noise. To me the howl of a gear driven cam is very nostalgic. The heads will be off a chevy 305, and will retain the smaller ports and valve size (remember this truck is heavy and I am interested in intake velosity to increase torque), although they will be pocket ported. The bearings were standard clevitte, and the rings are sealed power. Nothing special, but once again I am going for drivability.

This is an engine that anyone can build. The block I got from a machine shop. They had taken it as a core, and cleaned it up. I traded the owner out of it. The rest was just ordering parts and bolting it together. It took about two hours, and a few beers to assemble
The real trick is realistically planning out what you want the engine to do, and building for your application. This is built for something that is comperable to a winnabago in weight and wind resistance, and would not be the right build for a smaller/ lighter vehicle

This is the Vega when it was still white...

This is the new blue spray paint job. Daniel put it into the wall once so we fixed the fender and had it repainted. Rick, a friend of ours that drives the Vega most of the time, took it into the wall the first time out after that so after we fixed the same fender AGAIN we just went to wal mart and bought a bunch of spray paint. Rick got a hair up his ass and decided we should paint it blue. This is what it now looks like...

Do you realize how redneck a wal mart rattle can/bug bomb paint job is. This sounds like someone took the whole inbred smurf thing way too seriously

We do live in Kansas y'know... lol

We bought 45 cans of spray paint and spent 4 hours layering the thing. It actually came out pretty damn good for 3 half drunk idiots in the middle of the night! lol

We've got PLENTY of paint left if anyone wants some custom work done! lol

This is a foolish thing to do. How did you all end up talking about a paint job on a Chevy?

That looks pretty good, Monkey. If you opened up a shop, I'd be your first customer. My 'Rolla needs paint BAD.
