This actually looks really interesting.

You could really make a big thing out of it, there's plenty on here who would love to see that sort of thing.

India FTW! Pawan, this is near Bangalore i presume. In hyderabad we have a go kart track which hosts an annual tournament with 200cc carts. I believe that one time an f1 driver came to it and lost! The bikes are what interest me the most however, as indian bikes max out at about 180cc.

I am partial to the zen, as i learnt to drive a manual on one last summer. Also, i love to see an ambassador getting thrashed. Great pics

Some of the first pics are obviously classic images. Do you go to races/rallyes, pawan?

All in all; it looks like people having fun at the races!

SCCA Runoffs used to look like that (run what ya brung) before D Sedan Minis turned into RWD $30,000 bare tube chassis "amateur" race cars...

the track races are from mmst (madras motor sports club) and the rally pictures are form bangalore. the earlier pictures are from various other races like the Himalayan rally and from sholavaram.

yes steve as you said they are classic images during that time cars were bought in from many other places for the rally.

i usually go to watch the track but not much of a rally fan but hopefully will try to participate in the near future. but the tracks being not in my town which mean over night trips has its draw backs and i cant go to watch most of the races.

the earlier races which were held in sholavaram and were mostly concentrated in the cars which were all backyard built.
like in this picture a porsche with home built cars

we have only two tracks in india one is mmst and other is kari sppedway.

karispeedway

mmst

last year was a indo lanka race where cars from sri lanka came to participate.

here are pictures of the touring car championship that happened last year that included cars from sri lanka.

the cars from sri lanka that came

the indian cars
due to the high import duties and cars not sold in india hence no imports but from what i hear there was big money put in these cars.

the baleno engine bay

the supra was there only for the sake of it its a drag setup

the race

this car never ran

back to the imports

the supra ( hks guys had come down from japan to setup this car)

the race

from this

to this

back to Indian cars

the bike class cant find much pics on it

the credits
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/motor-...-included.html

@sandeep
the zen's have 1300cc esteem engine and those cars are light stock with every thing they are 700-odd kgs and in those cars have complete fiber body they also have roll cages so its not completely light.

Wow!

These are very, very cool posts, brother!

Keep them coming, and I'll keep checking them out. I'm really surprised to see such a healthy motorsports culture in your country, and I think it's cool that there is one.

Proof that gearheads exist even where they shouldn't! Awesome!

I have to admit I am very impressed. I had initially started another thread for hometown heros, hoping this type of correspondance would unfold.

I will be reading this thread regularly.

Thanks for adding quality in the form of interesting articles to the forum!

I really wish that we had things like that in Hyderabad. I think the main problem is that there are just soooo many people in hyderabad that there simply isn't room for a race track. To put it in perspective to anyone who hasn't experienced indian traffic, imagine bad rush hour traffic. That's what it is like all day long.

Great pics once again though, loving those cars. I admit that I am very surprised to see cars such as WRX's and Evos, even more surprised about the Supra.

Vtec dreams, you think you're surprised about indian motorsports. I have been to that country at least 15 to 16 times in my lifetime(I'm 15 remember) and I haven't heard one peep about this! Makes me feel kinda out of the loop... but it also makes me pretty proud.

I've been to a go cart track called Runway 9 a couple of times in hyderabad, do you mean that track?

The very old Amassadors and Fiats look funny to me, especially the one with flames! haha! i drove a '69 Ambassador 1800cc a couple times just to see what it was like, but in rural areas of hydra, not in the heards of cars in the city, very slow car (the fuel gauge went out, i stalled once).
Anyway, these are a really nice collection of pics, I never knew the motorsports went that far back and it still continues on strong today.
