Im not going to watch the video but its some Jeremy Clarkson video where the Z4 wins by 1 second or is only one second behind right?

Well I have to say the Z4 WAS kinda ugly when it first came out.... I didnt qiute like it but its grown on me.... I love it now... Interiors nice, it makes a nice raspy sound. And its alot more economical instead of the viper.

Viper.... Bigass chrome wheels, huge engine, deep throaty growl, side exhausts. It can grip but..... It just isnt that quick around the track as the Z4....

I think im going to have to take the Z4 for build quality, track use, and more whats the word..... Dailyusageness.... I can't remember the word.... PRACTICAL!

I've always had a thing for the Viper! I'm sure a lil' bit of modifications here and there and the Viper will almost be on par with the Z4. Besides, having an 8.3 litre V10 surely beats having an inline-6, albeit a very good one though.

Only one complain about the Viper, the interior is still pretty crappy IMO, but that's a minor flaw...

Anyone who actually believes a Viper is slower around a track than a Z4M needs to have their head examined.

Sssnake said it best in the thread we had about how dumb that video clip was.

Honestly.

That video is laughable.

The Viper's got:
More Grip, both aero and mechanical
More braking power (even over longer times)
More power, alot...a whooole lot
More "0's" in its MSRP
More plastic inside than a Toys R Us

And I love it.

How can one even begin to compare these two cars??!!? It's like comparing a scalpel to a sledge-hammer. Seriously..... And anyone who can drive worth a damn (or more probable- isn't biased) would absolutely beat the ***** out of Z4M w/ a Viper on that track.

More like a hammer and a sledge, apparently the Z4M's quite the ruffian too.

That looks like buttonwillow...

just finished watching the video. clarkson keeps sayin how the viper is the "best of america". ... personally i don't have very high opinions of the viper. "best of america" in my opinion consists of the Z06 or the S7, or maybe even the GT, but definitely not the viper. put a Z06, S7, or a GT, the race would be different. even WITH the staged "viper is understeering!!!" bit...

Not to the extent the Viper is. And I was referring to chassis dynamics, car-size, engine characteristics, and power delivery, as well.....

You seriously cant compare these cars together, that video was BS, how can a Viper be beaten by a Z4M on a track? The Viper may be not as fast around the bends, but it will just eat the Z4M on the straights, the Z4M is just no match for it.

I beg to differ - although what I would say is that perhaps the drivers skill levels are different.

Even though the Viper driver has run that track for ages, he still isn't as experienced as the Stig because the Stig was/is a racing driver and therefore knows how sharp to turn, how much to brake, how much to accelerate, etc. better. Although I would say the Z4 M has a chance at beating the Viper:

Look at it this way:

Dodge Viper:

Tonnes of power and torque (500 bhp, 525 lb ft):

+: Makes it go faster
-: Harder to control, makes it go slower in some cases.

Heavier:

-: Harder to handle, slower.

BMW Z4 M Roadster:

Lighter:

+: Easier to control, faster

Less Power + Torque (343 bhp, 262 lb ft):

+: Easier to control, faster in some cases
-: Slower in some cases

Superior M tuned handling:

+: Easier to control, quicker round the corners.

I'm willing to bet the Z4's upsides phase out its downsides. I think it could give the Viper a run for it's money until they hit the straight, and even then it could catch back up around the corners. The Z4 has M tuned handling and is meant to be quick off the mark, it is lighter and easier to control, so yes, it could beat the Viper. Power isn't everything.

^No, racing experience would be nullified by someone who's a track master at a single track.

Take Hans Stuck, great driver, toss him in an M3GTR on the 'Ring and you're guarenteed consistantly fast laps.

BUT...

Put him in a car he doesn't drive often, let's go with something like a Viper, to keep it relevant, and put him on the Nurburgring...

After a single day of practice he'd probably be just as fast as he could be around it because unlike the Stig who without honestly knowing who he is, he could be Clarkson's illegit-basta'd for all we know, would ONLY need to learn the cars' behavior's, NOT the track as well.

Learning just the car is a huuuge advantage the driver of the Viper would have.

We all know it's staged.

And while yes, power's not everything, you've got to remember, the guys who developed *this* SRT-10 got their tuning from LeMans, ALMS, and other racing series. It's not just tossed together anymore and gets its handling just from the ginormous tires.
