Ok this is it guys. The most extreme comparo yet. I know i usually have these big intros, but i'll keep it short. Everyone wants a race car, and you finally win the lottery. You buy lots of assorted things, super cars, houses, yachts. Then one day you get a letter stating "dear _______, you have been choosen to compete in the exclusive cross country rally. A small selection of participants have been entered. You can use any car you want, as long as it isn't an open wheeled car. The race will take place on _______ and the prize is a Gulfstream 4. Hope to see you there". Ok, pretty damn far fetched, but its a fantasy, so just go with it. So, you know whats up. You need a race car. Just pick one out of the many i will offer, and PLEASE GIVE YOUR REASON FOR CHOOSING AND PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY IT IS THE SUPERIOR OPTION. Please dont just say so and so. If your going to do that, just dont post. So, happy posting.
So you go to your local race team and ask what factory race car would be the best for a race like this. They say the following.... Ok, I would like to applaud Mopar68 for doing the impossible, a 43 car comparo. Car magazines don't even undertake this massive type of test.
I will post what I think Mopar would like as an "example" response. I would go to my local race shops, and knowing that such a prestigious race would undoubtedly have foreign racers. I being an American would be compelled to represent America with an American built car... This leaves me with a few options... 1-The Saleen S7R 2-The Mosler MT900S Photon 3-The Dodge Viper competition coupe 4-The Chevrolet C5R 5-The Callaway Corvette LM 6-The Cadillac CTS-V racecar 7-The Cadillac LMP02 Considering my age and need for something reliably quick, I can further narrow it down using LeMans and Sebring as a guide. Especially since in America 3000miles is more than 24 hours. Leaving me only 4, S7R, MT900S Photon, C5R, and Cadillac LMP02... The LMP02 is "outdated", and knowing of the competition I would face, and possible weather, I would go for a closed top more competitive one... Although the Mosler does have the ability to change top speed via it's wings, it can't change gearing in the middle of a race. As such, it is out because the engine, though powerful, would not likely be able to keep up with the more powerful, Euro and Asian engines... Finally, down to the last two, the Saleen S7R, and the Corvette C5R, now both have comparable performance and reliability. The only difference is that the C5R has a much longer history of LeMans victories than the Saleen. On top of that the reliability of some Saleen engines is simply due to the lack of a racing budget compared to Chevrolets coffers. Therefore, my final choice to take across the heart of America is in my very humble opinion, the best of everything an endurance race car would need. And it has the proof in the trophies of LeMans to back that up in reality. My choice to speed across America?? The American sports car turned race car: The Chevrolet Corvette C5R : ![]()

Wow.. You are a god of posting Mopar!
The thing that really influenced my decision was that, A) Do I really need a low 0-60 time? All of the are well below 4 seconds, and how many times to I need to peel out of a stoplight or gas station? How often am I going to hit 250mph? Not very often. I would rather buy a car that has all the performance that I want, all of the handling I want, all of the comfort I want, but wont cost me a pretty penny. I have two cars in mind. One is the Dahlback Golf. The $275,000 price tag is a bit much, but I think I can afford it. Im interested in what its capable of. What can this beastly twin turbocharged 5 cylinder 900hp pump out? Now I ask myself, do I want to risk it all and gamble my chance at a 20 million dollar jet, or do I want to find a car that will insure a victory? So I decide to X out the Golf. There is only one car left. It is extremely well balanced, and very well priced. It pulls 0-60 in well under 4 seconds, has a top speed in excess of 190mph, and pulls an unheard of 1.15gs on the skidpad. Handling is one of the most important aspects of a distance race car, especially if I am going to be doing 100+mph on country roads. This car has one many races in the past, so I will be insured impressive performance. It has ruled the American streets since its debut in 1994. It is nearly a 1/10th of the price of an Audi R8. If you still cant find out what it is Im talking about here it is.... ![]() The Viper Competition Coupe.

I can tell you have put some effort into the selection. Too bad I have no idea what some of the cars you posted. You wanted Justification of my choice...so here it is For those who cant be arsed reading below the line, i Choose the Porsche GT1 or the R390 ________________________________________ _______________________________ From what i looked at, and have an idea what it is. If the rally is high up in the country where the air is thinner, I'll go for the R390 GT1 with a twin turbo V8. The reason being forced induction will have an edge over NA in this senario (eg, Pikes Peak).Another reason is I've got a petrol powered 1/8 R/C replica. Another chocie would be the Porsche GT1 The justification for this is becasue i've seen in on the road. I choose these two cars becasue they participated in Leman. As they can surivie 24hrs of continuous thrashing, i'm sure it'll survive any country rally it faces. If its not that kind of rally, I'll choose a Large capacity NA car becasue NA cars put less pressure on the engine, therefore a greater possibilty of finishing with the car intact and drive home instead of hitching a ride. I'm deciding between the Dodge Viper competition coupe, The ferrari 575 GTC, M3 GTR and the Lamborghini Diablo GTR I'll post if i have a definite answer. |

Speed 12.
A. ITS A ROAD CAR (just) B. Some of the others are gonna be a world of f**king touchyness not built for cruising and although niether is the TVR is the closest thing to C. Its fu*king fast, some of the others would be better for the job, but 7 liter V12 guys. Power is what it will come down to with this much difference cause seriously mopar, you just named a whole lotta race with about mil price difference. I'd maaaaayyyyybe take an Ultima Can-Am but you didnt put it up mopar

I have to go American. And I love Mopars would have to represent them so I'd go with the Viper Competition Coupe. All the money saved by buying it could towards gas and any repairs needed. It has some nice performance numbers and good gas milage compared to some of the others. Alo, I've always wanted a Viper.

hmm, what happened to me and Ghalos's old posts? Oh well, i'll just retype what i said:
I need to make this topic more detailed and to the point. This just look like i put a bunch of cars together. Right now it's all just kind of random, so let me straighten things out. The US government has just finished a brand new, state of the art ultra highway that borders the edge of the US. To debut it, they decided to have an enormous and ultra exlusive race the whole length of the highway. You start off in the tip of Maine and head off traveling south towards NYC. From there you turn west and head pretty much straight all the way to seattle washington. From there you head south agian to Los angles and then east through texas to florida. From there you follw up the coast all the way back top the top of maine. I'm estimating a 10,000 mile trip. The rules and guidelines are simple. Rules 1. The driver must drive by himself without the aid of electronic or human navigation. All the contestants will have is a map issued to them at the start. 2. The Driver must where a inspected and approved race helmet when the car is in motion. No exceptions. Driving suits and such are not required, but strongly recommended. 3. Drivers are not allowed to sleep in fixed housing. Their shelter is whatever they carry with them in the car. 4. Music is the only distraction allowed while driving. Cellphones and visual distractions are prohibited. Any driver who breaks this rule will be out of the race, no exceptions. 5. There are no communications devices. All drivers will be issued an emergancy cell phone which they must use in emergancies only. If they are used for any use other than an emergancy, the driver will have a 5 hour time penalty. 6. All supplies for the day must be carried by the driver in the car. The next days supplies will be issued the night before. Open top LM racers must find a way to carry these supplies or else they will not be able to compete. Guidlines There is a pit stop every 100-400 miles, depending on terrain. Each car will be refueled and will have a fresh pair of tires at every one of these pit stops. All other maintinence that any car needs will be performed at these stops. Medical units are standing by at everyone of these stops. Helicopter units are also on hand. This event is not time limited. Whomever finishes first wins. So, it's a tough choice. You have the ultra fast, ultra nimble LM cars like the R8 or LMP02. the problem is you need to carry the supplies (food, tent, water, etc.) and lots of fuel. You need something with a strong engine cause you only get one engine during the whole race. You need power and torque to get up through the mountians, but good aerodynamics and stability at high speeds. You must make a sacrifice: comfort or high speed? Remember to give this plenty of thought. This is not only a test of driver and car endurance, but a test to see if the driver can keep his sanity during this 10k mile trip. Choose your racer annnnnnd what your supplies would be. TAKE YOUR TIME!!!! (P.S. i apologize to the people who choose already)

Yeah, I don't know what happened, buuuuuut...
What I'd do is take my C5R and put road worthy tires, specially made of course, and make sure they gave a liiiittle more comfort. I'd give the suspension more travel and have a button that simply said, "RACE" and it'd reset the suspension back to fully race prep. I would also include where the passenger seat would be, a cooler/microwave combo so I could keep beverages and food in there. Behind the seats would be a full army-esque tent with sleeping supplies and showering supplies. I'll find a waterfall, haahaha... I'd have my racing seat re padded with alot more cushioning so it'd be bearable, and FINALLY, an iPod integrated into my helmet with integrated headphones...Lots of beats, lots of eats, gorgeous scenery all at 190 mph + in a Corvette C5R...I don't CARE if I win, that's the ULTIMATE ROADTRIP! :P Food list: Microwavable foods...10,000 miles in a race car, hmmmm...I'll add vomit bags later. 1-Twizzlers, easy to eat without hands. 2-Hungry Man dinners for the nights 3-Those 12 packs of little cereals for the morning with milk of course. 4-And of course no racer would compete without a steady supply of iced coffee, preferably of the "Jamaican Me Crazy" bean. Or just some Iced mocha's... 5-FINALLY! A big amount of water and sandwhiches...god I'm going to be fat after this race...

Okay i have decided....
Mazda 787B I chose this car because it has good power and torque, also it has an aerodynamic body I would have a storage compartment built at the front of the car to store food Like ghalos, i would have an iPod built into my helmet As for sleeping i would get a reclining bucket seat installed and sleep in the car (if its allowed, if not i would just bring a little tent and sleep in that) |
