The supra got axed back in 2002 (import to US stopped way back in 1998) and just last year the Celica and the MR2 have been cut as well!
So basically Toyota's sportscar segment is dead as of now. There are fleeting rumors of a new MR2 and the recent Supra revival craze has been watered-down by numerous reports of it being entirely false. Of course I think it's probable that the Supra will come back but can it be competitive against its domestice counterparts that will be offering massive power for dirt cheap prices? Aside from all that, it will certainly be exciting to see how their LF-A supercar turns out. |

I think they may be trying to give Lexus all the sporty models and leave the "boring" models with the boring brand name.
Such as the IS, GS, SC and LS type models. But no low down end like Celica or an almost track car like the MR2.

as far as i know Toyota is regrouping their sports cars supra & MR2 will be back as Toyota.LF is a lexus idea of a supercar product and IS500 is something to give the M5 a run for its money.

Well, toyota isnt a very intresting group of chaps, except for economy cars for now. I have complete faith in toyota that they will come back to the sportscar market. Toyota will need a sports car... At least something... For now just praise the IS350

Although Toyota has dropped some models lately, they have been coming out with some impressive new models lately. And as for the IS500, it's most likely going to be hella fast, considering the outcome of the IS350...

Toyota is trying to be cool like Honda and drop anything remotely sporty like a rock. Also, it may have something to do with their domestic market. There's probably not a lot of call for sports cars if you're living in permanent gridlock.
That and in US markets, there's probably not a ton of demand either. If you want to go fast, there are plenty of cheap and quick domestics (Mustang/Camaro/SRT4's). They have their flaws, but in a straight line it's just not a race. And don't get me started on the hard-on everyone seems to have for SUV's right now. |

hmmmm.....
IS500, very interesting concept never seen it until Fx55 pointed that out. At first glance I was like "damn, it could be an M5 eater!" but it does seem to be a little underpowered than the M5. However, I don't think it's target is the M3. I think the IS500 may be a Japanese M5 offered at around the price of an M3...yeah? And second, I've never got my panties up in a bunch over the tC. It looks pretty good but it just doesn't convey as much of a sportiness as the Celica, and not to mention the Celica has an actually established motorsport heritage behind it as well. But if anyone has any more info on that IS500 please share! I am in the firm belief that Toyota is gunning for a piece of the M5 market. Quote:
